Anyone tempted by Remap yet?

Hi all.

Loving my RS3 ownership so far.
As I am based in Jersey, the only remappers on the island are Revo.
Stage 1 = 410 bhp which sounds tempting.
any thoughts?
 
im sticking with stock, paranoid about loosing my warranty after my original car lunched its engine
 
I've gone down the modding route before. I had an 8L S3 which I spent about £5k on. Did the engine (chip and water cooling), brakes (pads and armoured lines) and suspension (coil overs and adjustable roll bars). It moved the car into a whole new bracket of performance.

Although everyone fixates on the power, the most transformational mods are actually suspension and brakes. Certainly I woudn't just do a chip mod if I was going to do it again.
 
I take it Audi don't accept the MTM upgrade from a dealer franchise - that used to be an offering?
 
My question would be do you feel you need the extra power? Where and when would you use it?

I haven't yet experienced a situation where I've felt the need for more power. I'm confident the RS3 is every bit as quick an Evo 360 I owned a while back and that was running 400/400 in later days. What the RS3 loses in the outright power or power to weight ratio battle the gearbox seems to be able to compensate for (the real world 0-60 and 0-100 times are near identical in my hands), no doubt the more modern tyres also help with more grip.

In pub statistic terms they are of course great numbers and no doubt the car would sound even better with an after market exhaust too but that's a small gain versus the loss of the warranty for me on a £40K+ car.

If I was really desperate to go faster I'd just bite the bullet and buy a GTR instead, but that's just me. I found the GTR just that bit too much for the road so I'm happy I have all the performance I really need.
 
Went into Glasgow Audi yesterday to enquire if they still had the MTM franchise as part of their servicing dept.

They said yes and gave me a price of MTM stage 1 ecu upgrade (remap) which requires the car being off the road for a couple of days as they obviously send the ecu unit away to hav the work done. The map takes the car to 410bhp and I was told TWICE that this would be covered under warranty.

Seriously tempted and could be a little treat next month as car has now done 2.5k miles.

I take it this is only offered at glasgow audi, as my dealer doesn't seem to do it :(
 
@elton121272 The last i heard there is the only one MTM dealer in Scotland (Glasgow). They work inline with Kim at QSTuning (who is the only authorised dealer (MTM) in the UK). If you are going down the MTM route, then i can highly recommend it. My toy was/is done by them and has been for the last 7 years (as in tuned and looked after). I know this is a RS3 thread and i own a S4, but i'm looking into buying the RS3 later in the year (all going well), will be looking at Kim's RS3 first though. Just my pennies worth.

Thansk mate. I'm planning on going in to speaks with the service manager - who I believe is the man in charge of the MTM wing of the business - when he returns from holiday and all being well I'll be going for this......... It is my understanding that the Lomond Audi group has been sold in the last couple of weeks so need to be sure they will underwrite the warranty should I proceed. The prospect of another 75bhp or circa 20%+ increase in throttle response is just too good to miss for a relatively small amount......again all assuming the upgrade is protected under warranty.....otherwise the gain won't outvalue the risk. ......must bring the acceleration down close to supercar level though.......
 
No probs on that. Not heard anything on the Lomond Audi Group but if you are unsure on warranties speak to Kim (01444 451542) as well as he is constantly talking to his local Audi group. An extra 70+bhp and 550Nm torques is going to give your a car a whole new feel :sm4:. Kim's already done a couple of the 472bhp conversions (not to mention his own which is a 442bhp 0-60 in 3.6secs (with launch assist)). I know if i was in your shoes i'd def be doing the upgrade (Friends of mine over the years as soon as they've bought (brand new) their cars have had the ecu modified (well within the first 1000 miles anyway)). If you get it done, let us know what you think. :rockwoot:

It will need to be something in writing on a letterhead to give me absolute confidence that they will honour any claims against a warranty. Can't see them offering an upgrade that invalidates the warranty though as it sort of goes against what they sell but I wil be sure to cover every angle when I go in to seem the Service Manager in a few weeks.

Not considering chipping as car is plenty fast at manuf. speeds but enquired about Milteck exhaust which depending on my insurance I may have it fitted.
 
Not an RS3 owner but have an S3. The MTM deal was still on 2 months ago as a couple of colleagues before they picked their new cars up actually had their S3's delivered over to Glasgow to get the remap done and all paperwork was dealt with by the garage. I know The Lomond Group has now been taken over by Lookers and I havent heard anything to say that they have binned the MTM mapping.

When the ecu is unlocked and not even flashed yet the checksums change, this is visible to your dealer on later ecus but I have never heard of one dealer keeping tabs on what the values are and using this to deny a claim. I have heard in some cases VW flagging cars when this is noticed in diagnostic logs, however not one single instance has been reported to me of a Revo car being flagged nor have I ever heard a flagged car having anything denied. When speaking to a friend of mine who does software through his VW dealer he just said that VW wants to you do your due diligence before they accept a claim but they are not outright denying or even voiding warranties and he had not had one single problem yet.

Sounds like the RS3 and later TTRS have locked ECU's, meaning the ECU has to be removed and unlocked on the bench. Only then can it be mapped inside the car via the OBD port..

I can't see a dealer checking for the checksum results on a standard service. I guess if you had any warranty problems engine/turbo related then you would want to get the ECU locked again before getting the work done. Hassle but better than having to pay for any major work..

Wanna get it mapped asap now, not even had it for a week lol
 
The "unlocking" isn't unlocking as such. The RS3 ECU has some of it's maps in an area of the ECU that is not accessible by the OBD port. Changing this locked section is not detectable without ECU removal.

We keep a full image of the orginal ECU ans so are available to return it to orginal state if needed, with no way of detecting that it has ever been changed.
