Chauffeur Key?

Hey guys,

Did any of you guys get a Chauffeur key with your car pack? I never but the service guy at Audi said I should have. I went in asking if they could supply a manual key that I can stick in my wetsuit when surfing and thats when he said about this key. He then said I should go to a locksmith to get one made but they told me they can't do it and that Audi will have to supply one.

Anyone either managed to get one from Audi or from elsewhere?

Anybody else? The service guy showed me one from another car. It's basically an all black key without the electronic fob on the end.

yes ive seen this... my mate recently purchased an audi a4 (audi approved) and it was in his manual book thing all black plastic key in a little pocket.

I purchased a brand new vehicle but did not get one of these! how does it work?

If an extra key was registered to the car it would show in the DIS! I have 2 keys and my DIS shows 1/2 or 2/2 depending on which is in the ignition when checked, another key would mean it shows x/3

Mine is a dealer car & no mention of any Chauffeur key, but I would assume it's something normally associated with the A8, which is often Chauffeur driven. I've a feeling the Audi Tech\Rep is just showing off his 'knowledge' and it may in fact be used to replace a missing spare key on the cheap.

I'm reasonably sure you should be able to order a Valet Key for your car if you wanted one, sounds ideal for wet suit use.

Its a plastic blade, with a transponder moulded into the head of the key to enable you to start the car.

A quick google will reveal the other Valet functions

I've got 2 remote keys plus a black plastic key that fits nicely in my wallet for my 2003 A3. I guessed it was the norm. Never thought about it but I suppose it would be ideal for parking up then taking a nice swim. That's if if didn't live Birmingham/Coventry lol.

Thats the one. I've just read that it allows you to start the car for around 10-15 minutes before cutting out plus it only opens the drivers door. Not sure it would be any good in a wetsuit though as it must have a battery in it if it has a transponder? Could be worng though. The tech said if i could just get a copy of the blade made the alarm would give me about 15 seconds after the car was manually opened, to put the proper key in the ignition and switch off the alarm. That would be perfect for me but when I went to the lock smiths he dismissed me point blank. Maybe I'll try another shop.

I had one with both my new 8L S3's.
I didnt get one with the 8P S3. Just 2 keys registered in the DIS.

No, thats not quite correct. There is no time limit on starting and driving the car, only time limit is 15 seconds between opening the door, and putting the key in the ignition and switching the ignition on before the alarm goes off.

There are no batteries, just a RFID transponder moulded inside the head of the key, so you can get it wet no probs. The only danger putting it in a wet suit is snapping the plastic blade (but they are quite strong).

According to my ETKA (if someone else would like to check please) the part for a blank is 8PO 837 216.
You can then take this plastic blank to any locksmith to get the profile cut, but you'd need a dealer to code up the transponder.

Locksmith is talking rubbish. I've had a blank key cut before by a smithy and then left my original in the car to go windsurfing before. The only danger was that the car was locked but not alarmed... or the alarm would go off as i opened the car... Can't remember which now but either way a quick blip of the key as i opened the door would sort out any alarm / immob issues.
Try another smithy and explain you want it to lock a door and thats it!

The only danger was that the car was locked but not alarmed... or the alarm would go off as i opened the car... Can't remember which now but either way a quick blip of the key as i opened the door would sort out any alarm / immob issues.
Try another smithy and explain you want it to lock a door and thats it!

Sounds like your valet key had the correct profile cut, but not had the RFID transponder synchronised/coded to the immobiliser.

Valet keys should work as per normal keys (start car and let your drive etc.) but if profiled correctly, won't let you open the boot (on a saloon).


I used to use mine on the A4 in the winter to defrost the car in the winter.
Open car with normal remote key.
Insert Valet key in ignition and start car, switch on blowers and heaters to full.
Lock car with normal remote key.
Finish breakfast (while watching car defrost out of window)
Climb into nice warm defrosted car and drive off!

Hey guys, a quick update. I managed to get a manual key cut from Timpsons at a cost of £15. Not bad really. I'm sure I could have added a 0 to that amount if I bought it from Audi.

The Smithy said that it will only open the door and if I attempt to start the car with it the car will immobilise itself for 35 minutes. Any truth in this? I will just make a habbit of opening the car with the manual key then podge the electronic key fob before the alarm goes off.
