Will B5 S4 uprights bolt straight onto a 2.8 Quattro using the existing CV's etc or are shafts required???
should directly swap, but your brakes wont fit, you'll need the s4 ones or brakes from a b6/b7
Porch Cayenne (or the equivilent caliper from a touareg or Q7) will more or less bolt on, but you need to mess around a bit with the bolts and disks.
I bought the brackets yeah, no idea if they'll fit the calipers i'll have but i'm going to give them a try and see.
I've got a pair of Brembos off a Megane 225. Bolt spacing is correct, but offset etc could be totally wrong. I'm hoping i can skim the brackets down if needed, but obviously if material needs added it becomes a bit more difficult!
Yeh i'll be sure to do it properly. The adaptors have plenty of girth, so i dont think it'll be a problem taking a little bit off if needed. If i'm not happy with them i'll sell them on and have a new set made, doesnt usually cost much more than £100 to have a set made up.
I'm really surprised no-ones used the megane brembos before tbh. They've got perfect sized pistons for the b5, are radial mount so easy to adapt, very slimline so should provide good wheel clearance, are a monoblock design so should be really stiff, and are fairly cheap.
The adaptors i've got are just those ones off SRS for the porsche calipers. I'll see how they fit, and go from there.
The calipers were from ebay, cost me £200. Clio ones are the same too, think they're used on the 197/200 clios.
Porsche rears are completely useless, even for a golf.
Folk that fit them are basically clueless, as even though its a fancy 4 pot, in hydraulic/mechanical terms its the equivalent of fitting an Audi rear caliper to the front of the car.
996 Fronts are fine for a golf/A3, but the pistons are a bit small for an A4. 996 Turbo or 997 C4S front calipers are better matched to the A4 in hydraulic terms, but they're designed for 34mm thick disks which poses issues with making them work with an off the shelf setup.
For mine i plan to use a 320mm disk (same size the S4 uses as standard) from an A5 as i feel this will be plenty for the use the car gets, and provides a decent balance between adding huge amounts of extra weight, wheel clearance, and performance.
