Possible to check for"mileage correction" via vag com?

Hi, just recently bought an 2005 A3 tdi for the mrs and i am not 100% convinced on the mileage.

Is it possible to check via vag com or similar for any changes made to the mileage?

Is there a true reading to be found buried somewhere in the ECU?

I know you can check the old MOTs on the history checker, i have done this and it stacks up but there are a couple of years where the car has literally done 2-3000 miles a year!!....im not convinced.

My missus's car is lucky to do 1500 miles a year....

If the MOT data stacks up then chances are its ok

Yes i supose this is a possible explanation, i would like to 100% know though as i have a 3 month no quibble return warrenty.

Also just for peace of mind its not a 180,000 mile pig in disguise!

I supose deep down i dont think it has, but i took a punt on a lost service history and bought it on overall condition which is generally excellent.

Its the fact i received the log book today and its had 8 owners (do private plate changes add an owner??) could explain that as its had at least 2 i know of. And the strangely short milages between mot's on what i consider to be a daily hacker with the tdi lump.

You can check the ecu mileage with vcds if you go to applications on the main page, then edc15-16 button this then gives the ecu mileage

Check the MOT certificates too, you can do this online.

Don't assume all TDis are bought to do big mileages... We have a 2010 170TDi Sportback that's not done 10k miles yet.

You're right - some people buy completely inappropriate cars for their usage because they can't see past the MPG figures.

There are people that do that, there are people who just prefer the drive of a diesel and wave a torque, and there also people who buy a car for a purpose and circumstances change like being made redundant!

Reasons for owning or buying certain cars isn't always black and white and with the costs involved in changing cars it's not always cost effective....

Yes as stated you can check via the edc icon in vcds, this will show you the ecu mileage which is seperate from the cluster mileage, on that ecu, not all ecu's are supported of course, but you should be fine to see if the 2 are out of whack with eachother.

If you say the car is in excellent condition chances are it is genuine. Look at signs of wear, if you have seen a few cars, you should be able to tell if its genuine. Pedals, seat wear drivers side etc..

I have, I work on cars for a living ( bodywork) and it's a really nice genuine car. Im still inclined to check to be 100% sure on the miles as the chain I bought it from( Evan's halshaw) will do a total refund if any mileage discrepancies exist.

I would be annoyed if past my 3 month warranty the engine or box goes and it's because it's a secret high miler.

What Bez means Mike is if the mileage correction is done properly, as in the cluster & ecu are corrected simultaneously, then they will read the same, whereas some only are able to do the cluster, which tbh I know the 8P tdi is done like this with one good tool my guy uses, which is same as the mk5.

Ah - ok Nige. I wasn't thinking about correction, just about a simple check !!

I'd be wanting more then just a refund if its a higher mileage car thats been clocked back!
