Recondition or buy new

Hey guys I have got an a3 Quattro (ary) and the gearbox is on its way out should I try and find a low mileage replacement or recondition my current one. Also I am looking at getting a bit more power the engine has done 120k would this also need reconditioning or should I look for a new one.

Welocome to the forum
Im kind of new myself great help hear when you need it.
New is always better but dependant on budget its up to you
Engine is in its prime no need to replace it

Thanks mate hopefully I can help out a little myself.
that's good to know about the engine don't want it going pop lol.
and as for the budget I have set aside 2500 but could scrape 3 with this I need a gearbox and a clutch then the rest is for more power

Isnt the only difference mechanically the twin inter cooler and ko4 turbo

No, the S3 has different bodyshell with wider arches and different bumpers, rear spoiler, Xenon lights, Recaro seats etc so a fair bit different to the A3 quattro and I've prob missed a few bits.

But under ther the bonnet isn't my ary engine the same as say a bam other than the turbo and twin inter coolers?

I dont know but I'm sure Welly, Tuffty, Bill or one of the other sages on here will confirm.
