Custom Dash Buttons / Switches

Hi all!

I am thinking of fitting some DRL's to my A3.. I saw someone one had drilled tiny holes for some bright white LEDs to go into the plastic trim where the fogs are housed, looked really good & not tacky like those stick on after market ones.

Only thing is, I want to have them switched. I have a blank port in my dash, a square one next to ESP & PASS air bag etc.

I want to put in a switch there, to toggle them, and I don't want it to look tacky, and thought I could do a really good job with it, so my question is:

Do you know of anyone / anywhere who can/could make custom writing on these switches? With an LED & back lighting like the rest of them with the cars lights.

Want it to be a really tidy looking job.. I have found one company who does them, only in the US.. OTRATTW

Or, any other suggestions / ideas?

I know this is not the answer you want but you can get a relay unit that you can use with your drls, The drls come on with the ignition and go out when the lights are turned on.

you get the relay with those stick on aftermarket ones

I have retrofitted a set of drls, you cannot tell they are on the car close up. I had to modify the fog surrounds a lot though.

The custom switches can be bought from carstyle4you
he has a nice collection of switches that you can buy. If you go for the switch option (most expensive) then it comes with a relay that you need to wire in yourself. The seller has very poor communication so dont expect an answer backto a question... The stuff turns up about 3 weeks after order but it does come in the end.
I have one of his switches and it blends perfectly with the other dash switches

As for the drl In fogs I think it was Gryphon's car that you saw...

Thanks Good thing to think about, didn't know they are supposed to turn off with main lights. I could do that with a simple relay thinking of making it in a box to control all this stuff.

Yeah I think it was those I saw, different angle though. is that 7 or 14 in each side? 2nd pic is reflections right? What size LEDs did you use? I'm thinking 1.8mm bright white.

That's exactly what I want.. except they're £40 for a switch.. I could make a digital toggle & save a few $$$ & learn how to make a toggle in the ABS project box.. sounds fun!

I have played around with many leds, Tbh i dont think 1.8mm is big/bright enough, 5mm will be better, If you are buying your own resistors and leds to wire up. Buy good quality ones as cheap ones from china tend to stop working ahaha

Yeah. I wasn't planning on putting them in the recess like this: VWVortex.com - A3 Custom FogGrill LEDs (non S-line) DIY...

So I could have smaller ones & put them in the outer lips (I have two on each side).

But I might use the 5MM & put them in the recess. I haven't got the car this morning so I can't check it out (it's having part of the prop fixed ) $$$

That's why I want to do a really good job of it. I have blacked out the grill & now want it to look a bit meaner.. I have googled around for aftermarket headlights with DRLs built in to make it look mean but beside the ~£200 tag they have reviews of them fogging up etc.

A3 button looks good,
just not for me
