No temp gauage movement after EGR Delete - Normal??

To add to the small amount of problems i am having with my 19.tdi (110) i discovered another last night, but i am sure i have read somewhere this is normal.

Since blanking off my EGR i have noticed the temp gauge does not move, alright it has not exactly been warm up norf, but surely it must move a little.

Is this normal ???

If not, you'll likely need a new thermostat.

Yeh it would always get to 90c then drop back to 60c depending on conditions, but was always around the 90c mark.

Could this cause my limpmode?

if your temp is dropping from running temp, surely a new thermostat or a temp sensor would sort that out.

have you scanned the car with vagcom to see if there are any faults.

Fit a new thermostat and see how things go. Your sensor is probably fine.

It does not move from 60c, not had chance to scan it as my mate is waiting for his new lead to come

mate as the guys told you its 99% your thermostat or that temp sensor... the temp sensor is an easy fit .. the thermostat change is a pain but can be done in 30mins with the right tools and is fiddly.. i think we have a how to some where on the forum or stickies.

Everyone fits a new sensor because its easier, personally i've never had a sensor fail, but i've had numerous thermostats die.

The stat is also cheaper, so do that first!

Fecking typical!!

Was out in me car for about 5 hours yesterday (in the warm northern sun) and guess what!

I sat in traffic and the temp gauge came upto 90c, then couple of mins later, fans kicked in back down to 60c again

the trouble is that its so brittle. you will see what i mean when you change the stat. a replacment from ebay costs 3.10 and took 2 days to arrive so not a big deal. its just annoying to sort one problem and make another.

Right!!

New Thermostat on, found rad was leaking so that has been replaced to.

Temp gauge went upto about 70c and then back down below 60c, that was about it.

Drove to work this morning, over 40 miles in 18c - 19c, sat in traffic for half hour, temp gauge still didnt move!!

  • 17664 - Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit (G62): Open / Short to B+
    
    Possible Symptoms
  • Difficulties with starting a cold engine.
    • Diesel: an indication is extreme long time burning time of the glow indication light.
  • Starting the engine when engine is warmish or warm, idle rpm immediately is 1200 - 3000 rpm.
  • RPM at idle is irregular.
  • With all engine temperatures seldom idle rpm will vary between 900 - 1000 rpm.
  • With engine warm (90 °C) the engine temperature suddenly drops (70 °C) and slowly comes back to 90 °C.
  • Bad acceleration during warming up.
• Wiring and/or connections faulty
• Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) faulty

Ordered a new one, should be ere Tuesday!!

Coolant sensor fitted last night.

Temp gauge back to normal.
