Anyone eagerly awaiting it's launch ?
Is it going to be a rehash or a new screen/battery life.

Yarp!

ClioSport has a specific apple section. Hundreds of pages of discussion!

I reckon new screen and feel.

Still using a 4, so looking forward to a 5. Better camera and Siri will be nice. Early prototypes I've seen on Apple Insider show a similar case but larger screen area.

Having held and used a Galaxy S3, the iphone5 better be damned good for the wait!

To be honest, the iphone4 is adequate for my needs, I wouldn't really make use of Siri, but a bigger screen and lighter device would be welcome additions!

Why is everyone so dissapointed by the 4s? The entire of the internals were reengineered and reworked. It's a superb product from apple. It lacked a new case and that was it. If everyone got a new case but same internals the hype would be immense! Silly really I think?
However, I am likely to sell my 4s and buy a 5, just because I can get it from Malaysia so no tax ;-)
personally, new design, better Siri comparability and overall sleekness. Apple usually blow the competition away with innovative design and overall functionality, this year, will probably be no different as before Jobs passed away he hadn't released all of his plans, so any new product over the next 5 years will have a Jobs influence I believe

Love my 4s, had a 4 for 2 years and loved that too. I will probably get a 5 when I can upgrade. Won't go and buy it though

I got sent this the other day from an android user...

My gold plated butt-plug business is being sued by Apple.

Apparently they have a patent for overpriced crap for *********.

I've had my 4 for coming up 2 years now and I'm still loving it. I'll be moving onto a SIM only deal next month when my contract runs out and depending on what the 5's like, I'll upgrade to that.

I'm certainly hoping for a better battery life.. ever since I downloaded New Star Soccer, my battery's pretty much depleted by lunch :)

I'm looking forward to the 5, I've been on a SIM only contract for months now as didn't want to upgrade my 4 to a 4s. The 5 better be good or I'll be heading over for a Galaxy 3S

As above really chaps, I've seen some prototypes on the web but you can never really go by them as there were loads about the 4s that never evolved. Runour is though that the charging dock will be smaller, bigger speakers, headphone jack at the bottom of the phone and larger screen. Been running ios 6 for a couple of months now and Siri (although I don't use it much) is 100x better. Passbook for me will never be used but better Facebook integration and a slightly revised layout of music screen and App Store is a nice little tweek. Then you have the deleted YouTube app on your home screen and the fact that google maps have gone and been replaced with.......wait for it........"maps" loads better though when it becomes fully live.
As you can prob tell I really can't wait for the "new iPhone" to arrive!!! 😄

Out of interest how did you get iOS 6? Apple have a conference tomorrow about the iPhone, or so the logo would suggest, the number "12" for 12th September and it creates a shadow of a "5".
Have listed my phone on ebay and also done a mazuma deal, £270 for my 4s, will just go buy a 5 sim free, no contract then :p Lets wait and see what the Apple fairy brings tomorrow!! ;-)

It will be awesome...I hope.
The rumours are rife about whats different but nowt concrete.

You can download iOS 6 on some of the torrent sites. I will wait on a jailbreak for iOS 6 before I upgrade my iPhone I like to customise my iPhone with different icons using winterboard and use sbsettings for quick access to my settings. Just wish apple would incorporate these functions in a iOS firmware but as they are slowly taking more ideas from the jailbreak community hopefully it will not be long before the do this then I will have no need to jailbreak my phone.

The 4s was a great phone, just a shame about no updated looks. I think the 5 will deliver stunning looks! Rumurs are everywhere but lets wait and see!

I'm not a fan of jail breaking, things seem to work better when left oem with my hands!!

I registered my phone with a developers account so got to trial it earlier. Seems it turned out to be as expected with the larger screen etc. that's a good price for the phone. Think my 4s will be going down that route too!!

Well I hope iOS6 is good because the iPhone 5 doesn't seem particularly impressive. I don't think il be looking to swap early

Because I'm using a 4 I think the upgrade will feel more significant than coming from 4S.

I find web browsing on the 4 very slow (new wireless tech and A6 chip should cure this), the camera can be slow / unresponsive / struggles in low light (so new 8MP unit will be an improvement). Also as with many things Apple, the rate of software development seems to make older units creak quite a bit after a few updates, so it will be nice to have a bit of instantaneous pace back in the OS. The sRGB quality screen will be a bonus, but I'm not passionate about the new power port (the dock converters are £25 EACH!), or the bottom mounted h/p socket.

At the end of the day it's just a phone, people always sound disappointed that it's not changed the face of the world with each iteration, but it's an incremental year on year upgrade. The invention of the iPhone was the big ticket departure away from clanky mobile OS's and shaky applications, now with each generation they polish the ****, so I think unless there is a huge step change in technologies (e.g. the 5 day battery for smart phones / full wallet replacement etc.) then I don't expect to see that much change. I'm intrigued as to what people expect; it's a phone, a music player, a camera, a games console, an organiser, a business tool, a contacts manager, a picture gallery.....what do you want it to do, cure cancer and feed the needy???.

I think it's quite a polished product against many competitors (depending on what you want from a phone / brand) so within the limits of today's technology Apple probably know yearly updates are just a way of boosting sales rather than delivering (god I hate this word....) 'killer' breakthroughs. I think if you're in a 2 year upgrade cycle then it's not a bad upgrade, those who are always after the next best thing are always going to feel a shade of disappointment given the products price bracket.

Me too in the market for this so will get one,it ticks the boxes for me.

I wasnt expecting much. Just saying its not worth the hassle of changing from the 4s without an upgrade. But like you say, will be a decent upgrade from a 4 in terms of speed.

My favourite things from when I changed from a 4 to a 4s was that it no longer interferred with my iPod dock sound system, think it was because they changed the signal type? And even after 2 years of being battered, the 4 still was worth 250 on mazuma...

Just ordered mine this morning :)

Same as said above, i'm upgrading from a 4 because I think there are enough changes to justify it for me, if i'd already had a 4S i'd not have bothered.

I agree I have the 4s and it's not a big jump, thought about buying one and selling mine but been told you cant just swap the sim card as the 5 is a lot smaller. But can't wait for the iOS 6 that will be a massive change to all iPhones .

You need a nano sim card. Your supplier should supply this FOC. I'm selling my 4s now and walking into apple ( ok pushing and shoving into apple) on Friday morning to pick up my iPhone 5. IMO its worth it A6 processor with LTE and other perks. But each to their own at the end of the day. Next year I will go sim only tariff which will save roughly £200 a year compared to a tariff with phone.

Trouble is I know orange will not send out a nano sim until Friday so your phone will be useless until you get it. Possibly sat or Monday :0/

Vodafone sent mine out today after a short phone call and should hopefully have it tomorrow

I keep on missing there calls, not sure whether to go for the networks offering 4G though ?
Will only be in certain areas first though.

After lots of reading of reviews/features/etc I'm jumping the Apple ship after two years of sailing.
I've got an iPhone4 and I just can't see any "day-to-day" software improvements that the new iPhone (and IOS 6) is going to offer me.
Built in Sat-nav... who cares, there's a million apps that offer this already.
Facetime over 3G.... who cares, Tango already does this.
Passbook... who cares, no one will use it after the novelty wears off.
Etc etc... who cares, no one cares.

Samsung Galaxy S3*.... here I come.

*with its eye recognition so the phone doesn't go into sleep while reading stuff, its ability to allow you to text/email at the same time as watching videos, its smart dial feature, removable battery, memory card slot giving almost a 100gb of storage, smart alerts and freedom from the itunes stranglehold, to name but a few "day to day" features.

I am locked into Vodafone for another year. If I could I'd go sim only with a 4g network and Vodafone for one month and cancel the one that was worst. Even if 6 months later you wanted to change over you only need to give 30 days notice. Bit more hassle but means your on best network possible. 4g I don't think will be properly useable until 2014

Its all about preferance, I hate any other OS because it just doesn't work for me. The eye recognition seems cool but doesn't wanna make me get a Samsung.

On its own, me neither. But add it to all of the other features I listed (and haven't listed) and I'm won over.

Makes iOS seem a bit lame.

I've owned a Samsung branded:

Smartphone (Tocco Lite): possibly the worst phone I've ever owned for more reasons than I can bother to type, sold it after two months to Envirofone and reverted back to an old handset (Nokia N95) for duration of contract
DVD recorder (???): Intermittent issue with recording off hard disc onto DVD, user interface was awful, general quality poor, replaced with Sony
Camera (WB850F - Wife's): New 21x zoom model with Facebook integration and GPS. Returned inside 2 weeks, replaced with Panasonic as panorama was glitchy, Facebook posts intermittent, GPS data for 1 in maybe 4 shots, unacceptable digital noise levels

I've never owned a Samsung product that leaves me with any real sense that it's a properly finished product. I might have just been unlucky, but as far as me buying Samsung again in the foreseeable future; unlikely. Bleeding edge technologies are usually either gimmicks and don't work well in early guises, so as long as a phone does what it needs to do and does it consistently I don't have much more need from it than what it already offers! Eye recognition; I've been using smartphones for 10 years + and never had it switch off on me whilst I've been reading / using it, so to me it's just something else that uses up the precious little resources the miniaturized phone has. The A6 chip in the iPhone 5 has just been benchmarked for speed and has beaten every other handset on the market (this week), so in my eyes if solid foundations are there the ownership experience should be good. OK, so it's a basic measure, but when you look at the margins of difference...

I haven't owned any of the top-end Samsung phones either, or Android false stop, but I've got to a point with Apple where I'm willing to give anything else a go.

My main iOS/iPhone gripes are:

1) You can't set notifications per email account. Its one setting for all.
2) Home button losing its sensitivity and needing re-calibrating. Constantly. On all handsets that I've come across, and I've come across loads.
3) Being stuck with the amount of storage the phone comes with. Non expandable.
4) iTunes and syncing of media... i.e. lack of drag and drop/mass storage ability.
5) No "true" multi-tasking.... i.e. get a message and you have to stop everything else (bar music) to deal with it.
6) Battery built into the handset so no option of carrying a spare battery if ever needed.
7) No flash player.

Most of what I don't like like about iOS/Apple is basic stuff that can usually be found on the most basic of devices.

To be fair, the screen doesn't usually switch off, but it does dim, almost all of the time. It only requires a tap of the screen to get full brightness again, but it still irritates me, especially in the middle of a game!

I'll be receiving my Galaxy S3 later this week and who knows, after our bonding/honeymoon period it might irritate me too. But I'm going to give Samsung/Android a try, because like America and giving oral sex, its something you should experience at least once in your life.

I think you're right with many of your gripes, the one about flash being a particular PITA as more sites become more animated.

I always tend to max out the Gb on whatever I buy due to lack of upgrade option, so it's expensive but less likely to leave me short. I have a battery case for the battery issue, but it's not ideal. As we have iTunes on Mac's at home I've never really needed drag and drop as everything I need is in one place and auto updates with iCloud.

I think where I feel let down by Apple is their controlling nature of what you can and can't do (e.g. let me get rid of Newsstand if I want to!), and the fact they almost force your hand to upgrade every 2 years as older kit just seems to grind to a halt (and when it costs decent money it should last). I have a mint 1st gen iPod Touch 16Gb, it hangs just playing music or internet radio! How hard can it be. Plenty of free storage, but sweet FA RAM I guess. Basically needs binning because its software can't cope; great from an Apple business model perspective, crap for environment!

...and it not only grinds to a halt because of old/insufficient hardware spec, but in a lot of cases (if you have an early iPod Touch, for example) Apple won't even let you install latest OS's, which in turn means that you can't download/install current or even year old apps from the App Store.

Anyway, I'll stop Apple bashing now, and no doubt I'll be back under their spell, using an iPhone 10 in a few years time.

Well i will just add to this thread and tell you all, i will be getting the new iphone 5 on Monday. I so cant wait. Bit disappointed to read that the new ios 6 software is not going to be available for my ipad though. :) x

Ok, so I've just upgraded my iPhone4 from ios5 to ios6 and it's nice to see I'm on par with Android 2.1 now.

But seriously, I'm surprised Apple released ios6 before the iPhone5 as I think it will put off quite a few iPhone4/4S users from upgrading to a 5. Would've made more sense commercially to make it exclusive to iPhone5 users for a while.
I'm glad I've seen it though as the added features this update gives over ios5 has cemented my choice of not going for this new iPhone.

In all fairness though I guess if I was coming from an iPhone 3GS or a "lesser brand" phone then I'd love the new ios and iPhone5.
