OK, anyone following my posts will know that my car decided to relieve itself of all it's washer fluid after the MOT man tested them during the MOT.

My first attempt at repairing this was to fill the washefluid bottle to the max and operate the washwipe continuously with the headlights on. The washwipe part works perfectly, but after a few seconds, I can hear a second chirp, which is suppose to be the headlamp washers, but they do not pop up, so the headlamp washers don't work! I checked the fuse(fuse 33), and it's fine, and the chirp suggests it's suppose to work?

Anyways, how do the headlamp washers work in principle? Does it take the water pressure from the same motor as the washwipe, and some kind of valve flick the pressure towards the bumper jets, or is there a separate motor?

Secondly, the washwipe motor itself. I traced the water leak to the motor, it has somehow dislodged itself upwards, so I just pushed it back down and no more leaks! I gave the motor a firm tug, and it popped out easily again, is that suppose to happen? It doesn't seem to lock or clip in, it just pushes downwards, and seems to seal itself?

Hi

I just went out to have a look at mine washer bottle in the dark. First of all ... the washer bottle looks really cool in the dark if you illuminate it with a torch!

The pump which is attached to my head light washer tube only appears to have one water pipe. So I assume the headlight washers have their own independent pump?!

I don't know when it kicks in but it has to get the water in the headlight washer system to a certain pressure before the alien things pop out of the bumper under the water pressure. I don't know what logic is used when you're washing the windscreen to initiate the headlight washer pump i.e. time delay etc.

When you take the bumper off there is disconnection point in the tube to allow you to easily disconnect the tube and remove the bumper.

I had my washer bottle empty itself once, when I took the bumper off to investigate I found the little black plastic clip that holds that connector together had come off.

Drop the bumper off - it's a quick job - and have a look.

OK, so I took my bumper off yesterday to inspect the hoses, all nice and tight, no leaks whatsoever, took the opportunity to fit some Samco boost hoses too!

The motor that had popped out of it's casing, that I mentioned in the first post was the headlamp washer motor! It seems to be operating, but not doing anything! I can pull it right out, and it would lose all of it's washer fluid! Anyone knows how much a replacement is?

Anyone knows how much a replacement is?

Not sure on exact cost maybe ~£40

Part numbers shown in my version of ETKA are 3B7955681 also shows use of 1J0973722A which I think is an electrical connector.

Slightly different note, what size is the water line that feeds the washers? Mines split open and needs replacing before my mot next month.

Yeah jojo, when i got ran into the hose got sliced open, i want to buy a new t piece and some hose todo it but dont want to have to keep taking the bumper off, you sure its 10mm? looks bigger, maybe 15mm?

Yeah, I'd go with 15mm to be honest, just take your bumper off a measure! lol

I just couldnt be ***** doing it twice :( haha.

Nar, literally takes me 2 mins, its been off that many times i can do it with just a torx allen key and a flat headed knife. I'm just been lazing not wanting to take it off, just wanted to buy all the bits and do it but ill just pop it off, measure up then go buy them.

The EKTA part for the hose is 1J0 955 964 F (Description:S10X3)

Can't be that expensive can it?

Haha, come on its audi, it'll be a leg and arm a meter lol. Does it state bore diameter?

OK, managed to pull the whole motor out for the head lamp washer, there seems to be something missing on the end of it! Does anyone have a pic of the motor, or a blow up diagram of it?

No one has any idea what goes on the end of the washwipe motor?

There should be a black rubber grommit that sits into the washer bottle, then the pump pushes into the gromit. Mine had fallen inside the washer bottle.
I removed the headlight pump and used a hose in the top of the washer bottle to push the grommit to the opening, then a pair of needle nose plieres to pull it out. Was fiddly and took ages

Have you done a google images search for the part number 3B7955681? - there are lots of picture of the pump.

Liam

You clever sod, never thought of that! Cheers!

Yes, I realised it's a bumper and headlamp out job, hence all the questions. It seems mine has split apart, the motor just pulls out, and there's nothing on the end of it! I will attempt your procedure over the weekend. Cheers.

sorry to jump in but iv never seen mine work, when are they supposed to opperate? after a few Seconds, or after so many pulls of the wiper arm..?

Headlight must be on, main beam, not side lights. Then operate the washwipe continuously and whilst your screen is getting cleaned, there's a 2 second delay, and you will hear another electric motor go off, and that will be your headlamp washer jets.

Ok my turn here lol. Took the bumper off today to fix the broken headlight washer pipe, its 10mm for future refference.

Anyway, fixed the line up and then the ****** things wont work, can here it trying to work like yours jojo but no water getting pumped, took the bump out and the thing looks dead, i could spin the motor by hand but wasnt freely moving, also it was rusted up to hell, cleaned and wd40 it all up and still nothing, looks like my pumps dead, the part number on my pump is 1j0955681 which im guessing is the same as yours jojo? My question is can i use the revised part feom the part number above 3B7955681 as these pumps are on ebay for less than £20 delivered and their new?
