New user - new car s3 8P2 - few questions! Oil catch etc

As per title I'm new to the forums just recently bought a 56 plate s3 8p2.
Actually pretty sure the previous owner was on here called doug? Scottish guy cracking bloke!

Im looking at fitting an oil catch can to prevent any more crap than necessary being put anywhere near my engine internals!
I made one for my previous car (8l s3). And it worked a dream, just wondered how much different the pipe work is for the 8p?
anyone have some pics/diagrams of a forge kit showing pipe layouts etc would be much appreciated, is there a crankcase breather somewhere that I need to tap in to?
Also noticed that the radio is a bit hit and miss sometimes with signal quality, seems like a dodgy connection somewhere with the ariel possibly? It has the rns e head unit and shark fin ariel. Anyone who's had this problem before?

One last thing! Apologies for the lengthy post, I'm in Shropshire and wondering best recommended software dealers nearby for a quality stage 1 map?

A catch can is essential if you're remapping or modifying the engine as the rubbish that collects on the intake valves is very significant.

I've got a Forge but there would be nothing to stop you making your own if you can.

The stumbling block would be the pipe block at the top of the cam cover and I don't know the innards of that.

Remaps.... Lots to choose from depending on what you need or like.

Revo,Shark and APR seem most common right now and I chose Revo for the path to a big turbo and so on.

Agree 100% with S3Alex, I've got a forge catch can and empty it around every 1500-1800 miles, although not full the amount of crap coming out of it is pretty significant.

Does the S3 with Stg1 already need oil catch can or is this mod required
more for stg2,sg2+,....?

Im an agricultural engineer by trade and just think that any crap like that should never go near the internals of such a precision engineered price of kit!
Granted tractors are a bit more rough and ready but even they dont do that, oil is just drained off from any breathers.
I guess it's all to do with emissions regs.
Ill post some pics of the car today after she's had a wash and I can figure out how to get them up here!

Have a peek through my build thread and you'll see all of the work on mine.

Looks pretty black on mine(!) but that was the idea....to look pretty normal but not go like a normal one.

Okay, bit confused now why does the forge catch can kit only have the two pipes connected to where the Pcv valve goes?
Theres no sign of one taking the oil from the rocker cover breather or the crankcase breather? Or are they meant to be left alone?

As far as I can remember,one cam cover breather exhausts into the air intake above the turbo.

Not ideal but it does actually work and I've had no issues.

Crank breather I don't know about on the S3 but the Forge does collect a huge amount of oil and other vapour which would otherwise get burnt onto the intake valves.

When my engine was built the valve stems still needed a clean to remove crap from before the catch tank was fitted

Strictly speaking,you're right,but one look at the crap that collects will convince you that it basically is a neccesity.

Audi made a very clever,frugal and powerful engine with relatively low emissions thanks to direct injection and the PCV thing,but as the valve stems no longer see any petrol,the rubbish from the PCV just bakes directly onto the stems.

I've seen the same on RS4 engines and it really was something overlooked in development.

Fair enough,
Only thing thats nagging at me is I took off the pcv valve and found some clean oil, whereas when I took off the crankcase breather pipe (The one on the far right port of the forge plate on cornrattles' pic above) thats the one which is full of black crusty carbon s**t!?

I don't know to be honest but the muck that gets past the PCV is amazing.
