Hi , just joined and need a little help . have searched all audi forums but no info found . i have a 2009 a3. The large chrome square around the centre of the steering wheel is badly damaged , can i get a replacement and how do you remove the chrome square , i dont want to have to get a new Airbag as i know they are very expensive.

any help appreciated

Tom

I have noticed a few scratches on my chrome surround too and was looking into replacing it . Im pretty sure you will have to buy a new airbag as it all comes in one piece with the centre plastic piece attached to it :/

Airbag covers can be bought from eBay , i think they are around £90ish, or pm N8 & see if he can get you one ;)

can you replace the cover without upsetting the airbag ,, wouldnt fancy it going off whilst working on it.

also can you disconnect it without bringing up airbag fault as long as you dont turn on ignition....

Yes, disconnect battery and leave for 30 mins or so just to be sure before removing steering wheel/airbag :)
i have edited my post as after a quick eBay search i found they are around the £90 mark, eBay .de should also have them

Thanx for the help,,, looks like an expensive repair for a small item,,,
