Hi all,

My car has developed a rattle, metallic type sound whilst between 2800 and 3000 rpm? It only happens while driving not whilst in neutral and seems to happen before the turbo spools? Driving fine other than that and is not present after 3000 rpm... Any ideas what it could be? 2005 sportback tfsi Quattro?

Cheers

Its the fuels lines that run under the floor.... They resonate at certain rpm in certain conditions!

Really??!!! It only just started after a long ole trip to Devon! I'll see if it's still there tomorrow! Thanks buddy :)

i hd this on a A4 2.0 fsiT
intake manifold

Baffle in exhaust, or signs of cat breaking up?

No rattle this morning at all? Maybe a heat thing?

Yep, I've had this on a couple of cars. Different makes but was always the manifold or heatshield that was vibrating at about 2500-3000 rpm.

Thanks Ads is that a cheap fix?

I had this on last S3 and it was heat shield on the floor pan just by the down pipe. Dealer couldn't fix it because no error code so I took it to and indy specialist who tracked it down. Beer money later silence had been restored!

Good news, that's the kind I like to hear!! I'll get on to das auto and see what he says!! :))

Right had a good drive last night and its def not the fuel lines. Doesnt happen at idle or while reving. Only happens when the car is up to temp and its only when the car is between 2900 RPM and 3000 RPM below that or while decelerating its not present and the same once you get above 3k nothing... I can hold it at 2950 and keep the noise for as long as I like.. Sounds like nails in a tin..

Ive had a good look and can find similair symptoms on 08 TSI VW's which was due to a vibrating wastegate, cure was a clip.. But the symptoms dont match up 100% so thinking it must be flexipipe or heatshield..

If anyone has any more idea's feel free to chip in.. Its not driving me crazy but now I know its there I am looking for the noise if you know what i mean..

Got to be a heat shield then surely...

I'm going to leave it and wait till it next goes in for a service and get them to have a look while its on the ramp. Unless it get worse but I am wondering if its always been there and I havent noticed?
