How's it going folks?

The power steering pump in my 2000 APY 1.8T S3 is in need of replacement.

I got one handy enough from my local breakers from an AWC engine code 1.8T, think that's a 150bhp engine. The pump housings are similar, someone told me the pump will work on my S3...

Will it be safe to install??

Cheers

As long as it's from a transverse mount engine it should be the same basic pump yeah.

Just out interest, what symptoms made you think it had gone? Mine makes a squeaking noise when I turn the wheel. If I turn it with the engine turned off, it's silent. I was hoping it was just a case of needing to top up the fluid, but sadly it seems like it's more than that. Is a replacement pump likely to sort this out, or could it be something to do with the rack?

Was the fluid low when you checked it? You may need to jack the front of the car up and bleed it with both front wheels off the floor.

It all started when my steering rack (which had a lot of play) finally popped its seals.... fluid leaked out at freefall speed! Replaced the rack and the handling is smooth and fine. But the pump was then making some dodgy sounds, kind of a loud clicking but usually only when my foot was on the accelerator. Flushed out the fluid has quieted it down a huge amount but still makes some noises...

I reckon the pump got damaged having to drive it to the garage with no fluid! Tried topping it up but like I say, came out faster that it went in!

I just checked the engine code AWC online there, that code came from a VW Sharan, should be transverse mount...
