Hi my s3 mtm has had a few faults and slowly getting to fix them, got the misfire sorted so was able to give it a good thrashing but in doing this I was getting a rather loud clunking and a fast vibrating noise on deceleration and on right hand bends,so I got my mate to get the car up in the air and it's the exhaust that's rubbing the prop where the flexi is on the downpipe and where the prop bolts to the rear diff

Has anyone else had this problem if so what did you do to fix it ??

I had this exact problem on my last s3. It was running a lot more than standard power and everytime it came on boost it would vibrate and then eventually after a week or 2 it started doing exactly what yours is doing.

At first i though i had to remove the sub-frame and have proper goosy but in the end i went to a mate who is also a fabricator luckily... I got him to weld a hook on top of the exhaust and then he pushed the downpipe up as far as possible (without damaging or dislodging as that can easily happen) and put on an extra rubber bush with an extra weld. Not too time consuming but well worth doing as it saved me a lot of hassle and headache. If i had pictures i would show u but if your close to the herts area i can give you my mates details.

blew the whole motor after but still well worth it

I am from Scotland mate, what you mean you blew the whole motor lol ??

Have the standard exhaust rubbers / mounts perished, soft, broken etc?

No it all seems ok was just a quick look tho to be honest and if I remember correctly it was not on the standard rubber/mounts as there were some there that weren't getting used And there were no hooks to catch them either

I know the exhaust on mine is very firm as standard and it has minimal movement, so I'd be checking those, also the prop mount as it may be spinning slightly out of true perhaps? What exhaust system is fitted to your car? Did you check the prop for play?

I will look at these next time I can get the car up in air,I believe it's full milltek but I would imagine its a mtm downpipe and milltek from there back

I meant to say the engine..lol whilst on a top end run, my turbo gave way and then the engine went trying to drive it home

Oh well thats out the question.. try and find a fabricator/exhaust place..

That must have been a experience lol, were you running big power for it to go ??
yeah I will need to get it looked at

If the same as my MTM they use a downpipe that mounts to twin cats like oem and I believe QST install miltek sports cats and cat back ;)

Yeah that's that I have got Stacey, have you had any trouble with your's?

More gutted than anything.. Around 340ish bhp with 400 lb/ft not much on paper but i have to say i did undersestimate it.. I am used to crazy speeds :racer: lol and as soon as i de-accelerated from around 170+ ( i was off the clock and @ 7200rpm) loads of white smoke etc and oil trail could be seen in the rear view mirror.. not a nice feeling i must admit.

Did you manage 170mph+ on the standard gearbox? What had been done to the car to return that sort of power?

Thats a sickner mate :-(,what work had been done to get it to that power/torque

Yes standard gearbox i assume.. i never changed anything.
As fas as mods it was completely rebuit, forged rods & pistons, gt2860rs turbo, FMIC, 3 inch tubular system from turbo customised to fit milltek backbox, 660cc injectors.. loads of other mods like kw3's, r32 anti-toll bars, AP Racing big brake set up, powerflexed all around..Lightweight aluminium flywheel, bosch fuel pump, rs2 spark plugs, haldex controller I have missed out loads of other stuff

mapped by MRC tuning.. you may have heard of them based in oxford.. i must admit for an S3 it was rapid.. my mate had a 345 mtm set up and it was pretty much same power, he reckoned mine was more punchy but felt pretty identical to me.

yeah I have heard of MRC,I have a dyno print out for my mtm 328 bhp and 344ft/lbs of torque I have read that the 330bhp kit is exact same as the 345bhp kit as the difference was the 210bhp and 225bhp car but I believe the difference was only in the map but both map to the same anyway so all mtms should be the same with the conversion and mtm map

Youre s3 would have been more punchy as 400ft/lbs a lot of torque, the most I have had out of the mtm is just and only just over 155 on the clock so probly a true speed of high 140s but 170 is proper traveling lol

The 345 MTM kit is the same as the 330bhp kit that qst install, the kit is advertised by MTM at 345 but qst sell it as 330 as this is a more realistic figure that most of the cars achieve rather one or 2 exceptional ones hitting 345 ;)

My downpipe is different mate I've changed to a custom 3" downpipe with single decat but that has had more issues than your average with rubbing as has been back to the manufacturer 4 times

The joys of mods eh lol,I think my best bet is go to a custom exhaust place and see what they can do
