hi
does anyone know if i need a different sump cover if you change from a chain driven unit to a geard unit?
thanks

What do you mean by sump cover?

When Audi convert the chain driven oil pump balance shaft assy to a geared unit they fit a new sump /sump cover to accomodate the new assembly. The existing sump/sump cover will not fit over the new geared assembly.

******, more bits to buy. I'm trying to gather the bits together to do the conversion, I love the car to bits and I'm not letting an issue like this dishearten me and being an ex truck mechanic and my mate having his own vehicle lifts it's not going to be hard to do.

If you trawl through the "sticky" on the 2.0tdi oil pump/balance shaft issues you will find people have posted lists of the parts needed to do the conversion.
Its a LONG list so be warned.

The new sump cover is only needed when replacing the chain driven oil pump /balance shaft assembly for a geared unit.
I guess you were replacing the geared unit on a like for like basis, hence you didn't need a new sump cover.

This is the part number for the new sump, V03G 103 603h Oil Pan at £92.01p
The price being from late 2011 when I had my car fixed by Audi Teesside.

i had the chain driven pump swapped for a gear driven one-the sump went on with no problem.
i did ask a few indipendents about this and all said it didnt need a new sump-as i said maybe its a main dealer thing-squeezing all they can!
