AH Fab / Ebay / Forge S3/A3 FMIC installs (image heavy)

There are a few posts on Forge FMIC fittings on this thread and the AH v1 was based around the Forge so that list applies..

Fitting instructions at the bottom of the page..

Cheers Tuffty. So your saying I should have the following contents of the list bellow, and what I don't have I will need, in order to install and it should be pretty straight forward once I have those peices?

2 x 51mm 45deg silicone elbows
2 x 60mm to 51mm 90deg silicone reducers
2 x 51mm 45deg aluminium pipes
2 x 60mm aluminium hose joiners
1 x 60mm hose piece to replace short piece off MAP sensor tube (optional)

6 x 54mm-62mm clamps
7 x 67mm-75mm clamps
1 x 73mm-81mm clamp

Can anyone with a Forge FM confirm which size pipes are needed? Just about to go ahead and order the above.

I received my cooler and 3" piping.
Fitted on over the weekend, original fogs are out of the picture, but aftermarket LED ones to be fitted.
3" runs from charge pipe all the way through to the map sensor pipe.
Cooler is a fin and tube number and its pretty light weight.
No temps logged yet as its 48deg and not to keen to push the car in this heat.

KIT - quited a few pipes left over. Only used the 2x 90deg and the 2x U shape( cut to fit )

Angle grinder springs to mind!.if you do yours before i do.get some pics up please.more the better

It's going on a mk4 gti aswell,I'm sure there's less space than a s3.will be a struggle eitherway lol

Hi guys, im a complete noob to the turbo world and FMIC`s , Iv got a a3 quattro and im looking to buy a FMIC soon, for looks aswell as i want my car to pull like a train (i know i need atleast a remap too) but ive been scouring the site for info and ive kinda got the general idea on how to fit these but im still confused one where one pipe goes.

i understand one pipe attached to the block on the front of the engine (the pipe that flows down the drivers side of the car) but i cant get my head around where the other end goes and i cant seem to see any pics of peoples builds, I can see if going over the top of the engine and down to the back, but after that im lost.........

I thought it would of gone where the TIP connects but theen that wouldnt make sence and make an air box useless,

Can anyone help and give me a bit of an idea guys

Cheers

Lee

A bit of feedback on the AH Fabs V2. With ~3c ambient at the weekend (down in the snow), AITs were getting down to that (3c) on boost (around 6-7c off boost), believe it or not. Pretty ****** good.

Got the intercooler fitted today. Not as much of a job as i thought.
Had to scrap around to find some nuts for the bonnet catch and mess around with the horn bracket. But all done in a bout 2.5 hours.

I have re-read this post and cannot find the answer. Sorry if it's covering old ground.

I have an ah fabs v1 cooler I picked up second hand and have it all installed no problem.
The only thing is the top hose visible on the driver side is red.
I know all the hose sizes are listed but not exactly sure which is which.
I am wanting to replace it with a black one for a more oem look.
Also would like to replace the one on the passenger side that comes up from under the battery area to the inlet manifold/throttle body as this is currently a standard tapered hose.

Please can anyone tell me what size and angle hoses are needed.

thanks

Forge do replacements designed for this... there is no list for these parts as generally there is no need for custom ones on the S3

Thanks again for your help and rapid replies Tuffty.
I noticed on your guide you had THS ones

Where these from a kit as the forge ones or part of the eBay order?

Cheers

Just looking on eBay and there's a 600x300x100mm Fmic on there which is obviously bigger than the 76mm Wellys cooler. Would this be over kill?

Ive removed the aircon on my latest project so got more room to fit the thing but no point in doing it if the pressure drops going to increase or it's not worth it. Any ideas ?

The THS ones I have are pretty good tbh... they don't seem to be available any more now though...

Dan, its way too big stupid me ordered one by accident. It was litterally longer than the crash bar.how the hell it would fit behind s3/a3 bumper I doubt it.

Remember that 800bhp s3 on YouTube. That cooler isn't much different in size to the welly cooler so i dont think there woyld be much point in going bigger to be honest.

Nick at r tech is running a core for the a3 fmic and that's running 340+ last time i checked.

They fit boys, just need to man up with the grinder :)

haha this is how it went on grinder/hammer/drill. 310% man way of doing anything.

here is mine fitted still need to take a picture with the bumper on.

I was just wondering as the length and height where the same but it's 1" deeper and with the aircon removed I had more space, I'd imagine it would be over kill and theres a lot more to fill being a bigger volume. It's going in a TT anyway do there is more room behind the bumper.

Also is there any benefit running 3" ic piping over 2.5" from turbo to throttle body ?

Do you still the other fmic? Where abouts in the south east are you?

I think 3 would be better than 2.5 for perhaps a bug turbo setup but i think 2.5 pipes is more than adequate for what we need.

No sorry i returned it mate. I got it off eBay from 1stcar parts. About 88 delivered. Check them out mate

2.5" or 63mm is plenty big enough for most peoples needs... Bill still runs 63mm pipework on his Ibiza currently at 550hp...

With regards to the pipework diameter, are you best to have as little 3" pipework as possible and only step up/down at the inlets/outlets of the cooler?

Or is it better to step up at the charge pipe outlet?

Or does it make ****** all difference (performance / flow wise)?

Welly runs a 3" setup IIRC... but not sure where he steps down to 60mm for the std pipework...

3" would arguably induce lag as there is more area to fill over a given time period and velocity will be down so might affect torque...

63mm is plenty big enough so its more down to fitment... if it were me I would use 63mm as much as I could

Cheers mate.
So I'm assuming any silicone top boost hose kit will still fit.
I was guessing that they were just for the smic and a fmic would be different.

Yeah, any of the kits available will be suitable...

hi guys anyone know the thread size for the four mounting holes on the welly cooler? i think its been covered on here but cant see it :(
