official new s3

40mpg!! No chance! The previous stats were optimistic but thats way beyond that!

I'm not that impressed by the exterior shots which comes as a bit of a disappointment :(

5.4 0-60 on the s-tronic is only 0.1 faster than 8p s-tronic performance also.

Got to say, the 5 door is more appealing to me in the 8v guise. Plan for me at present is a wait for an 8v RS3 if that ever materialises...

its got a bit of an A1 look inside and out, and im not a real fan of the A1 sorry,

just feel audi are making the whole range look like each other.

Is it just me or does it look like an S-Line but with a little more silver? :/

I'd imagine they've just tweaked the boost to give a bit more poke and bring it up closer to the 300bhp benchmark for most of the latest gen hyper-hatches. 272bhp was always a poor show, before the advent of the RS3 it was their flagship, and of late it's felt like it's been falling behind in terms of inner tech (although it's still one of the best overall quality items out there).

Is it me or do those wheels look about 15" on that car?!?!?!

As has been said, pretty much S-Line badges off, S3 badges on, add a couple of tailpipes - bosh, done!

"As with the previous S3, the new model receives a rather conservative appearance that eschews some of the more flamboyant touches of rival hot hatchbacks for a more function led approach."

lol should this not read
"As with keeping costs down we have kept the boring A3 look which we think is okay"

Is it just me, or do thise quilted seats look a bit TOWIE ??

They remind me of the ones found in the Leon Cupra:

Personally, I think I'd like to have sex with them.

Not a huge fan but sure it will grow. I went to the launch night last night @ Bristol Audi and had a look around the new A3 but again I wasn't in love with the style at all. Was worth going for the food and the champers but the car was a little disappointing, so glad I went for my black edition and didn't wait for it. Having said that I am sure it will grow as I see more and the different models come out etc.

The new A3 does look very much like the A1 on the outside and even more so on the inside, may have to jump over to the A5 when my car is due a change.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,
Si

I can say that I will not be buying one of these!
See what the saloon brings.
Looks like it will be a Golf R or M3 for me when the time comes to change.

I think 40 mpg is possible, I often get over 30mpg now, and had 35mpg in the past on a stage one.
Also the 0-60 has been quoted else where at 5.1 for S-tronic, that again is more than 0.1 sec up, I find it most frustrating they upping the power so much, makes it a mockery in my books for previous versions of that engine.
Though it is good to see so many changes all round in the upgrade

I doubt very much I will be buying another S3, may look at Merc A45 AMG, though not sure I want another 2 litre, prefer something with more bottom end, so may see if they ever do produce the A3 saloon with the 2.5 RS3 Engine.

I'm actually quite excited about the new S3, as I've been waiting for it for some time. I will probably have to keep on waiting as the car I want - a Sportback with S-Tronic - is probably 6 months away from the order book opening.

Minor as it sounds, the thing that most puts me off at this stage is the quad exhausts. These look a bit OTT on a compact car of any kind IMO; the Golf R has this style just right.

The better news is that the fundamentals of the S3 are still right for my needs. I want it to be discreet without being anonymous, easy to drive everyday, be easy to park on our tightly packed street, practical and capable of doing reasonable MPG and being comfortable when I'm on business miles.

The 0-60 time tells me very little about the performance capabilities of the next S3; the claimed lower weight and higher power will be a lot more relevant on the road and I hope that has such a capable engine as that of the 8P S3
