re fuel pump

Walbro 225 I think.it depends what power your expecting to run. I think that would do.

Now lets wait for tuffty to tell me im completely wrong and that I shud go back to the vw forums!

Depends on what you are planning to do and your level of tune... a std S3 pump is a 4bar one and perfectly capable of supplying fuel to low 300's hp wise... most are tired nowadays though so if you think its tired then swap that for a new one in the first instance... if going for BT power then fit an inline pump like a DA 31 (details in my build thread)

<tuffty/>

Wot about a gss340? Would that fit? Just goin for under 300 power on k04. Had it on rollers and suggests tired pump, running really lean.

I'm hoping mine will be ok for 300ish on 550cc injectors. It's a brand new VW part in tank but I have a feeling my next purchase may be an inline.

Does it make much difference to the strain on the OE pump with larger injectors or is that governed by the FPR? I'm guessing that the pump will be a lot happy with a 3bar FPR and 550 injectors then my current setup of 4 bar FPR and stock injectors working their nuts off!?

Westy how much is a new fuel pump for an s3?I don't want to buy a second hand one that could be tired

He said it was boosting at 1bar but just running really lean. I don't really know. Is there something I can ask him to help diagnose it?

Logs would be useful as would simply fitting a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and seeing what the actual pressure is :)

He did fit the fuel gauge to the fpr. That's how he noticed it. Is there anything else it could be? He said either pump or crimped fuel lines

Unlikely... they should make just under 3bar on idle/vacuum rising with boost so you should see 4bar fuel pressure... assuming the gauge has bee fitted to the feed and not the return of course :)

<tuffty/>

He fit it to the vacuum hose goin to the intake manifold. So would that read it correct?

Oops, I don't really know mate. I just seen a hose comin off fpr a tpieced t gauge. I'll ask him to test fuel pressure n let u no

That's what I would have thought.tuffty this is all new to me but supposed I did want to test my fuel pressure what's the best way to go about it?

Bill uses a bit of kit like this...
B000R5IASC.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

OTC 5630 Fuel Pressure Test Kit : OTC

Have to plumb it in with a t-piece so it can read pressure... then you would use a dyno to load up the engine to see what the pressure is :)

Bit too dangerous to do on road logging...

Thanks tuffty Mr VAG guru.

Id advise just taking the plunge and getting a new one mate,you never know If the used one you buy is knackered

hmmm, fair enough - i've replaced so much on the car - gonna be brand new when i'm done with it lol :)
anyone got a part number?

been to the garage this morning, he told me he never plumbed anything to read the fuel pressure, hes just goin off the dyno, af ratio. he said if its running lean, becasue not enough is comin thru it could only be the fuel pump or regulator. the new pump has come today anyway so hes fitting it. ill let you know the results later today after dyno runs and map

Has anyone fitted the Walbro 400LPH intank pump?
LINK

tbh I wouldn't bother 'upgrading' the intank... if you need more fuel than a std intank and an inline DA 31 can provide then you are better off fitting a swirl pot and might have to go up a size on the fuel lines...

Bill runs dual 044's on his Ibiza...

i picked up a wss340 for half the price of the standard s3 one, decided to go that way, mechanic said would be easy to make fit. that way if i wanted to go bigger turbo at some point would make more sense just to get one to start with

Had pump replaced, solid fuel pressure now to have it put in rollers and find out ecu is corrupted. Hopefully this will solve the issues

you have not ever checked your fuel pressure so how can you say this?
lean as logged from dyno but what about what cars logged itself??? Stock map is 0.953lambda under wot.. Is this what his dyno also saw? If so, its what a std map will do up to 920c egt's where it will fuel dump
