As above really, how can you tell the size of the bushes needed without taking of the old bush and measuring the diamaiter of it? I'm wanting to replace mine but not sure of the size.

Simon

I measured my front and it's 19mm. I've bought some Powerflex poly-bushes at 19mm to replace my old ones. Am I right in thinking I can crack off the plastic collars and directly replace the bushes with the new ones? Can I do this with the ARB still on the car or will I need to drop it out?

Get a vernier gauge & measure the size of the ARB. & as i recall, the bushes should be replaceable leaving the ARB on the car.
they are held in place by a horse shoe type clamp.

Cool. Did my ball joints today to try and get rid of a knocking noise. No luck, so next job is ARB bushes - good to hear they can come off with the ARB still on the car; had a quick look tonight but didn't have time to do them, bu they looked ok to do. So, let's see if the ARB bushes fix the noise, if not, then i'm stumped :S

Cheers guys

Knackered shocks, worn topmounts/bearing? Amongst other things that will knock.

only knocks under braking; and i've changed the top mounts, driveshaft, bearing, hub, lower arm bushes and checked discs and pads for uneven wear/warping. Only thing I haven't changed is I guess the bearing in the top mounts, shocks, drop links and ARB bushes

Surprised you didn't do the bearings when the did the topmounts, since it's all coming off! Let us know how you get on anyways.

Im hoping to get coilovers at the end of the month, got arb bushes drop links wishbones waiting to go and track rod ends also, but there is play in my ball joint which I have waiting to go on car also has a lot of play in it, I'm hoping changing all these things on my car will. Cure the knocking and stop it pulling left once it's aligned after

To be honest I didn't know there were bearings there until I took it all apart, and then I didn't really know that I would need to change them :S Not a long job to replace them though, so will likely do them after the ARB bushes

Just done my anti roll bar bushes, a little bit of an **** ache to do, ordered 19mm ones and they came the other week, but they were to small even tho I called audi gave reg number and they said 19mm, ordered some 21mm Thursday came yesterday and just fitted, seems like a knocking has gone fingers crossed,I did notice that one of my shocks sat lower in the wheel hub, so made them the same height, so prob have to get the alignment done again, I doubt it will cure my pulling left tho
