hi

iv recently stumbled across this forum because iv been having issues with my car. im experiancing a loss of power at 70mph to which the car goes into " limp mode " , upon restarting the car the power is back as such, engine management light stays on though .

i recently took it to a garage to have the fault codes read , they read as follows

p0102-mass air flow low

p0671-cylinder 1 glow plug electrical fault

p0674-cylinder 4 glow plug electrical fault

p0234-boost pressure sensor ( overboost )

p2185-engine temp to high

Through searching through google , iv had spent hours reading up on these faults as such , to which i need advising please .

iv read that a faulty MAF could cause the issues im having with power , but at the same time iv read that " overbosting " can be caused by the vanes in the turbo being blocked , iv recently been to an audi indy to which they told me it would be my turbo & they want to take my turbo off & send it to be reconditioned , then refit it at a price of £700 , this seems to be cheap compared to a new turbo ( around £1000 just for the turbo ).

i suppose my question is , should i go down the route of replacing my MAF & BOOST SENSOR first before getting the turbo reconditioned as i can obtain both sensors from GSP for around £70 and i feel the replacent of these sensors i could do myself .

has anybody any experaince with these faults & what was the outcome ?

the engine temp to high thing , i think its my fans they seem to be working all the time yet the car temp gauage stays half way & never overheats , temp sensor maybe or a new radiator fan ?

thanks in advance

Let us know how you get on with cleaning your turbo.

Looks like its going to save you a small fortune!

:)

I'd do the maff, the way they work they can actually 'burn out', vag do a decent exchange price and the signals it send to ecu can effect boost, if you've got no cold start issues don't worry about heater plugs until you do!

Thanks , Iv got a new MAF sensor , which I will fit on Saturday , gonna go down that route before cleaning the turbo , will keep you posted

You'll have to deal with the turbo anyway if it is overboosting.

So I'm led to Beleive , still not sure on wether to take off the turbo & clean it or just go down the " innotec turbo cleaner route " as Iv read some good reviews on it , Iv been under the car via drive on ramps , checked a the boost pipes & pipes coming from the N75 & if I'm honest It looks like a right headache taking the turbo off , even with the guide on here .

Decisions , decisions , decisions lol

I just want my cars pull back again without re-mortgaging my house lol

Was speaking to an Audi specialist yesterday & he told me to do a circuit of the m60 motorway in 3rd gear , apparently the exhaust gases will be that hot they will clear the turbo :/ . If my turbo is clogged surely this will just blow it to bits !!!!

go down the innotec or mr muscle route! quick and easy, if it doesnt work then go and get the turbo taken off and swapped! you may as well forget about a recon turbo and just get a hybrid one for that money.

With all respect, from a socalled audi specialist, thats a stupid thing to tell someone thats already got overboost issues, it could blow the turbo & then you're in a world of poo as oil will go into exhaust, IC piping, possibly get all way through to the IM with metal parts of the turbo, do it properly.

That is only a temp job & only delays the inevitable, if he has overboost issues & its the vanes that are sticking, no way it will clean the grime of, as I've stripped a few & requires a dremel or the like to remove all that heat burned on soot down to the metal again, but I agree if you're removing, clean it up, sell on & then buy hybrid.

I feel taking it off & cleaning it properly is the way forward , it's just a headache because it's on the back side underneath the block , I'm pretty good with my hands & Iv got all the tools , I suppose it's better than forking out for somebody else to do it , I'm going to get it sorted ttomorow , give it a full day to do , no rushing at it. Iv Only got drive up ramps so it's going to be tight & the oil pipe bothers me :(

You need new copper nuts, gasket & some wd40 if some bolts/nuts are stiff.

Its probably a 5 hour job, but thats only if everything comes of easily.

im going to go down the mr muscle route for now , i may be getting rid of the car , so i take it i unbolt the exhaust from the turbo & spray it in there using a peice of pipe & cover with paper/cardboard , once sprayed i moved the acuator arm to free the carbon build up aswell as spining the turbine backwards , leave for one hour, then re-assmeble exhaust and take it for a spin ?

do i need to remove the pipe at the bottom of the actuator & also what about the air system pipework , the in/out ?

I dont ever do the temp fix, so wouldnt want to advise this tbh.
