On Saturday night I had just come from a massive multimeet mostly jap stuff but a few of us decided to roll down there in our vag stuff and represent... as you do. I promptly left at 945pm to catch the Haye fight, and what a good decision that turned out to be. So as I drove 3 mates and I down town to continue to evening I was on a high, good fun meet, Haye winning and it was actually a good fight... BUT OH NO... I pulled into a little side road for my friends to get cash out and there was this Taxi sat in the middle of this road obviously waiting for someone - there was no way past or around, it's a one way street. I flash my lights, a bit of banter is thrown round the car and then to my horror I see the reverse lights come on in front of me and before I could even honk THUD straight into my bumper... I'm straight out absolutely livid (not proud of it) f ing and blinding c*** etc etc.. we take a look at the damage - my headlight washer had popped out and other than that you couldn't see much but the taxi driver almost tries to get away saying there's nothing there and starts to prod and feel my bumper... I go mad at him saying don't wipe anything off etc... i then proceed to take photos and take his details.. Ahmed someone ...
Get to a carpark to assess the damage under lights as i could feel an indentation of his bumper in mine. And to be fair there's not an awful lot of damage just a small scuff and the dent. However this was part of the bumper I'd just had resprayed due to someone scuffing it in a carpark and not leaving any details. Working in the trade I estimate it's about 50-60 quids worth (to me!) Anyway I continue my night out and try to forget about it. This was Saturday night.
Sunday comes and i go out into daylight to assess it some more. It's as i expected and saw the previous night, no more nasty surprises... You'd think.. I ring the taxi company (a famous local one) to sort it all out only to be told that all the taxi drivers are self employed and arrange their own insurance... And no they cannot give me details even though I have the car rteg, what car it is, the drivers full name and the taxi company details.. They can only give details out to the Police.
I decide the best course of action is to write a letter addressed to him by name but c/o the taxi company asking him to get in touch and provide me his insurance details or i'll be forced to get the police involved and go through all that rigamarole. Please bare in mind the first thing he said to me when he got out was 'sorry I didn't see you' - complete admittance of fault and acceptance of blame. Anyway this brings me to today as i had no time to write the letter until now. By this stage I'm thinking in my head I have no idea if he's even given me his real name etc...
Just before I post the letter, being a weekday i ring up the taxi co. one last time just to be a bit more firm and see if i can get any further. I get through to someone who takes my name and number and says a manager will call me tomorrow (wed). SO i don't post the letter and think well okay maybe this time someone will actually want to help sort out this mess. Just as I'm leaving work I get a call - it's the taxi co. manager taking the details of the driver in question and saying she will get him to contact me asap. I'm like well this is promising... and all after being told they can't do anything on Sunday. moral - always ring more than once !
I go to my bro's work to pic him up and start tinkering away at the LED interior lights I need to fit whilst waiting for him. They're all in and working now which is a plus. I'll post pics in the thread for that later when it gets dark. Whilst I'm on back under the door doing the puddle lights - what a pita! My mob goes off mid tinker... I'm like *** who could this be.. It's only the bloomin taxi driver and after a brief chat we agree not to go through insurance and for the trouble he'll pay me £100 tomorrow and I also have more details on him and his mob no. I told him where I work and to ring me tomorrow. So all being well it's sorted but what a palaver!
