I will be ordering the new A3 1.6 TDI S-Line!

I’m ordering it as a company car and after calculating my new tax code and appreciating the impact on my earnings (only £30 a month less than what I lose on the current car!) I’m ready to go head.

Last week the lease company promised me delivery by September but then they did suggest I could get a test drive one in a few weeks! Ha! So I’ll get my order placed and see what delivery times are now being quoted!

The spec I’ve settled on is:
Daytona Grey
Folding wing mirrors
Heated Seats
Electric Lumbar
Privacy Glass
Non-smoking pack
Sports suspension

Now the wait begins…....excited!

Congrats!! :)

Regards company car tax, what's the CO2 like on the 1.6? The brochure doesn't say I don't think.

The government seems to have come down hard on the tax bandings this year, making them far more stringent than before. Luckily it seems the car manufacturers are still beating them at their own game. My last A3 was 157g/km, the current one is 128 but the new one will be 106! This means, despite the list price of the car going up each time, the tax I pay actually goes down!

The lease company say it is 99co2. The last 1.6 TDI was 99co2 (which is what I have now on a 61 plate) so there is a good chance it will be at least 99 co2 or less. Other equivalent cars are less, like the Volvo C30 is 94co2 which for 2013/14 will really protect against the governments changes! My company car before last was 129co2 so I've been really enjoying my current tax code especially on a P11d value of £20K! I'm more than happy to see a little increase on the new order.

The easiest table available for Benefit in Kind is here (remember diesels attract an additional 3%): BMW UK : Corporate Sales - Company car tax - BIK tax bandings

Ah ok. Basically saves 2% on the tax percentage figure over the 2.0TDI then - 13% for this tax year and 14% from next April.

My local Audi and Audi UK said that the 1.6TDI won't be released till January???? How are you going to accept delivery for it in September then?

I've just experienced fear and panic but I'm glad you flagged this potential snag in my plan! I have also spoken to the Audi dealer via my lease company and they say orders can't be placed with the factory until September so they anticipate delivery by end of October. Apparently since the issues with long lead time on the last A3 they have made arrangements so quickly deliver the new model. I am choosing to believe this as my glass if half full! :) My contact did ask if this referred to the 5 door as that has been delayed until next year, I keep getting mixed message, one dealer told me it won't be available for another 18 months!!

I think I'd have to agree that the 1.6tdi won't be available for a while. It definitely looks that way. I would love to proved wrong but I think the lease company is misinformed :-(

I was told can't configurate till at least January/February then take delivery for June time!? So proper shocked that you will have yours in October :(

This is a very interesting situation. The dealership being used is Leeds Audi, so if anybody wants to double check availability by all means. I suppose only time will tell. Phil_w much like you I want this to be true but there is too much telling us the car isn't available until 2013. I'll keep you posted on any progress but clearly I'll only know in September if something isn't right when the order isn't placed.

To be honest I don't see why the 1.6TDI wouldn't be available immediately.

The engine choice at the moment is limited. We know that more engines will become available in due course but, for now, the only ones that have been announced and are in the brochure are the two petrols and the two diesels.

If the 1.6TDI wasn't going to be available from the start, why would they put it in the brochure when other engines which are coming later haven't been?

Vertigo1 sensible as always! It did occur to me that perhaps some dealers have limited ordering capacity with the factory? Like a hierarchy based on their performance. That would explain why some appear to suggest they an place orders with the factory from September, whereas others are quoting next year. When I called Taunton Audi they hadn't even appreciated some dealerships were having an A3 preview whereas Bristol knew all about it and could tell me a whole lot more.

Don't you just love lease companies? Found out today that my order wasn't placed with the dealershop on 19 July, infact it still hasn't been done. I'm trying to keep calm but I know I won't be getting the vehicle in October now (that is if I ever was!). :gun2:

If I was feeling cynical I'd say the lease company didn't know their onions and when they were talking 1.6tdi they were referring to the old shape. Probably realised their mistake when making a move to order and then hoped it would all go away if they ignored it.... :-(

So everybody was right!! I finally got through to somebody who spoke some sense and now I've got a more realistic delivery date for 1.6 TDI......................January 2013!! However that is still good IMHO and again I'm not sure I believe it. I did flag that motoring press still hasn't confirmed the release of the 1.6 but I was told slots were availble. Still annoyed I wasn't told this a few weeks ago.

On another note I heard that the saloon wasn't coming to the UK? I thought I'd hate it but I don't!

According to the model information on ETKA Audi will start production of the 3-door 1.6TDI with a manual gearbox in September 2012 and with an s-tronic gearbox in October 2012. Those dates may only refer to LHD versions of course.

Sorry to hear about your delay.

My order with the lease company was confirmed late July. They gave me an estimated delivery date of 27/10/2012 but, as this was on 27/07/2012, I suspect they just used an estimate of three months.

Have no real clue when it'll actually arrive or when I'll get a more realistic date but I'm not really in any rush. My current car isn't due back until the end of November. If it's later than that I can always hang onto my current car for an extra month or two, or there's an A6 knocking around at work I can pinch temporarily :)

Same thing happened to my missus. She ordered a 1.4 TFSI S-Line and they actually gave her an SE so shes keeping that until the new one arrives. The were willing to give her the new shape 3dr A3 which is all they are making until next year when they will introduce the 5dr. She needs a 5dr so has to take this years model S-line..........I cant see why they are not introducing both 3dr and 5dr together. Makes sense really.

So I missed a call today from Manchester Audi about my car order...........................the suspense of not being able to speak to them until tomorrow is killing me. Who knows what they are calling to tell me but I'll grill them for as much information as I can get about A3 production!!

First customer delivery of 1.6 TDI is expected early November. So it was delayed, why they just didn't confirm that right at the beginning I'll never know. Mine is still scheduled for early January so 3 months to go. Have been debating adding hill assist - anybody got a view? Really excited for all the deliveries, keep posting them people! Not seen one of the road and still waiting for a test drive, although did spend some time with one at the dealership and it is lovely.

By any chance are you dealing with John Kelly at Manchester Audi?
