Water Ingress into Footwell

Hi All
I have an 04 Audi s4 Cabriolet, lately I have been suffering with water coming into the driver's side footwell (only) I have had to scoop the water out on a regular basis (up to 3 pints once).
The water appears to occur when it has rained quite hard, I have had the gutter channels under the battery checked and this is all clear and working. It appeared the 1st time when I drove through a very deep puddle which came up to the cill, the next day it was flooded. The water always appears to be a dirty grey colour (this maybe the colour of the carpet running)

I took it to my Audi dealer and they wanted £300 just to detect the fault!! (very helpful as usual).

Can anybody help me with my dilemma

try your door / window seal,
the pasenger side is the moste comon affected with water when the plenum chambers are blocked, but theres no reasom i can think of that meen your driver side wont get wet too, is everything under the bonet ok. no holes where a rubber plug or bung as i call them is missing??
just a thought, hope you sort it

p.s. is your seat or the dash wet?

Ok, I have an Audi Cab and very recently had the same problem. Things to do;

Watch this 1999 Audi A6 Water Leak DIY Tutorial - YouTube its for an A6 but very similar.

However mine turned out to be neither. Water would enter my car through the apperture seal, a seal that runs down the side of the windscreen, past the hinge of the door and along the driver side sill. Squeeze this seal and feel for water.

Hi saxonblue, That was the 1st thing I had checked and all was good there. No the seat and dash are dry so it's not a roof leak if that's what you were thinking. Thanks for your reply

That sounds like it might be the solution as my door rubber has been worn away by the previous owners dragging their feet whilst getting in the car. Looking at this seal there is water in the cavity of the rubber when it rains quite hard.

Right imagine two straws laying next to eachother, this is what that seal looks like in simple terms.

Ok, follow the seal down to the drivers sill plate. Lift it off the body work and look at the underside, you will see two holes which are there as an over flow drain (in one straw). Put something sharp in the hole and pierce the rubber on the other straw. DONT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH, YOU WILL PIERCE BOTH STRAWS!

After I read it I was slightly confused by myself,I will explain again;

The apperture seal ressembles two rubber straws laying next to eachother. One rubber straw (straw A) has two holes in it to let water flow out, however the second straw (straw B) is the one which is full of water and is leaking into the cabin.


Get a sharp object and access straw B through the holes already there in straw A, pierce straw B and water will flow out.


I dont know if that is any clearer? sorry if it isn't
