Hi Guys,

Not sure how many of you on here have had experience with mopeds. Basically I have wondered for a while why there was a small bolt in the small section from the engine to the silencer on my moped. I thought I would remove it today and it sounds much improved. Very throaty. With it in the bike sounds like a whining mini engine (which is good if you like it quiet) It sounds really sporty with the screw removed, almost like a motocross bike. Power seems to be the same, only difference is I think it takes an extra crank to turn over. Are these made to be removed to enhance the sound or improve performance? All it is basically doing is creating another outlet for the air. Just lets out the exhaust gasses before it reaches the silencer. So I am not sure if this is made to make it sound sporty or are they not built to be removed? Any advice would be much appreciated. It sounds like a 250 not a 50. :D :eyebrows: Make people turn round to wonder what it is instead of laughing ;)

But if it will cause any damage to the engine then it will be going back in.

Many Thanks,

Matt :kissmyrings:

Hey, don't ask why as I'm not sure myself but I am rebuilding a moped at the moment :)

Anyhow, back pressure is your friend with a 2 stroke so I would put it back in!

You gonna put up a build thread? ;D Would be interested in seeing that mate :D It is a 4 stroke, which is why it is so quiet.

Lol, if I knew what I was doing I might haha!

At the moment i'm being pulled into the moped tuning scene lol, must stay away, must stay away haha!

Hahaaa!

Put it this way, so much cheaper than the Audi modding scene ;) Bought my moped off my dads mates son. Paid £80 (so my mum thinks) Nahh only give him £100. It was in a mess. 56 Plate, 7000 kilometres. Around 4500 miles :) We are up to around £270 in total now but she looks brand new. We were lucky to find another one breaking. Mine had been dropped, we have a whole pot full of self tappers that they bodged it with, no lies.

Lol, mine is a 2001 Gilera DNA 50 with 8000 miles on it!! Absolute dog but only through neglect, everything has been a pretty easy fix, apart from the water pump that I am sorting currently!

Also bought off my dad's mates' son lol :)

Lol, I'm 30 haha :)

I passed my test before the 1st Feb 2001 so gained full moped privileges with it :)

Mine was up for sale for £50 so I though sod it :)

LMAO, Good luck with the moped mate. I am on a forum now.. Scooter Shack. You should join up, some really friendly people on there.

I'm on there I think... Will have a look later on :)

Lies... all lies!!!!
I had a Honda X8R-S when I was 16, I spent over £4K just on parts...

70CC big bored kit
Leo Vinci Exhaust
Gear Up Kit
Rollers
Kevlar Belt
Rollers
Variator
Race CDI Unit
Neon lights (Because I was cool)
21mm Carb with air filter
1/4 inch throttle

My final addition was a NOS kit.... I melted the piston after that

Replaced the top end and sold it for £1300 Whoops!!

OUCH! I bet that hurt getting £1300 for it :O Well put it this way, what I have done to mine is a hell of a lot cheaper than what people are doing on here :D

Laughed at the bit about the neons ;) Because you were cool ;) My next modification will be to put 2 4" speakers and a mini amp under my seat. Already got it planned and designed. 42 LED's on 2 strips round the outside! Be very flash ;) Most of the reason I am doing it is just for a project :) God knows how the battery is going to last if you see all the electric mods I want to do.

Oh yeah I had done that too, MDF cut into shape, 2 x 13cm Sony xplod speakers and any head unit that took an aux in.
I bought a second battery, wired it it so it only powered my speakers and then when it died I could swap it with my battery in the moped. Kick start it and away you go, new battery for music and spare getting charged. I might have photos on photo bucket, will have a look tomorrow :)
if you do it make sure you cover / wrap the wood holding the speakers in, otherwise it blunts the sound

I will be purchasing a 12v mini amplifier designed for it :) I want to fit a second battery, however I am unable to see anywhere I could fit it :(

If you have any pictures that would be awesome :D I plan on wrapping the one side in carbon fibre vinyl. Will that help?

Im loving this thread, keep up The good work lads. :) x

If you have a seat compartment there should be loads of room for a battery? You can hinge the support so it just lifts up, is what I did. I could take it out then and store my helmet when I didn't need it.
I can't find any pictures sadly, had my latop nicked a while back and lost everything. Might have some on my old hard drive if I ever dig it out. Vinyl will be fine, carbon fibre or anything else, as long as it has some cushioning for the speakings to rest on you will be fine. Speakings directly onto wood gives a horrible reverberating noise!

Trying to attach a pic of mine now lol! Got to admit, had a moped when I was 16 that was taken off me by my Dad when I crashed it into a bridge! I loved it before that hence my re-involvement lol! This one is one of those that looks like it should be so much faster than it is haha!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346278149111805

Only just noticed to the 2 rings of Gilera........ halfway to the 4 rings of Audi lol :)

You would think I would have space wouldnt you? Well some idiot decided to put the battery under the seat as standard. (Most are in the floorpan, the sensible place) As I cant fit half my helmet under the seat. (I will be getting a top box for my helmet) The space I have to put the speakers is VERY limited! And I only have about 2.5 inches below where they will be positioned. So I cant place another battery below. Here is what it is like under my seat:

The camera makes it look so much deeper than it is. The battery has wasted so much space. I have spent an age trying to figure out where else I could put the battery but there is no where. Unless if I wanted it dragging behind me of course :lmfao: Only downside is I cant afford any more drag ;) The thing will struggle to move once I've finished doing what Ive planned.

I have made a template and everything for the design already. I have only just painted the underseat compartment, once the paint drys I will post up some pictures of it with the template inside :)

Ooooooh, gotta admit I quite like that :) Dont see many 50's like that. Other than the wannabe MOTO GP riders on the Aprillia 50's.

Once seen a boy pass the school on a RS50cc Aprillia. Kitted out in full one piece Alpinestar leathers with the knee guard everything! Arai Helmet.. had to laugh at him. About £1500 worth of bike kit for a bike that will struggle to do 30 with the restrictor on it.
