My Rather Slow S3 minor modding thread!

I'd go to VW mate. Audi take the **** on prices for the same parts. The guy at VW gives me trade most of the time. Don't need the bottle. I'm on about the housing...

Put your tongue away haha

Sam i ordered 2housings for the coolant temp sensor im not sure if BAM and AMK engines are the same mate.... but i have to of them .. ill try to put pictures of the one i dont need, if its work on your car then its yours ( no charge )

tthats the one im using ...

little update, ive order all the bushes for the S3 powerflex ones , i recieved my H&R ARB and Podi Guage.. ill put up pics later hopefully

and just ordered from Damian @ DPM Bilstein B14's so many thanks to him for giving me a very nice price. thanks mate

ive also been thinking of getting a B5 tip as it will be a few months after my engine build that i change the turbo and its manifold...give me a few horses to drag me along :p

Totally - I found that out ages ago. Audi take the **** on the exact same parts. That and the VW parts guys (at Chatswood) are legends. Always friendly and helpful. They even threw in the o-ring for the temp sensor.

Seemingly leak free (for now) !

Ive found the VW guys in Artarmon to be really helpful. They let me test fit a brake switch on my car before i handed any money over, and just trusted me to come back inside the dealer and pay for it when I was done. And wasn't like I parked in eye sight of the place or anything, they were just friendly and trustworthy people.

I've also contacting the local Audi parts a couple of times and found them completely useless. They don't know the answer to my questions and don't bother calling me back, when I request quotes. Plus, you have to pay a premium.

IMO, vw dealers all the way!

my guys at five dock his name is also Sam lol but they are great and knock of $$ of the price but still isnt cheap they return my calls too... ut yeah they arent cheap.

seems like vw artarmon is the place to go :p

got a qoute for our amk engine short block 27k for it i wanted to see the cost lol... must say it was funny

David (the old fella) and Danny (the younger guy) are nice blokes. David sorts me out trade prices sometimes, depending on what it is.

One of the guys on here works there (in the servicing department). Used to see his black S3 parked out the front. It has Porsche calipers. I sold him a part recently. Can't remember what mind you haha

now thats a first.. cant remember what you sold him lol... thanks mate if i go there to order some parts ill let them know you referred me :p

little update the pillar pod arrived today from Japan, pretty quick shipping mind you. now the hard part comes to fitting it as i have no idea how to remove the pillar.. nor do i know which wires (electrical ) ineed to connect it to.. im assuming ill have to smolder them together too aye ?

reduced viability as in how ? as Lorryz said damn navigator takes up more space..

would anyone know how to remove the pillar as im quite clueless and trying to see where to smolder the damn wires. OBD switch probably ?

Its a bit fiddly, basically I removed mine with a big flathead screwdriver, just pried it off.

Its held on by 4 metal tabs that click into the A-pillar, so the only real way of getting it off is by pulling.

wow okay any chance i could break it or so ?

Its one of those BS rule where they can nick you, if they want to.

- it cant block one of the front imaginary corners of the car
- it cant block the dials
- and you cant have exposed hoses, encase it sprays oil over the windscreen.

pretty much, the most legal place to have it is in the air vent.

If your careful, no. I will try to get a picture up for you.

thanks mate ... well the hoses will be inside the pillar so thats a no...

and it wont hide the dials another NO

imagery of the corner of the other not entirely sure about that but i have loads of ppl with pods on and they never get booked so no idea...

now my next step is to manage as to how to wire it to the car's loom..

Ok, so there are 3* of these metal 'A' shaped clips in the back of my spare drivers pillar.

They slide out of the pillar if you slide the pillar upwards. But I found this impossible inside the car.

So I pried it off with a flathead, No damage to the pillar or trim.

Ah thanks mate so they are in the middle of the A pillar... great that will be a challenge

Yeah, I was just regurgitating what remember reading.

I know the Aus spec s15 had the A pillar boost gauge taken off to meet ADR.

But then everyone runs them anyway. As I said earlier, its a bit of a grey area.

yeah true... its not fun in OZ to even own a car... they are very daft... but i guess you need ridiculous rules for bad drivers like we have here :p

so had some issue with fitting the gauge into the pod itself due to this little piece (below) so i took it out and attached the hose directly to it though not sure if it will affect anything.. thats the 90degree piece...

in the end i thought id just attach it directly....

small update.. got all the powerflex bush kits, H&R sway bar, LCR top mounts with bearing and some b14's.. and they are being fit by Seb at euro automotive im hopping to get her back on tuesday and ill post some pics up... very knowledgeable guy he is with a nice Golf R...

ive also decided with the help of Seb to go for a GTX3071R to reduce the lag...

next up will be changing synchro's on the box and shove a quaife LSD in there with a carbon 4-6 puck clutch and carbon plate.. should make things interesting

then will be the FMIC finally

i also fitted the SFS coolant hose kits so that fitted fine but one hose... i think it might be best to wait for the forge kit if it comes anytime soon..they gave me 2 of the same pipes so that was FAIL.

He's a good guy isn't he? I should be getting his site up soon.

His Golf R is awesome. Just bolt on mods (nothing crazy either) and he has it into the 11s! Mad.

Did you purchase it through Euro auto, or are you just getting it fitted?

I'm looking to get some similar work done.

i got it from the UK shipped paid 203 pounds for the LCR top mounts / and powerflex bush kit for the whole car

H&R think was 240- or 340 cant remember

and the b14 i paid 700 pounds shipped for DPM the rest from awesome gti.. talk to mike he will sort you out he gave me a discount on the bushes.

yeah he is a good guy.. me think he works too much.. but yeah good guy.. he told me you were doing his website.. and ill be discussing with him the build when i pick her up.. i think Seb and Custom Recode (mark) will be doing the work..funny he also mentioned Badger5 to get the custom turbo manifold and DP... i was like hmm ill have to ask if will do it...

btw i like his GTI that is in the low 11's with a ko4 pretty crazy, though i think he should finish his S3.. i mean the way it is atm is VERY sad!

Yeah he's not got much left to do to finish the S3 but as you can imagine, he struggles to find time between customers cars... That will be a a monster when finished. He's offered me the engine out of it (he wants to build an all alloy engine) but I think it's overkill for me by a long shot.

lol yeah he was telling me..he is all about weight reduction. offered me the R32 shell to build up keep the S3 on the road as it is quite clean not track.. which is abit sad

Why's it sad? It's an awesome shell (prepped by VW Australia). If you were intending on fitting a GT35, he probably thought you weren't building a road car :)

well i was.. though the problem i was facing is turbo lag... with the it boost at 4,500 to 5k RPM .. plus revving the engine longer higher will diminish the engine and probably need another build... and concerning the race tracks we have here in Oz. the gt35 will more or less be quite useless...and concerning that point he made sense, so a gtx3071 will spool up like a gt35 and i get more torque and boost at lower RPM levels that the only reason i choose to take that directions... its no fun without boost:p

Yeah that's what I was trying to tell you before. A GT35 would be a bit large for a road car, even with a 2.0. It all gets way more expensive when you're looking at higher rpms and cylinder pressures etc. Wear and tear is increased too.

lol thanks.. took me time i though i could boost at around 3k rpm .. i know vastly optimistic...

little update MY CLUTCH is GONE yeyyyyy!!! this is so screwed i uprate something... something else goes bust.. but hey Seb said the car was quite clean besides that ****** issue...

Ah no way :( I get the odd bit of judder which is an early hint I guess. It'll be out soon anyway...

Yep it will.. well i got my car corner balance and alligned with a 30mm drop.. its sitting nice, needing some spacers as it looks slightly weird..but the car drives reallly smoothly its ****** great!!!

Sam ill be trying AwesomeGti's Clutch Kit.. comes with a SMF, 480ft/lb torque rated clutch + plate (iirc) and all the bolts and the slave.. at 723pounds shipped its not bad considering it can handle that much and you average DMF here is 1K + lol

oh and my after run pump is BUST quite awesome...

Ill also be getting a new box fitted with a quaife LSD so Seb will be sorting all that out

then its parts collections started with the Turbo and Fuel system :D cant wait.

by the way Sam i remember on your thread you were talking about service...WELLLL!!!! Seb had the car for 4 days so he offered to drop me and pick me up from work at 2AM!!! handed me the car.. had a chat and off i went! crazy stuff and the car is so clean tooo!

you could literally run your hand on the subframe and you'd not get a spec of tar on it!

btw Lorryz i was wondering mate with these new headlight globes you got.. they good quality or you reckon they will die out?

They should be alright, there meant to be pretty high quality for the price.
I'm loving mine so far, but I will be keeping my old bulbs, just in case.
