So, hello!!

I'm currently looking to come back to the Audi fold after a few years. I have been the owner of an S3 some years ago and an Audi A4 TDI 170 S Line (B7 i think) a few years back. I'm currently in a BMW 320d m Sport Saloon which was after a year in a 5dr R32. Now that I'm doing less miles again (about 100 miles per week commute) and the fact that I have a BIG need for an estate (a one year old Doberman!!) I'm thinking about a few options...

1) An Audi Avant A4 2.0 TDI S Line, BE or Technik
2) Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI S Line, BE or Technik
3) Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI Sline, BE or Technik

OR...

4) Audi Avant S4! (V6 not V8)

Budget wise I'm looking at around £25,000 give or take. I have also considered an S3 Sportback but my darling wife said I'd look stupid in one because I'm 41. I kind of know where she's coming from, but the S3 is a ****** good option, but hey ho, she's mostly always right.

Anyhow, I'm really struggling to find a decent S4 dedicated forum in the UK, seems to be loads of information state-side on the S4 but very little here.

I guess economy is a BIT of a decision making factor, but given that I'll only be doing 400-500 miles each month, I was thinking it would be good to get back into something that's fun to drive (had some M3's in the past too).

Any help, advice, pointers to some dedicated forms for the S4 would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance, Michael.

Welcome to ASN Mike, it's usually an easy decision choosing which model of car based on running costs etc., but the thought of owning an S4 brings a smirk to my face! Clearly running costs doesn't seem to be an issue for yourself, but of the choices, the 3.0TDI has to be the best choice in terms of performance/value/residuals/running costs! If you want it to be quicker, just give it a remap! As much as I'd like to own an S4, the thirst of one would put me off, but these new supercharged V6 units are suppose to be quite economical for the performance!

Get a cheapy estate for the woofer and treat yourself to a nice fast toy for the commute and alone moments :icon_thumright:

I know what you mean. I feel excited at the thought but I guess in the back of my mind, economy is playing on my mind a bit

Not bad thinking. Me "Yeah darling I've thought of the perfect solution to the new car" Wife "Whats' that then?" Me "I'm going to buy two cars" D.I.V.O.R.C.E!!!!

Just because your wife is always right, doesn't mean she is always right.

You spend £25k, it needs to be for a car you will enjoy. You are 41, not 81. I would understand if you were looking to buy a suped up Nova, but you are not.

Your best bet is to get down to a dealer and test drive a few cars.

I like that plan!! Good idea. I think I know the outcome. do you think I should take the Doberman to the dealership and try her for size in the boot? I'll video it if I do!!

or better idea what about an old landrover defender for the dog car? how cool would that be!?
1986 Land Rover Defender 90 | eBay

Yeah, I do like these two car ideas. BUT...I need the main car to be a decent tourer too as we often travel to Southampton and Newcastle from West Yorkshire visiting the family. We need a main family car that can do these journeys in relative style, comfort and pace. Me, the wife, the daughter, the jack russell and the doberman plus some luggage. Now that sounds like a job for an A4 Avant S4 in my book.

I think the Defender would be somewhat of a challenge and a Defender and say a TTRS (or similar fun weekend, mid-week commuter) just wouldn't work for me really.

A great idea though.
