A3 power steering rack - part number help

first of all, hi to everyone, i am new to your forum.
i urgently need some help, my A3 needs a new steering rack but i need to find out the part number of one fitted in my car so i can source the right part.
can anyone please help me get this from my chassis number and maybe suggest a place i can find one?

What car/year do you have? Are your going for a 2nd hand one or a new one? IIRC there are two main types, they changed the design over the years and the two arent direct replacements without some modifications. I'm sure NHN has has some dealings with this.

ETKA seems to go more by VIN number, but what you will have is a generation 1 rack but the danger in getting another matching gen 1 rack is it will fail the same (hence the changes). Hopefully Nigel (NHN) may be on & provide a bit more info on the matter.

Audi want around 850 for this!!!
the problem is finding one that matches my part number 1k2423051ac.
Can find them on
ebay but not with ac at the end[/FONT]

That part number was replaced on 01/04/2006 with no direct part number. Need to know what engine you have in order to provide part number. If it's a BKD engine the part is :- 1K0 199 313 H priced at £231

Hi there mike thanks for the quick reply , my car is a 53 plate with a 2.0 tdi engine in Am I right in saying some of these units are 3 plug and others are 2 plug , thanks dan

Yes 2 pin and 3 pin. Unfortunately things are a bit more complicated than I first thought. The number I gave you was the ' assembly carrier'. If you need the whole thing you will have to go to Audi to check against chassis number exactly which parts are required. The whole unit is available as part-ex but I'm afraid it's very expensive. £863 at the last count.

Sorry if I built you up but it very much depends on what bits you need and which ones are available separately. Just after your reg. they changed the rack design but I can't tell exactly which bits you need. Sorry !!
