Just doing a little market research.

We get far more BMW 3 series owners coming for remaps than B8's and i'm just interested why? Initial thoughts are driver demographics? It's interesting as the Audi has more to give than the Bavarian. Obviously I would like you all to come for a remap but I'm also curious to know your reservations :)

Rick

I'm shopping presently. Likely Revo or MRC will be the tuners of choice.

It could be many things

[1] Audi people going to know and trusted Audi tuners
[2] Audi's not being so focussed on being a "drivers car"
[3] Audi now getting tough on remaps
etc
etc

For me personally it's more number three on this list... Since the ECU now has to be physically cut out of the car the warranty is more obviously voided as there is physical evidence you've been messing with it. That's the reason I'm hesitant getting a remap or DPF delete...

Ive been waiting until warranty is up (25th sept) and then looking into remap but i dont like idea of having to remove ECU

What is it that bothers you about having the ECU taken out?

It is actually the safest way to remap an ECU. If a flash over OBD goes wrong, you are in trouble. We regualty have to repair ECU's where a customer has had a remap done by a "man in a van" and been left stranded!

Thanks, Rick

its just the fact of taking it from the car,not really sure why but it puts me off a little but if the re-assurance is there (as per your reply) it might put me at ease. What sort of price do you charge for re-map?

We charge £400 including the removal and reinstall. The car has protective matting put over the wings and engine area where we are working to minimise any potential for scratches etc, we appreciate this is likely your pride and joy!

Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,

Do you do a map for the B8 2.7 tdi? if so what are the uprated specs? I am dubious because I cannot seem to find any documentation about the torque limits for the multitronic box.....

Rick - do you cater for the S4 variant? If so and it's £400, I'll need a number to get booked in with you.

I do, then wonder whether it's worth it. I tend to only keep my car for about 4-5 years, then replace them. Every car I have bought so far has had better performance than the previous one, but there will come to a point when I just have to stop...I guess when I reach a Ferarri!! If I kept the car for longer, I may seriously consider it.

I also wonder about after sales; buyer thinking the car gets ragged all the time, and I actually like the current performance of the car.

On the side; I wouldn't dream of modifying the convertible...Its a classic and that's how it will remain. The only thing noticeably different is the new stereo unit I installed when I bought it. Couldn't handle not having cd and mp3.

Info I have suggests 600Nm as the torque limit. Do you have VAGCOM/VCDS at all? It's useful to know the model number of your ECU as there are a few different types. What year is it?

Why not go for MTM piggyback ?

Very reputable company although no personal experience.....yet. I'm looking into it for the s4

Hi Rick,No I dont have any diag tools I'm afraid. New to all this. It's on a Sept 2008 (58) plate. 600 nm sounds a lot. Every box Audi puts out of the factory , even the 3.0tdi FWD only puts out 400NM even with the increased bhp. It just worries me they must stick to that number for a reason...

I would love to get my 2.0 Tdi re mapped. However I'm not sure I trust the multitronic to behave with an increase in torque to deal with. I believe these later multitronic boxes are a lot better and relatively trouble free.....but I don't want to push my luck.

Tedward,

If you have the same box as me, I would think you have plenty of breathing space from original torque spec on the 2.0 tdi ?

me neither!, mines at 74000, i think as long as you keep up with the gearbox service intervals you should me ok though. VAG seem to over engineer their parts. Someone once told me, as long as the power delivery is not spiked and delivered in a constant linear fashion, the gearbox should be fine, however like you, I need some re- assurance

My gut instinct is not to get it done on my current car with the miles and a potentially fragile box. That said if it was a manual version I would probably be fretting about cooking the clutch or dual mass flywheel, all big money to sort.

A remap makes more sense to me on a new car with a warranty.

I just did a Revo Stage 2. remap on my B8 for 2 months ago. The tune should give like ~300hp and ~470nm when running on 98RON.

well why don't you pimp yourself and tell us why we should come to you as opposed to other places? ie, do you have charts etc showing what increases we'd get for our money, do you have a customer review/feedback page etc

Cant wait to get my s4 remapped.
Price of other mappers puts me off compared to other vechiles I have had mapped

Our website is being heavily upgraded at the moment and it's taking its time. If you search on here and AudiSRS.com you will find some feedback. I personally have a great amount of passion for what I do, and so strive for perfection. One thing I'm very aware of is this is your pride and joy that we are dealing with, so I need to gain a level of trust and to assure you that I feel the same way.

Why should you come to us?

Mechanically very sympathetic, the car is protected where it needs to be from both general dirt and potential knocks or scratches.

Custom - and that means truly custom. Everything developed in house, and we are able to tune to your exact spec? Worried about your clutch? Then maybe consider only a very slight torque increase low down, but extend the torque curve for more peak power and a wider power band. This way no extra strain is placed on the drive train.

Moneyback guarantee. We always go out with the customer after the work is done. He or she should have a big smile on there face. If you are not happy, then we simply don't charge for the remapping work. This has never happened yet, and relys on trust and honesty of both parties.

Thanks, Rick

Gentlemen,

we are looking to do a mini group buy on B8 remaps. Limited to 3 spaces for forum members only. The idea is you guys will provide honest feedback to the Audi Sport community. These would be carried out in November as we have a DPF removal offer for B7's in October.

The offer is this: Remap only £250. Remap and DPF removal £350. These prices aren't sustainable from a business point of view but I'm keen to get some of you B8 guys on board. Plus, I enjoy what I do so call it overtime :)

Thanks, Rick

Can you stick a graph up so we've some idea what we'd be getting?

Damn! If you were nearer I would be booking in with you! :crying:

Rick my first post on this forum after purchasing my a4 avant sline on thursday, its a 57 plate but 08 model i think,id have to seek more info to make sure. before looking at the diesel,so many people commented on the dpf issues,so its something ive thought of (removal),also does your remapping improve fuel economy in anyway? i'm in stockport myself,so you would be a definite option for me,ive not done much research as yet. feel free to pm me with more details if you like.

Hello Ged,

yes, undoubtedly economy will go up. I have had a few local customers but most are "Joe Public" and not forum enthusiasts.

My mobile no is on the website so you can give me a call or drop me your no on email if you want a chat about it :) Any questions I will be happy to answer. We are currently in a unit at the Safestore on the A6 if you know it, but are moving shortly.

I wholeheartedly disagree about ECU removal being the safest method of remapping. OBD flashing eliminates so much potential human error! Fortunately by now there are many tuners out there who are good at removing/opening/resealing/reinstalling ECUs without any problems. While very rare, the worst thing I've seen happen if something goes wrong during an OBD flash, the tuner would have to pull and open the ECU to recover it. Not so bad though :)

If you've chosen a man in a van to do your remap, you can almost expect potential horrific outcomes I suppose, but hey, he was only going to charge you £100, right?! :p

Tedward, is your vehicle S-Tronic?

Daggerit, these are all valid concerns, but let me ask, if your ECU is removed and opened and reinstalled with little-to-no visual indicators of removal, what's your worry? Even if they caught it, has anybody had their full powertrain warranty voided? The worst I've seen is a dealership refusing work on a car until the ECU (if faulty) is replaced and then they'd go about warranty work :) If you get a remap from a reputable company, I'm sure they would cover the expense of the ECU if the fault were on them--I know we would.

Moral of the story: Worry less, enjoy more :)

So you would actually pay for the replacement ECU if something went wrong with it and it needed replaced?

Having it broken out is not what I was so worried about, more the warranty issue but from what you're saying that doesn't matter so much if you're willing to replace the ECU if it goes tits up then it doesn't matter so much!

How much for the 245 3.0 TDi DPF delete and remap as required?

Yes. If apr or its authorized distributors are responsible for a failed Ecu it would be replaced by us.

I don't have a dpf delete calibration for that engine yet, but it is something we're very interested in making. Could you pm me your details--I'd like to discuss this further with you.
