Time for a build thread....big turbo

No way of knowing what real world effect the arms have on their own then?

Guess not.

The OEM arms I'm sure are pretty stiff, but also heavy, but aside from the weight, the main advantages are in the bushes in the TCA which are more rigid.

I think if I was doing this again,or recommending it to anyone else(which I would)I'd definitely have the whole lot done at the same time, not only as it means the whole thing is improved, but also it would save install costs.

Yes I agree, do they widen the track though those arms Alex? I'm upgrading later this winter.

The track remains the same......basically as far as I know it's exactly the same as stock dimensions, but a much better, lighter part.

Thanks for the info Alex :applaus:

My pleasure.

This place, plus VAGOC and AMDTuning have saved me so much time, effort and money that might otherwise have been wasted, that the least I can do is to put something back.

I'm getting close to what I wanted from this car a few years ago,and I know Audi would never have released something like this, but it's been fun all the way so far.

I agree 100% the same.

Thanks Alex, I will do this mod later in the year with my bushes etc as well

I think you'll be very pleased with it.

I did the whole lot in one go as it takes a good 2 days to get all of the bushes done, and means taking down the ARBs as well,so it made sense to do it this way, rather than in 2 bites.

It may have been nice to see what the differences were, but I suspect it would come down to each making a part of it,but the lot together being much better.

No I agree, I haven't got a front ARB so that should save some time

What happened to that?

I think I can guess, but let me know anyway!

OK something else to add to my cab whilst doing the arbs ...

There's always more.

Each time I do something,it leaves something else I want or need, but it's coming together nicely right now.

You need to remove it to lay frame with the air ride. But car drives fine, end of the day, its a 2.0TDI, its not very fast and is on very big wheels, its DSG so gets driven with care and a lack of speed

Check out AP as well and also drop DaveB1970 a line first.

PM me, as I'm a dealer for Dave ;)

I thought it might have had to make way for the air ride!

Remind me... What size wheels are you running on it ?

I'm about to fit a bigger set to mine.

Coming soon to a car near me....

ProRace1.2

One failed QC last week so it had to be replaced, but should be ready this week.....along with another treat for the poor old car.

Interesting as I use these wheels aswell & had a rather bad issue of late, expand on yours please Alex, as in QC failed because of?

Actually nothing too serious.....paint failed QC on one of the rims.

What size are yours?

I had a QC paint fail on my rims from Compomotive for my rally raid jeep.. It happens sometimes - the wheels are still great when they finally turned up!

Love the TD's by the way Al  proper no-nonsense wheel to do a job!

Well...I reckoned if it was good enough for the BTCC,it ought to be more than good enough for me!

20" Rotors with 225/30/20 tyres.
Cheers.....did you roll the arches as well?......my fingers are crossed for tomorrow when all this stuff arrives.

And now...time for some shiny bits......Supaloy

Does this mean it's time to upgrade from the GT3071???

You're going to be needing to reinforce the chassis at this rate... :-D

That's a GTX3071,which has approximately 10% more flow for the same core dimensions, and is good for about 550bhp or so,maybe a bit more with WMI.
Without running an off-board ECU and extra injectors(as I know a mate of mine has been looking at),this is the realistic limit of the current HPFP,so there's no point in looking for more there right now,and a race-spec GTX3071 with metal bearing cage etc would be good.
Chassis......there's always one of these...

Before a rollcage....

now you're talking...!:yum:
Thanks!.....a rollcage may be a step too far,but I've heard good things about the Unibrace products,so it may be one for the future, although the chassis felt good enough around Brands recently with the real problem being high speed understeer.
Hopefully the recent mods, plus the new tyres will help.

Standard arches fella. Turbo looks, sounds, and bet it goes, well
Cheers!.....if you can squeeze that lot under standard arches, there's hope for what I have in mind.......rims arrive today, and should be fitted with the tyres ready for the weekend maybe.

18's, the rim cracked for no reason whatsoever, was rolling from Cirencester to Newport, Telford, so M5, M6 & iirc M54, then was at hotel, subsequently in morning had flat tyre, thing is, it wasnt cracked before that short drive & no pot holes hit I was cruising at normal speeds as was tired, didnt have any signs of damage, just the crack, TD tried to get out of it, but I emphasised I had 2 sets of them & I wasnt at all happy as they were supposed to be rock hard rally wheels & used on a normal road & normal car.

I got it replaced, but only after allot of hassle & now being told any wheels painted are void of warranty, typical, how the paint can affect the solid structure of the wheels defies belief as the metal has already been formed as such to a supposedly high quality.

The CS apart from the sales manager, was shockingly shxt I have to say!!!!

Hopefully I won't get any of that.

AMD do quite a lot of business with them as well as using the 1.2s on the BTCC car.

In any case it was TD who picked up the fault and pulled the rim from the delivery.

Fingers still crossed...arriving today.

I now remember you phoning me when you were limping the car home, mate.....

Wow.. Thats one amazing build!

Thanks.....very kind.

Lots more to come, including the wheels and tyres,a bit of exhaust work, and then something special on the engine side.

I now remember you phoning me when you were limping the car home, mate.....

Like I said....hopefully none of that here!

TD and AMD do a good bit of work together, including using the exact same wheel on the BTCC Golf,so I think I should be OK.

More not so good news.....

TD had a batch of wheels where the alloy used failed QC.......mine were amongst them:(

Better than finding out after I'd got them on the road, but still disappointing.

Very interesting read that last post which I may indeed use to discuss my issues should another fail.
