140mph+ Limiter?

Who was that bole now that used to be on here, dave bryeson or sumet like that, he worked put the exact speed a s3 could achieve with the current gearbox that most of us run and the aerodynamics that the s3 has.

Was quite an interesting thread.

The speed I just quoted is the theoretical max that the gearbox ratios could take at 7K and on standard 17's.

Have had an indicated 155 out of a certain persons stage 1 A3 with 3" downpipe and decat on a certain persons private runway. I've also had the same on another persons stripped stage 2 A3 on a similar private runway with the same downpipe and decat.

You had better not be referring to mine!!!

Wow apologies to the mods I didn't realise how old this post was haha

f1 car is very high, but thats due to its need for downforce and has the power and aerodynamics to overcome it because it has such a small frontal area.
the 8l has a drag coefficient of 0.31, same as a citroen ax lol, but also the same as a 911 turbo or lexus lfa. its the actual drag force itself thats pretty high, because its such a fat stubby car and the frontal area is quite big.

you want a calibra with 0.26 :)

Sorry to interject with my usual dose of cynisim, but surely what ultimately governs your top speed is the gearing on the car?
So unless you have:
Removed the rev limiter;
Re-geared the car; or
Fitted tyres with a different rolling circumference
all S3's should in theory eventually max out at very similar top speeds. You might have to take it to Ehra-Lessien to get there, but it in theory will get there eventually. OK, more power/torque might mean you get to Vmax quicker but having 1000bhp won't actually mean you will go any faster.

I appreciate that at the limit the discussions about the engine protecting itself and hence cutting power will mean that in reality some cars won't ever get there.

they run out of power not revs tho in the main...

my badgerwagen is rev limited to its max speed, not power.

Even if the engine didnt limit itself as described earlier, you will still reach a point where the car simply doesnt have enough power to accellerate any more. As the speed climbs, your fighting more and more wind resistance. Eventually you will reach a point where the power the engines producing is only just enough to fight the air resistance, and it just wont go any faster, regardless of the gearing.

i had that issue in my nova, i fitted a diesel box, 5th was so tall it had a higher top speed in 4th!

My private runway made me see over 155 as I stopped looking at the clock and concentrated on the runway!

Haha sounds like me the other night on my private drive....
saw a ****** WRX on it so decided to chase him of my land :)

why apologise for commenting on a thread ? if its still relevant/interesting/useful then i dont see the problem. its the reason every single thread is stored after all.

This was on a stage 1 map and had hit just over 160mph 10 mins before hand on the private road ;) but misses wanted to take a photo being tanked up on her 21st excited as was about to head to the airport to go to Ibiza and this was the second attempt

In fairness from experience the 160 ish top is low to mid 150's by gps

yeh i was just about to say, expect a good 5mph difference from clock speed to gps.
i've only tested my car once on a private strip but the private security got me so never again.
dont matter how fast it goes, its how fast it gets there that matters

I think both matter superK, a car that got to 50mph in 1 second but didn't go any faster would be crap!

Also, as a rule of thumb, those cars with mega high top speeds, will tend to get to the lower speeds (60-100-140) much quicker than most anyway

well when you put it like that! lol.
but im talking in the sense that these cars GO to a decent enough speed, like most sports cars, so acceleration like 0-100 or 30-120 times are more impressive to me, gives a real sense of speed. rather than 'it'l do 150'. freaking diesels can do 150 but dont get there that quick or with any excitement.
i've been asked actually, and i think it was in halfords, which makes it even more funny, 'how fast will that go', i probably replied, 'like it matters', like the **** i am

Cough.

I found this on my "friends" laptop. God knows who it is. :sly:

Abit to come too... Reckon my "friends" car could of done 155ish.

Lol 1st post made me chuckle ''whilst out on my private runway etc'' but cant be too careful about letting on that kind of speed on your private A road at 10pm on a Monday night :)

seems to be a lot of private runways kicking around now. i just use the m6 or m55 as my " private runway "

Ryan's runway is his driveway! Have you seen the size of it? It's bigger than my street!

I suspect that even if you were to say "I did 157mph on the M6 last night" in public, infront of a traffic cop, beside a police station, theres pretty much nothing they could do about it. Without actual evidence, its not provable.

If ofcourse you posted a video online, clearly showing the M6 whizzing by at 157mph, and openly admitted that it was you, THEN you could be in for an *** whooping, as you've provided some actual evidence in the form of the video.

nova ftw! the speedo doesn't go as far so its more impressive looking lol

just to say i openly admitted, on a open forum to doing 140-150 on the m6 with a video clearly showing the m6. Its still not enough to do anything about it they have to prove it was me in the video then i'll be in a word of pain. but anyone can go to youtube and link a video saying " wooo look at me in my supra doing a burn out " making out to be someone there not. but on the other hand if you had a mate filming from a 2ed car and clearly showing your VRN. Then that's just stupid for posting it on youtube. then theres video editing

Little 1.6 VTEC that used to go off the clock:

And one of my old Saab 9000's which were seriously rapid!
