Just had Revo Stage 1 Remap on my S3

I did it, today I went to Awesome GTI here in Manchester & had the DV changed. I also had the S3 put on the rolling road which gave me a bit of a shock....

Revo say stage 1 on the S3 (8P) should take you to 300 BHP. I also have a Neuspeed CAI & Milltek cat back non-res exhaust which I was told gives a few extra BHP.

The readings came back as:

Run 1

Max Power = 278.32
Max Clutch Torque = 319.35

Run 2

Max Power = 285.67
Max Clutch Torque = 313.35

The lad from the workshop handed me the print out & said "nice car, 286 BHP." I was like, huh, is that it...?!

When I queried it saying Revo publish 300 BHP (the tuner who did the work on mine said he estimated mine to be at approx 310 BHP with the exhaust & CAI) they said that the figures they publish are fly wheel figures and not power at the wheels.

Is this right? I was expecting to get a figure of at least 300 BHP at the wheels & feel a bit cheated now :(

Don't forget two things....

Firstly, the difference between the best quoted figure, and what you obtained,is only 7% at most, and is within the sort of variations you get for rolling roads, fuelling, ambient temps etc.

Secondly, after a remap, the ECU will adapt over a few days.

Either way,not bad results at all,and the difference between 290bhp and 300bhp at 7000rpm is something that most people simply will neither notice, nor get a road long enough to do so on.

On the turbo housing for the A3, on the front RHS of engine S3.

Decent figures GingerPrince. Did DV make any difference to feel of car?

To be honest, no, DV didn't make any difference to the feel of the car but I wasn't expecting it too (I did wonder if the horse sneeze would be less but it isn't), I got it as a recommendation from you guys to take a bit of pressure off the turbo & add longevity.

Unless the DV is leaking or knackered,it's unlikely to make a lot of difference, but a good aftermarket one such as the Forge,or the new OEM Rev D valve, will last longer and deliver better reliability on a remapped car.

I may have said before, but the the Forge on mine has been on the car from the first remap at 10 000 miles, from Stg 1 through to Stg4.

you guys do know the DV on the tfsi is a diaphram type dump valve and that 'pigeon coo' sound as i like to describe it is normal of these types of valves running high boost trying to dump through such a small system.
either way, dont worry.

edit: quite a good example

Alright Karl, i believe the new uprated oem rev d valve doesn't have a diaphram, Therefore solves the possible leak/split issues in the old diaphram dv.

taking my engine for example, here is it with a diaphram type valve:

and same engine with a common piston dump valve:

It will say C or G, my guess would be that it says "G" as yours is also a 2009 car, the key part is the beginning as it says 06F, the new part Rev D or whatever you want to call it will start 06H and end in D

Either way, get the new one on!
Hey jay you were right, when i took the old one off it was a 'G' type! Which looked exactly the same as the type 'C'. I inspected the orange/red diaphram and it looked pretty healthy..

Anyway i fitted the new type 'D' valve and <drum roll>..........................

The same. Same whistle and same performance. I mean it has definately got quicker now, but i guess like i said when i first drove the car after the remap it didn't seem like night and day!

So guess what..yes i need Stage 2+ :) Can someone point me to a list of what i need? Maybe a sep thread really, but i want a standard err non resonated Milltek? I dont want boy racer noises. And i believe a fuel pump and hi flow IC? TIA.

What sort of bhp am i expecting with 2+? Thanks all for your help on my issue, guess im just used to it already! Have to say 3rd gear is best, once its on song it goes, but i want alot more!

Stg2+ will be around 360-370 bhp and 360-370 lbs of torque.

You need the exhaust,CAI and HPFP.

Intercooler upgrade isn't strictly needed until Stg3 or above.

It's also worth remembering brakes and suspension if you haven't already done them.

CAI? Cold air intake? Which one do you recommend anyone? I dont want too much induction roar!

The ITG was the quietest but you can only buy that from VWRacing now so either that or possibly the Forge.

Hi Mephisto, I went straight from standard to Revo 2+ a few months back.

Here are my performance figures, before and after:

Standard output – 268 bhp/265 torque.
Revo 2+ output – 352 bhp/358 torque.

Here’s what I had fitted…

Mandatory:

Milltek Turbo Back Exhaust System (I chose the quieter resonated option with ‘Special’ tailpipes)
ITG Maxogen Cold Air Induction Kit (CAI)
Autotech Uprated High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP)

Optional:

KW Coilover Kit (I chose the most basic and cheapest option – the Variant 1 inox-line)

I still need to get an uprated Front Mounted Intercooler (FMIC) – and when I do – the car will be remapped again, and the figures should be close to 370 bhp/torque.

As Alex says – although not essential – you might want to also think about replacing the clutch and the brakes. Both of mine have held out so far, but other members have had problems with the standard clutch after going to 2+. I probably won’t replace the standard brake kit, but I will be using uprated pads when the time comes to change them.

Good luck!

As KentKid says, the stock clutch is on borrowed time at Stg2 or 2+,as the torque is simply too high for it.
The Sachs or Loba clutches are excellent for anything up to Stg2+ and maybe even Stg3,as mine coped well with 440lbs of torque, but couldnt take the next big hike,so it was replaced by a Spec Stg3+ clutch.

This is just what i was looking for hey cheers matey :)

Now sourcing Autotech Uprated High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) **** me cheapest ive seen is

325 stirlings for the kit! What looks like a few collars from the end of a valve stem and a turned shaft?! Can i get it cheaper?

I doubt you'd get it cheaper, but bear in mind you want this done properly, and you want it to work reliably.
Loba Motorsport also make an uprated HPFP,but none of these components are going to be cheap>

You're welcome pal, and believe it or not - the Autotech HPFP is actually one of the cheaper options!

It's also one of the most popular choices on here, so you know it's pretty good.

I'd also highly recommend getting the suspension done at some point. As mentioned above, I have the most basic KW Coilovers available (V1 - £900 fitted), and it's totally transformed the car's handling.

The change in handling has actually been as noticeable as the change in power from standard to Revo 2+! The car now corners very flat, and with very little roll - which inspires more confidence with regards to approaching sharp corners and roundabouts. As standard, my car would lean quite a lot when cornering hard - which would lead me to ease off a little, but now it just feels planted and very sure footed when cornering...

Good luck with it all...

Just a thought, it may already have a stage 1 map..in which case you wouldn't have noticed much of a difference.
