On Saturday night I had just come from a massive multimeet mostly jap stuff but a few of us decided to roll down there in our vag stuff and represent... as you do. I promptly left at 945pm to catch the Haye fight, and what a good decision that turned out to be. So as I drove 3 mates and I down town to continue to evening I was on a high, good fun meet, Haye winning and it was actually a good fight... BUT OH NO... I pulled into a little side road for my friends to get cash out and there was this Taxi sat in the middle of this road obviously waiting for someone - there was no way past or around, it's a one way street. I flash my lights, a bit of banter is thrown round the car and then to my horror I see the reverse lights come on in front of me and before I could even honk THUD straight into my bumper... I'm straight out absolutely livid (not proud of it) f ing and blinding c*** etc etc.. we take a look at the damage - my headlight washer had popped out and other than that you couldn't see much but the taxi driver almost tries to get away saying there's nothing there and starts to prod and feel my bumper... I go mad at him saying don't wipe anything off etc... i then proceed to take photos and take his details.. Ahmed someone ...

Get to a carpark to assess the damage under lights as i could feel an indentation of his bumper in mine. And to be fair there's not an awful lot of damage just a small scuff and the dent. However this was part of the bumper I'd just had resprayed due to someone scuffing it in a carpark and not leaving any details. Working in the trade I estimate it's about 50-60 quids worth (to me!) Anyway I continue my night out and try to forget about it. This was Saturday night.

Sunday comes and i go out into daylight to assess it some more. It's as i expected and saw the previous night, no more nasty surprises... You'd think.. I ring the taxi company (a famous local one) to sort it all out only to be told that all the taxi drivers are self employed and arrange their own insurance... And no they cannot give me details even though I have the car rteg, what car it is, the drivers full name and the taxi company details.. They can only give details out to the Police.

I decide the best course of action is to write a letter addressed to him by name but c/o the taxi company asking him to get in touch and provide me his insurance details or i'll be forced to get the police involved and go through all that rigamarole. Please bare in mind the first thing he said to me when he got out was 'sorry I didn't see you' - complete admittance of fault and acceptance of blame. Anyway this brings me to today as i had no time to write the letter until now. By this stage I'm thinking in my head I have no idea if he's even given me his real name etc...

Just before I post the letter, being a weekday i ring up the taxi co. one last time just to be a bit more firm and see if i can get any further. I get through to someone who takes my name and number and says a manager will call me tomorrow (wed). SO i don't post the letter and think well okay maybe this time someone will actually want to help sort out this mess. Just as I'm leaving work I get a call - it's the taxi co. manager taking the details of the driver in question and saying she will get him to contact me asap. I'm like well this is promising... and all after being told they can't do anything on Sunday. moral - always ring more than once !

I go to my bro's work to pic him up and start tinkering away at the LED interior lights I need to fit whilst waiting for him. They're all in and working now which is a plus. I'll post pics in the thread for that later when it gets dark. Whilst I'm on back under the door doing the puddle lights - what a pita! My mob goes off mid tinker... I'm like *** who could this be.. It's only the bloomin taxi driver and after a brief chat we agree not to go through insurance and for the trouble he'll pay me £100 tomorrow and I also have more details on him and his mob no. I told him where I work and to ring me tomorrow. So all being well it's sorted but what a palaver!

Fair play to you mate. Just shows if you stand your ground & dont take any bull**** you can get a good result.

Yeah i know what ya mean. Good thing is you have his phone number now & he's pretty much admitted liability, something that is normally impossible to get from a taxi driver (so called professional drivers).

Goodluck mate! My missus had a guy in a Rangerover go into the side of her a few years back, guy admitted liability etc., I got a quote of £250 for a cheap repair, and that's all I wanted off the guy! Did he turn up at the meeting point to hand over this money, no he didn't! This was followed up with a trip to the police station and an insurance claim that went on for 14 months! But all was good,I got a £1300 cash payout and kept the car, as I refused it to be written off for the light damage!

The Taxi driver would be an idiot not to give you 100 quid and be done with it!

My neighbour told me a skip lorry swiped my car with a big yellow skip whilst picking it up from outside my house. I looked at a nasty bit of damage and phoned the skip company. The skip was still there with the phone number! The manager denied any responsibility, said that none of his skip drivers did it, and goodbye. Before he hung up, I told him I had a witness, and I was about to call the police. He asked me to hold, then a minute later said "oh that car, yes we would rather sort it out for cash if that's ok. Get us 2 quotes etc. All sorted, paid in full, car repaired no problem.

A dozy woman once reversed into me whilst trying to get out of a barriered car park. Instead of going in shes decides to reverse out not knowing I was waiting behind her. Her car had a towbar on it which created alot of damage. So I went and got 2 quotes for her, took all her details including insurance company etc etc and thought it would all be sorted. Turns out she had given me her maiden name so her insurance company replied by saying 'we have no one under that name insuring that car'
Having a dad in the Police worked a treat as he did a PNC check on the vehicle which came up with the bints new married name and address. Imagine her surprise when she opened the door and there was me with 2 quotes for her..........1 week before Xmas too.....ouch. She quickly paid me as I threatened to phone the Police about the incident.

Cash is now in my hand, bumper needs a bit of filler as well as respraying so it's 65 quid. 35 quid spare tho. sorted.

Sorry Josh, thats me just got round to reading this. Glad you got the mney to sort out your car though :) x

Good work mate, but I don't consider it as £35 profit. You are only £35 up as you are in the trade and do the work yourself, it would have been a £150 job for myself, so I'd consider it a £50 loss. But so long as you're happy and all that. :icon_thumright:

would have been £78 quid to you mate it's 65 plus vat - we don't get special treatment for being in the trade! Just pay no VAT. and cash in hand the guy jus does it no VAT etc. so still £22 up! :p
