Right the other day i was offered a P-flo kit for my S3 for pretty good money. So it would have been silly to turn it down, particularly as the all intakes give a fairly equal gain (yes debatable i know).

Well i had a friend with me and we got to it. Although any silly fool can fit this intake, its easy! So if any of you are worried you'd make a hash of it, REALLY you cant.

Firstly removing the factory intake system. Pretty easy. Just removed the constant tightening metal rings and riggled the top cover off and it came off with ease. Also taking the MAF out and putting it to oneside. A couple of screws need un-doing where the air original comes in through into the engine-bay. (little black ones)

So with the plastic bits from the originals pushed aside. Simply push the rubber reducer on the turbo end and jubilee it on. Then put the main intake pipe into the other end of the rubber and once again jubilee.

Fix on the smaller pipe, Push on, use the metal clip already on the original pipe. (3rd Picture)

So then the main pipe goes across the back of the engine and down past the left hand side of the battery housing. There is a fixing screw to put on halfway down the pipe as it goes by the battery housing.

So now, jubilee time again. fix the filter on.

Moving back up the pipe, make sure you put the MAF sensor in, simply screw back in. Use screws supplied not the audi screws, the thread is different.

There was a heat shield included. I didnt use it. I have heard chatter problems and metalic sounds happen. I tested it and really....tested it. It got warm but never stupidly warm. I could put my hand on it and grip it without getting burnt so heatsoak isnt too bad. However if in stop start traffic i can see it getting hot. Ill probably wrap it in silver foil tape to reflect the heat.

The noise isn't excessively loud at all. Its just right. Just makes the engine sound more beefy. Rev's are much free'er flowing.

Darth Vader does live in the glove box to some degree but its not loud loud. Just right.

If i get enough people asking for the Darth Vader sound from inside the cabin ill shall do a video.

Tidy. Does it bolt to the side of the engine just above the Neuspeed sticker or just rest on the engine casing?

How has the car felt since fitting it.

yeah just above neuspeed, if you look at the second picture there is a small bolt fixing it to the car. the only other place it's held in place is in the short rubber tube that is pushed on the turbo end. picture 1.

most of the fixings are jubilee and push on. it's just that one Philips screw bolt.

Car definitely rev's more freely and has a deeper sound.

when driving slowly you can hear it sucking air in. almost like the sound of blowing down a long cardboard tube.

overall I rate it. Value for money means its a no brainier for me. Looks much tidier than ITG too. I know gains might differ from .1bhp. but heck save ur money and buy a big sponge cone for the end of the neuspeed and it will look much the same.

Not boy racer ish at all. on the motorway it's no different at all from normal. It makes the car sound more powerful. I can see that your in Surrey but if your ever near Worcester you are more than welcome to have a listen. you only really hear a ssucking sound when your on hard acceleration.

Its a good easy mod. well worth the money. especially if you stick stage 1 onwards on it.

Yer, i mean i have a 2.0t not an s3 so the sound of the engine is pretty sobre and i am looking at a remap in the near future so i am sure this will help the engine breather better and it looks really cool

I'm pretty sure it was neuspeed who offered the half open boxes for their filters. They're kinda sealed once the bonnets closed. Would be a worth while investment will reduce heatsoak. That and a decent cold air feed should see some power increase. One mod i'd say to do if u can, wrap the whole intake pipe in heat reflective material. Check out a company called zircotec, i had to make a ceramic coated exhaust for a project, they make some really good quality products

It does sound good I think I will get a sponge cone perhaps for it. might look better and also filter better.

I think with stage 1 onwards on there it will become much more alive. I'm just too reluctant to part with mmy cash at the moment!

Beat me to it! That's exactly the same looking as the K&N Typhoon fitted to mine.

It works well, is not too loud and...hang on.... how much?! £134 is much cheaper than mine cost!

The trick to the £134 was that someone had it on their MK5 GTI KO4 for 2k. The condition was absolutely MINT. it came with box and all the bits including the heat shield. All the way from north Scotland!

A friend saw it for sale on MK5 forum. so I snapped it up.

Ive since had a look on their forum and they seem to be always selling masses of things. mostly irrelevant to us 8p peeps but the odd thing like a P-Flo or an ITG etc come up. Wheels on there too.

ive also noticed fuel pumps with auto tech internals.

They sell pretty quickly by the looks of it.

I think if you were wanting to save money I'd go second hand. it's an intake after all. it doesn't go out of date as such. Theyll always do the same job and it will save u cash.

Im thinking about doing the 'race extension' to this P-Flo......theres supposed to be added noise....ohhhh yeah... and lower temps which is all good.

However i really dont want to pay the ludicrous price for the actual neuspeed part. £150ish

So essentially, i just need the right bit of silicone pipe to extend it down the hole in behind the fog light.

Can anyone recommend the best place i can get an 'elbow' and then perhaps a 250mm straight pipe for it? All i need to do is to jubilee them on and ive got the 'race' equivalent at a much cheaper price.

Try Merlin Motorsport fella, not sure price wise but I've been building a rig for work with intake hoses, and they have lots of diff sizes of Samco elbows/connectors etc.

Got me thinking of actually building my own intake with it, just have to buy the ITG carbon box and do all the ducting myself.

No, All the intakes are much the same. Whether its ITG, Forge twintake, P-FLO, Evoms etc You definitely will not feel any difference in power.

The only one really, that has slighly different characteristics is perhaps the Evoms, it is known for lots of chatter.

For some reason, i want to do a twin cone arrangement, but i cant for the life of me find a 'Y' piece that would work.

So i'm resorting to 'race spec' intake instead.

I had one of these on my A3, throttle response was MUCH better on pulling away with a warm engine after I fitted a heat reflective wrap around the whole intake. It gets very hot. Also its easy to make a cold air feed from the fog light area which helps a lot at higher speeds.

I'd be more inclined to put an air duct feed from fog light to inner wing, much less likelihood of soaking the filter head and risking direct water ingress during heavy rain. And ducting hose is cheap.

Heat shielding is quite key as the metal pipes suffer so much heat soak at low speeds, so tape or ceramic heat coatings / heat shields are a good thing to.

I really want an intake, and love that sucking sound under hard acceleration if it's not too much. Just sure my warranty will be down the pan and I can't have that... Anyone got one of these on a car under warranty from Audi and not had any issues?

i think they can only void a part of your warranty IF they can prove the modification has contributed to the damage. If you turned up at dealers with an engine that had suffered hydro-lock which came about from having filter located in front bumper aperture I'm sure they wouldn't be replacing the engine FOC!

Most dealers will be reasonable about basic mods, but others play the 'wash their hands' card as it's one more reason for them not to help you. Either take it off for each service / warranty or go to an indy if it's too much hassle.

Well, ive gone the ducting route instead of moving the filter as now ive had a closer look, when it rains the open grill fog light will 100% soak the filter.....not good.

Ive fed it up through the hole and have the ducting sitting beneath the filter.

Even after a 2 mile run, i checked the ducting and it was warm, it just shows how much heat must be in there.

either way, lots more air now..... total cost....£8 not bad. 100mm foil ducting (1 metre long) perfect length and width is spot on too. + a few zip ties to secure it.
