Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

I've eventually got of my **** and fitted my heko wind deflectors that have been sitting on my windowsill for 6 months +
I'm chuffed with them and find that they make a big difference to the wind noise at high speed which is a bonus as have the window open most of the time as haven't got round to getting the sitcom regassed
Here's a couple of pics with them fitted, the black grill surround and the powder coated goodies
Also after fitting them spacers on the front coilovers just before inters it really was sitting to high on the rear so whilst it was off the road I lowered the rear back down a touch
What you think about the height? I think it's a lot better than at inters and I dont get scrubbing on the front like I used to so think I'm pretty much there

That was a pita at inters i actually had to put some effort into making my car look clean
Ive just resumed the usual practice of getting the local bosso's to do all my car cleaning needs

Iirc you just use the oem nuts that were originally on there or they come with them? Cant remember exactly but know i didnt have to buy any extras

Yeah, mine are used (bargain price) so not sure they will come with them. You're not meant to use OEM they reckon, because they are flat. They recommend you use a standard nyloc (which comes in the kit new). Just not sure on the thread size and pitch. To google!

Yeah, after a bit of research, M14x1.5. Cheers! Attempting to fit the brembos again tomorrow. Wonder how it'll end up this time :/
Block is nearly prepped for painting, will hopefully be cleaning it in an ultrasonic cleaning tank tommorrow to get the last few bits and to clean the galleries out

Well I'm shocked how well this has come out but put the block in an ultrasonic tank today for a good few 20 min cycles and the result is brilliant
I've got to give it a wipe down as a lot of the remaining stuff wipes off and make sure that anything that was loosened in the galleries isn't still in there but the insides look like new

Far too much time on your hands, and far too much useful machinery etc for you to use. I'm jealous.
Me never, I'm always working with very little time off but suppose work can sometimes be a bit quiet with the nature of the job
Since mid may I think I have only been off for 2 Sunday's, 1 for inters and one to recover from Westys 30th, although one plus side of working a lot of weekends is that it's good homework time with little management about lol

Also have got a box of various goodies waiting in customs from IE and southbend, then have just placed an order with Issam at INA which will be here shortly
All that leaves is an order of oem bits and all is ready for various machining and to be carefully slapped together......really can't wait

Thoughts are if I don't get these bits in my possession asap then the chances of doing so and finishing the car will be massively reduced once loose part of the other halfs income and have to feed another mouth

9.0 comp ratio as the 0.4mm (iirc) thinner headgasket should bring the comp ratio up a little bit, did read somewhere that it brings it up about 0.3/0.4 which with the head having a bit off am hoping will end up around 9.5?

Well I think I may have a few issues
I drove to Dorset yesterday for a long weekend camping and car was absolutely fine through the 190 mile trek but after leaving it sitting for a couple of hours, I went to move it to a different space it had an EPC fault light up and idle just seemed slightly erratic
I was a bit preoccupied yesterday with setting the tent etc up and having a good few sherbets so haven't looked at it till now to find these fault codes on the liquid

Do you think the WMi has killed it? Welly has been through 2 I think as the WMI gets in the electric part and eats at the PCB.

I had suspected that as went through 2/3's of a tank of meth getting here and was my first fears but have been telling myself that hopefully it's a glitch and dont need a new TB?

Welly had this, as did my mate Dan with an LCR, lasted for 6 months or so, then the water somehow got into the circuitry on his TB and it started playing up a treat.
He removed the plastic cover on the TB and it was full of water!

Well had it off and took it apart and there wasn't anything out of the ordinary but when started up idle was still rough
Took it for a drive and all seems a lot better
Idle is now steady and drives fine, I suspect there was a bit of **** on the contacts for the variable resistor and opening and closing it a few times has cleared it
When I get home I will clean it with some electrical solvent cleaner and hopefully that'll see me through to when I put the r32 TB on with the new inlet

Went to AITP and had a brilliant time, the clubstand was impressive eapecially after inters, was good to meet a couple more of you as well as see some familiar faces
Had to add that the Saturday night at the holiday inn was also a laugh and will hopefully be doing it again
The only downside of the weekend was getting a crack in the windscreen from a rather large stone on the way there, does anyone know if the rubber strip above the screen gets replaced when the screen does or do I have to buy one?
Had a bit of spare time at work so I thought I'd start stripping and cleaning the head up as my valvetrain is now in the country from INA who sorted me out a really good price
Should hopefully be sending this off shortly for some work as well as new valvetrain etc to be installed

Yesterday was a bit of a light day
I had a ballast fail on one of my lights which I had already replaced a year earlier but anyhow ordered another pair from eBay for £40 to get me going again and should remain with one spare for if another Chinese ballast goes again lol
I had to cut the connectors off of the end and resplice them on there once had put the cable through the gland

Whilst I was at it I thought I may as well give the headlights a proper going over with wet and dry as had tried a few weeks back with a megulars refurb kit but still was pretty poor
Here's a couple of shots of a completed one with the other left to attack
I'm really chuffed with the results and the photos really don't do them any justice to how bad they were, it makes the car look so much newer and better from the front end
I also whilst I was at it decided to fit some LED fog lamp bulbs that I had attempted at an earlier date and couldn't fit as they have 170 SMD's per lamp iirc and it made them slightly to big to fit in the mounting hole in the fog lamp housing.....so out came the dremmel to open them up a bit and now looks sweet as a nut

What did you do to the headlights?
I need to do the same to some of mine. I went over them with 1500 paper which removed the marks i wanted rid of, but now they're all hazy. Do i need to just use a few finer grades? Or do i need to use some sort of rotary polisher with cutting compound?

I could only get my hands on 800 and 1200 wrt and dry so went over with both of them then went over a few times with the megulars headlight restoration kit (polishing pad and plasti rx) to polish the haze out

I have considered going for a 55watt unit over the normal 35watt to see if I can improve the rather crap headlight beam thats std with our cars... even the missus fiesta has better lights!

Problem with 55w is no-one makes proper 55w lamps. Philips and Osram only make 35w ones, so you end up with not only a chungwa ballast but chungwa bulbs too.
