Brads A4 2.0 TQS build thread

Cheers mate the car drives so much better now it just puts the power down better and is more responsive, no more sloppy drivetrain but alot more vibration at low speed and more noise at high speeds sounds great when giving it some ive had the radio off all weekend just listening to that screaming 1.8T.

Do you get any clunks from the rear diff now?

I had to take my solid rear diff mount off, as it was just too harsh. Every gearshift resulted in a harsh metallic clank from the rear end.

Result mate, sounds like you are enjoying the improvements. The mounts take a few miles to settle in so the noise/vibration should reduce slightly but it sounds like you are enjoying it lol

No clunks from the rear end at all ive left the centre diff mount standard for now and just done the carrier ones, but its a big improvement will tackle the engine mounts and centre diff in the near future.

Well pics as promised

Just waiting on some bumper grills and need to get a little bump out of the bumper which shouldnt be to much hassle and thats the front done with. Just cant believe that it was the exact colour of my car few scuffs and so on but hey its about 10 years old lol.

Not updated for awhile

newest mods are valve cover, icm delete and E type bolt down coils

Huge difference would recommend it cost was roughly £100, next is manifold and turbo doug has manifold shipped out and will be ordering the F21 upgrade with my next available funds

pic of the cracked manifold

The F4 still working then?

My clone mani did the same, seems to be how any aftermarket one goes. Have you got the lower support bracket fitted?

Yep still working just the spool has changed dramatically due to the leaky manifold the coils have helped it out a little swapped the plugs from bosch super 4's to bkr6e's, boost seems to drop of a little quicker than it used to, just cant wait now ive cured the 'load' misfire to slap the F21 on.

oh and i have a steering rack in the boot to go on as the steering is a little to light part number ends in 710a iirc and is off a x reg TQS so has no damper so hopefully is more tighter as the rack i originally put on was off a 96'.

Oh yeah i have the lower bracket installed im thinking off making a upper one of the valve cover like the cossies use

Great idea. Most manifolds crack because of a lack of support.

PSi Concept manifolds have also cracked here and there although they have lifetime warranty.

Any one now were the two copper washers go i have in this kit are they for the rear calipers male ends i take it ???

between caliper and hose on mine
makes removing them much easier and stop Alu vs Steel reaction

Nothing major but dougs replacement manifold has arrived and i gotta away from the import duty aswell which i was dreading when i ordered it so toatlly hassle/penny free

New shiney manifold

going to order F21 upgrade at end of jan and slap them on at same time.

also removed the centre diff mount and hate to admit it but bodged it lol i filled it with loctite silicone gasket sealer and then through 4 tyre valves in the voids just to stiffen it up abit and its worked for now lol will eventually get the apikol as i want a new shiney one !!!

When i first installed the kit looking at it i thought thats gunna be a **** but tbh it wasnt that bad. Just patience is needed tightening most of the nuts by quarter turns.

Well bit of a late update on progress so far no particular order but here goes thought id keep all progress updated and stop cluttering with new threads etc -

replaced cracked manifold which was s nightmare to get off as the copper nuts just wanted to round with a spanner so i had to used a carbide grinder bit thing to grind slots in the manifold to allow access with a socket but got there in the end, also did a bit of porting with the carbide bit on the runners as best i could and at the collector been on for a while now and is still crack free just one off the bolts keeps coming loose ive tried a copper crush washer but no joy, any suggestions i guess loctite wont work ??

Fitted a non-res milltek system thanks to B5QUAT we agreed i get a new downpipe for my old system as it was shot and £100 and my system and i do the swap, so thats what i did on my back on freezing cold concrete wasnt pleasant about 2-3 hours later iirc lol

ive fitted my S4 Side skirts eventually and Facelift S4 rear bumper, debadged the boot and swapped rings for gloss black ones and a new quattro decal, blacled out front grill and light smoke tinted front lights (also replaced with OEM xenons before tinting) and side repeaters, pics

Thats pretty much all i can think off at the minute.

youll all be glad to no ive ordered my replacement F21 CHRA and Comp housing off doug today $180 shipped !!

so bit of a top off the to do list -

replace gearbox (have jcb's old one to go in)
Replace the F4 CHRA for the F21 upgrade
S4 B6 alloys or if i change my mind to a different 18" set of wheels
S4 Facelift 300mm rear upgrade (just need B6 S4 lines, new discs and pads)
S4 B6 345mm front brake upgrade (just B6 S4 lines, disc and pads, have uprights again off jcb, have calipers sorted if the guy is still holding them for me)

Also im tempted on setting the wastegate actuator to 10psi, 3" maf, injectors and a de immo'd AGU ecu till im ready for a map, what do you gurus think is this wise ?????

I just havent got the time or money to do it, when i move house (again only been 6 months since we last moved lol, luckily its only round the corner and not a new area as we need a 3 bed as the little one will be here feb 2014) if our spplication goes through on this house i will have a garage so i dont have to play beat the clock at work i may consider it !!

whats involved (in brief) to do the conversion ??

also would my plan be good enough on the standard AGU ecu ?? Will i need a FMIC or can i run on stock for time being ??

Last edited:
When i first installed the FT i was getting a peak of 14psi and a steady 12-10psi i was just thinking of setting it to 10psi instead of the 7 or 8psi its set at now ?? But im thinking with it being a 150hp agu ecu wont it control it to 6psi ??

Well not much as progress but just getting a few things ready for brake conversion !!

got some facelift S4 calipers of CJ over on srs (£75 posted) one needs a new piston boot which will be here on tuesday you get 2x seals and 2x boots in the kit so going to do both whilst there off !!

Well today ive been off work so thought id go in and swap my gearbox's over all went well and no more notchiness in 1st/2nd gear when i pulled off theres was no whining through 1/2/3 gears, after driving home at low speeds its got a little whine only when taking up drive in 1/2 gears is this just normal as i have no DMF fitted and track gearbox mounts so its more noticable ??

anyway few pictures as always lol

Box out swapping a few bits over ready to go back in !!

hes not sent the little brake pipes and brackets for the calipers emailed him to see if he cant post them out to me !!

Will get them cleaned up and painted when back at work so more pics to come lol

Nice brakes - B6 S4 brakes are night and day compared to any previous caliper.

They will be once i get some 18's as i doubt they will go under my 17" boleros, im leaning towards some 18x8 bbs lm reps in ET35 i no there common as muck but ive gone slightly off the B6 S4 Avus alloys will see whats available when ready to order some !!

they fit under standard 17" Boleros, but you'll need a spacer.

I tried mine on my brothers with his 15mm spacer and they went on fine, you could perhaps drop to a 10 or 12 but you'd need to try it.

Those rs4 style wheels I got are 18x8 et45 and there is loads of room behind them for big calipers, I have a set of brembo 4 pots from an evo I'm going to see how much work is needed to fit them, hopefully just a case of fabbing up some brackets

To test fit them im thinking of bolting one of them to the S4 upright off the car and trying the wheel over them will i need a 345mm disc on the hub or could i use one of my 312mm discs or even use no disc ??

To test fit I'd use a disc, won't matter the size as long as the offset is te same and the caliper fits over it without fouling the disc
