What I mean by safe is. Is it safe to carry in the boot of a hatch back which is only separated from the passenger compartment by the parcel shelf? I have this thought of being rear ended and methanol leaking out of the tank just behind my kids in there car seats. I know it's a bit far fetched but having had a car written off having been rear ended. It's a fear.

Depends on the dilution level... 50/50 is still flammable (invisible flame!!) but Bill has been trying different mixes to see where the threshold is for useful ratio of meth vs flammability...

I am not sure what the outcome was but he did try a weaker mix that did not ignite under direct flame and appeared to keep IAT's in check but I can't remember the ratio off hand...

more rigid (perhaps metal) container? quick remove connections, so you can leave the lines in place and just remove the source?

From my bad experience with my WMI kit, there's more chance of the mixture flooding your engine then catching fire and burning you to death :(

Anyone want to buy my meth kit?

as tufftys says the % mix will effect combusability
50% meth burns..ignites on flame
20% meth burns..ignites on flame, just

I'll do a quick test and confirm what % its non ignitable..
brb

also remember that you don't even have to use any meth. Yes you will get more benefit from the meth but running just water still has it's benefits if your worried about using meth.

Thanks for the replys everyone.
Thanks Bill it would be useful to know.
Westy that was going to be my next question. Why is meth added to the water? Sorry for the remidial questions lol.

Apparently alot of people just run the pickup for the WMI pump into the washer bottle... Not sure how true this is though lol and if it is true what effects it has on the engine...

Welly does this. He fills his washer bottle with water and meth and uses it to wash the windows too.

The subarus and evos used to have FMIC sprays which were fed from the washer bottle too but obviously that's not going into the engine.

The FQs have a massive tank where the battery usually is for intercooler spray and a little control in the car for auto/manual/off. Pretty cool.

Just be aware you are squirting a potentially flammable liquid on your windscreen that burns with an invisible flame... :)

water alone will aid some cooling.... but on an efficient intercooler setup its gains are minimal...
adding meth, which is an alcohol which also has an effective octane rating of something like 115, evaporates even more rapidly turning from liquid to gas, extracting heat whilst it does it (latent heat of evaporation for anyone remembering physics lessons at school), and combined with its octane addition allows more ignition timing to be run, which in turn can add power and drop overall temps.

I'm fairly sure screenwash contains a high percentage of methanol anyway reesy, hence why it evaporates off your screen so fast

After a brief investigation, some wickes screenwash I found had less then 1%, so a 50/50 mix is a bit more extreme!

Thanks for the replys everyone. I'm not used to such fast respons and depth of knowledge in the replys! I'll have to come here again lol
I suppose the other solution is to re home my battery to the boot and put the WMI tank in it's place. ****** kids!

Personally I'd prefer my tank at the rear of the car then next to a hot engine. I don't see it as being any different to the fuel tank which is always at the rear of a car.

Just then it's out of the passenger compartment. That's my concern rather than it position front or rear. But yeah it's not ideal next to the engine either!

Fuel tank isn't inside the cabin though ;P

There is a degree of risk with any of this tbh... you just have to make the choice that suits you and how happy you are with it...

This is the approach I have taken although it wasn't because I didn't want to fit the tank in the boot... I relocated my battery to give me enough room to sort the charge pipes and eventually turbo intake to how I want/need them for my setup... once the pipes are in place I should have enough space for the WMI tank too... I am using a smaller tank than most people have (AEM kit comes with a biggish one) as I will have my WMI on a switch... I only want it on the odd occasion I need to use it for consistency under load rather than available all the time

okies...
did the tests
video's also... (excuse shakey hands)

Tests done.. % mix water/meth changed, and ign source flammability test, with combustable (paper) to show actual flame, as meth burns without a colour.. invisible...

100%, 50%, 40%, 30% meth tested

100% Meth - Flammable (no **** sherlock)

50% Meth - Flammable

40% Meth - Flammable

30% Meth - Not Flammable

Is wmi safe...

That's a bit like asking is it safe to **** off a lion?

That depends if it's behind bars, how long your stick is and whiter you no someone with a gun lol. Yeah I suppose you pays your money, you take your chances. Just want to limit the risk.

Most of use have AEM kits. I've had a few issues with mine but AEMs customer support is very good. I have also bought a Devil's Own Solenoid to fit to my AEM kit which prevents syphoning of the tank when the ignition is off. Bill uses the same solenoid on his kit.

I dont know too much about Devil's Own gear but as long as you get a pump that is 200+ PSI you should be ok. Bill says that the devil's own check valves are total rubbish so I think the main consensus is that AEM is better.

Interesting test results Bill! I can't see the vids but will watch later.

Will definitely be trying 30% meth on my next tankful and logging to see how IAT's are effected.

Di kit controllers have been extremely unreliable.. I used to use DO but their continual failure of controllers and poor service response made me switch to AEM... which are not without their issues of course as we have read.

Previously I used Snow Performance which is whats on badgerwagen and has been reliable.

Hi all
I don,t know too much about WMI is it safe for Audi anyone can help me or suggest me about WMI.

its fine used properly

google wmi and a lot of info will appear for you

okies..
added vag concentrate screen wash to some neat meth - 20ml screenwash, 30ml meth
20sw30meth - YouTube
no real colour change. a *slight* yellow initially which I thought was promising but that was only for an instant and probably something else

50/50 by volume wmi mix and 100ml of that with a "pinch" of salt..
le pinch of salt
salt-pinch-100ml-meth.jpg

and when combusted, no flame still... more than a pinch required then.. lol

I read boric acid makes it burn green... cool, but not so practical.. maybe

Just googled this which looks interesting.

color fuel color additive cautions
Code:
Green	Methanol, 1 gallon	Boric Acid, 50 g
Dark Blue	Methanol, 1 gallon	nothing - alcohol burns blue
Sky Blue	Methanol, 1 gallon	Potassium Iodide, 6g; Methylene Chloride, 200 ml	Poisonous fumes!
Violet	Methanol, 1 gallon	Potassium Iodide, 50 g
Yellow	Methanol, 1 gallon	Sodium Chloride, 50 g
Orange	Methanol, 1 gallon	Calcium Chloride, 50 g
Red	Methanol, 1 gallon	Lithium Chloride (actually any soluble lithium salt), 50 g

LOL can you make it burn Ovni yellow? Wouldbe good to know that you could see it burn though. If WMI is used to increase the octane rate and also cool the inlet temp. Could N2o be used instead? If not why not?
