I can't get my mirrors to fold when i am moving, Audi say they shouldn't but the instructions talk about folding whilst driving down narrows lanes which is exactly what I want to do, anyone help?

Also can they be programed to fold on the key?

Thanks

Ant

There's a speed-based lock... not entirely sure what speed it stops them working though? I imagine the idea being if it's narrow enough to warrant folding in your mirrors you shouldn't be going that fast anyway...

I think it also disables them folding out after you get past a certain speed too, (maybe to save damaging the motors at high speed?), so I'd guess those speeds would be the same. I've been told that the folding mirrors aren't controlled by the VCS as I was wanting to get them to fold with the remote, however it requires separate wiring and timing relays. But the feed to the switch must be disabled (or something similar) once you reach the 'magic' speed.

I'm sure someone on here will know the details of this...

Although you are correct that there is a speed at which point they are disabled, the feed to the switch doesnt need to be disabled, thats just bad design of circuit,

Apologies for the mistake. If the mirrors were controlled as part of the VAGCOM configuration then I would expect it to be a coded signal which just isn't sent after reaching a certain speed, however as they are independant from the VCDS (hard-wired), I guessed at the feed to the switch being disabled after a certain speed is reached.

Do you know how are they disabled?

Ahh sorry misunderstood your comment, I thought you meant to have the folding on lock/unlock you had to disconnect the switch system, but yes I think it basically disables the signal actually meaning anything & thus ignores until such time your speed is at what allows them to function.

So can I disable it allowing me to fold the mirrors on the move like the book says I should be able to? I cannot fold or unfold my mirrors unles stationary and even then it does not alway work, sometimes I have to take key out and put back in.

If it's disabled via speed, which has to be detected via the VAGCOM system, theoretically you could program out that bit of code and stop the car disabling the wing mirror control at speed. Don't know of anyone who has done it though, you would probably need to consult someone experienced with VAGCOM and see if you can get a definitive answer. But I'm not sure why you'd want to?

Activating them via remote is possible, but it's not possible through VAGCOM, it requires extra wiring and timing relays. There are some guides but I don't have the links anymore as I decided it was too much hastle.

Mine don't work 100% of the time, but I just turn the knob back to the 'folded' position, then back to the 'open' position and it has never taken more than 2 attempts. I imagine the switch gets worn over time. Perhaps a new part from Audi... but it may not come on it's own, it might be built into the door card. Give them a ring and try your luck...

I was so disappointed when I bought my car 5 years ago and had spent something like £120 for folding mirrors that won't fold whilst trying to avoid white van man coming at you down a narrow lane. They do fold when stationary - but I could do that myself!

If anyone can shed any light on what can be done with VCDS to override the speed signal, or indeed whatever else is Audi's ilogical barrier, then please enlighten us.

Having just got VCDS myself I'm keen to try it out on some coding, and this is something I think is worth getting out of my auto scan comfort zone with.

Bump! Has anyone found a way for doing this via VCDS yet??

VCDS wont do it, but I could wire in a circuit/switch/buttons that would, but would take a little while as potentially needs wiring to each door.

Hi AJM. I,m not sure how to sort the mirrors folding whilst on the move but as the control from your fob. If you keep your finger on the lock button continuously it will do two things. 1 it should close all open windows 2 your wing mirrors should fold up..If you keep your finger on the unlock button you should be able to open all four windows..This is how it works on the missus Seat Leon which has folding mirrors and as for the windows it works on my A4..Hope this helps you out..

Mate thats not how it works on the B6/7, it doesnt have the folding options.

Hi NHN. I, m not sure about the folding mirrors on the A4 but as for the windows opening and closing using the key fob it defo. works on my car..From my recolection an Audi techie in my local dealers programmed it for me?

My post was concerning the folding mirrors, it doesnt act in this manner.

Yes the fob can be programmed to open/close, but I always advise clients we disable open as people sit on fobs & thus come out in morning or from lunch etc with car open or things missing.

ok..I see what you mean about accidently opening the windows could be a problem:icon_thumright:

My mirrors fold on the move, providing I'm going under about 10mph :search:
