as an a4 fan i test drove the above today! what a proper nice little car! thinking about getting the wife one! im 6ft 2" and found it big enough for me! not the quickest of diesels but no slouch ethier! really impressed!

I would second that view too. I have an S3 but looking for efficiency and just can't seem to stray away from the Audi brand. :icon_thumright:

Very impressed with its pulling ability considering that the A1 is not actually that much smaller footprint on the outside.

Probably will need to try a small petrol, but the zero road tax may be the deciding factor. It was not as noisy as many had said either, OK its not got 4WD which I instantly loved getting back into my S3, but I was not as miffed making the move especially with the MPG gauge on comparing the two its no contest.

Tried the Sport trim which I prefer the look of over the S-line; body kit and no ummph under the bonnet seems pointless to me.

20 notes is hardly a bank buster for the 2.0 TDI, food for thought:salute:

Certainly, although I wonder what the extra weight does for the handling which I found to be surprisingly neutral on the 1.6. My problem will be the toys... There is a nice big options list and given how much traffic I find I am sat in these days prefer that as money well spent compared to a bigger engine, besides it not like I haven't had powwweeeerr before. :racer:

From what i have been reading, the heavier unit does effect handling slightly compared to the 1.6 but not enough to worry about.

I currently own an A3 2.0TDI and i'm happy with the handling, i test drove an A1 2.0TDI BE and thought it was great for my driving. As for MPG, again from what i have been reading, it's roughly on a par with the 1.6TDI due to it having the extra gear:racer: I can get 50MPG on a 5.5 mile commute to work in the A3:thumbsup:

Well i'm going to try the 2.0 TDI to see for myself. :salute:

As to the extra gear, the torque and the grading on the 1.6 actually didn't need one, getting to 90 was only around 2500-2600 rpm which is not far of the S3 in 6th, mind I didn't launch up the sliproad nor go hunting for a 7th when iIgive the S3 wellly. Thats been a problem for ages I just want to keep changing up a gear...

Noted for the 2.0TDI that its likely to match, certainly the figures in the brochure (allowing for a conservative 20% deduction) are not too dissimilar. Theres that balance of working a small engine vs a larger one plus the weight and an extra gear.

Now then about the comment, 50MPG, is that err, foot nestled in the shag pile, or gentleman cloth cap driving style? I took the 1.6 on a 10 mile round trip, motorway, lanes and the back up a motorway hill section and was please to see over 50MPG. Given my current monster it was nice to see.

What may do if for me is that I'm after a specific colour this time and probably will go approved then get a third party to spec it up after, there are no 2.0TDI sportbacks around that are approved which that will likely dictate my chosen weapon of choice, mainly as discounts seem to be thin on the ground. So why waste money when you can get one in pukka condition with 5K miles on it?

Definitely gentlemen cloth cap, but keeping up with the flow of traffic. Putting it another way, not much will overtake me when i'm on the dual carriage way:eyebrows:

What colour are you looking for?

What sort of starting issues?

I've just ordered one:confused:

Seems like most A1 2.0 tdi have a starting issue
It's like the glow plugs aren't working
Audi are aware and apparently working on a solution

A-ha I have had my thrill in my past S3's, now due for one last swansong from Lands End to John O'groats starting later this week then will pick up my A1 from a dealer before the month end. Pretty much agreed on price for a pre-registered one. I'll be getting a 1.6 (no road tax) Sport sportback in Misano red with black roof with a few extras including cruise and HDD sat nav with Bose as well. :yum:

Would have liked full leather but it seems silly to buy new and pay extra so I decided on nearly new, after all Audis have the whole VAG parts bin in them and my 8L (water pump and coil) 8P (clutch cylinder) experiences very few issues which were sorted under warranty as the forum help point out common issues very quickly. :icon_thumright:

Yeah, I enjoyed it! 7 days of 6-7 hours a day in the car, it was a great finale. And the roads in Scotland, well, they are just a peach, with so many that I would be all day giving them a mention. Better still, everyone seemed to be in London watching olympics so I had hours of pleasure, then low and behold when I arrived at John O'Groats I found another sprint blue S3 in the car park and stuck mine right next to it.:friends:

Had a day on the motorway with the new one yesterday back home from Newcastle Audi and whilst it's not an S3, it sure is an Audi in all other areas, very impressed. Also saved a packet getting a nearly new car that was pre-owned by the Audi training centre, used by new salesman trainees to go on test drives with the 'customer' (instructor) and learn how to do test drives.

The car is loaded full of toys (see sig) and I saved well over £2K on the new price plus a further £1.5K because Audi pre-owned it. 4K miles on the clock, it is 'as-new' inside given it sits in a 'Showroom' all day where the trainees have to 'sell' the car to the 'Customer' (instructor).

Oh and I'm happy to report there is no 6th gear hesitation issue as the car does not need one, the gearing is soo good, and it starts every time. Plus I pay no road tax neither. Awesome. :whistle2:
