I joined the masses with front suspension knocking noise. I found this TSB in the passat section

Front suspension, Knocking Noise regarding the subframe shifting. I replaced all 6 subframe bolts and put in the two shims and damn, all the noise went away

7M3499349A x 2
N 10640301 x 4
WHT000431A x2

I have the same problem and also came across the same TSB today, have ordered this kit below and hope it fixes it.

ECS Subframe Spacer Plates Kit - Golf Mk5/Mk6 etc > Suspension > Golf Mk5 2004-2009 > VW Golf > VAG Specialists > PSI Tuning - VAG Specialists

When did you used to get the knocking noise?

You need 4 of those bolts and two of the black ones as stated above. the shims are the same. I get the knock at low speed, turning at os speed, speed bumps and uneven pavement. drove my OCD crazy

The bolts in the kit are for the 2 inside bolts nearest the exhaust that need replacing. Have you replaced the rest of the subframe bolts at the same time, I couldn't see that mentioned in the TSB?

What vehicle do you have?

Thanks

Yes, i replaced all the subframe bolts at the same time. best to just replace them all

Which of the part numbers you supplied above are for the 4 sub frame bolts? I have fitted the ECS kit today and I think it is slightly better but not totally gone so I now want to order up the remaining sub frame bolts and change them as well.
Where are the 4 sub frame bolts located that you replaced? Are they all at the back of the sub frame or are there a couple at the front that I can't see under the undertray?
What torque did you tighten them upto?

Thanks in advance.

Any news or results from these bolts yet, i think my TDI suffers the same knocking. it drives me crazy!!! :keule:

I have the car scheduled to be looked at this week for subframe movement, just wondered of I need the four bolts or just the two?

I replaced the 4 bolts in the end and touch wood it has stopped, replacing just the 2 inner bolts on there own didn't work for me.

Thanks for the reply Dave, would it be possible to point me in the right direction for the bolts.
The below numbers dont mean much to me:

7M3499349A x 2
N 10640301 x 4
WHT000431A x2

The knocking sound has returned!!!!!! I will hopefully be looking at the underneath of the car again this evening so will report back tomorrow.

I feel for you Dave, mine drives me nutty.

I get the knock when going slow over bumps, I also seem to get a jerk when changing gears as if there is excessive movement or play somewhere in the engine bay.

I fitted a powerflex dog bone bush a few months ago that made little or no difference.

Keep us informed... :friends:

Replaced both bolts that you can get to up through the bottom of the wishbone and still hasn't sorted it!! Also fitted a powerflex dog bone bush which has also made no difference apart from transmit more vibration through the car!! Will be removing that later today.

At a loss to what it could be now, did you get your car looked at?

Ted- From the colonies here.
Have we a link to a pdf of this document? Stateside we are just learning abut it (see the 2014 prefix), so we're baffled finding it. My TTRS had the thunk, and I found all sorts of consternation.

TIA

When I had my mk2 Leon a few years back this was a known problem.
i replaced the bolts and fitted the shims which cured the noise.
I wasn't aware Our cars suffered from this.

The Leon shares a number of components with the A3/8P chassis.
