Advice on Audi Navigation Plus....

Off-topic, apologies - but I thought I recognised the Avatar... Hello - I'm Andi, the admin from THE Corrado Forum... also, now an A3 owner :)

As for the iPod - you could go aftermarket. xCarLink kit would do it and preserve your CD changer (if you have one) or a Dension unit if you don't. Saves on a new glovebox and you could route it to the armrest instead, which is probably a better location.

ahhh hello. Kryten can be spotted spotted anywhere :)

That Xcarlink looks fantastic for what i need (displays song names on screen which is what i really want) and for a fraction of the cost of an AMI unit and new glovebox.

Only issue i can see is the Xcarlink is for the MK1 RNS-E (upto 2009) only, where as ive just brought the MK2 unit (2011). Not sure if this would still work or not =/

p.s. Your A3 may just be slightly faster than mine :)

Just emailed Xcarlink and thought i would share the results for anyone else interested in this

Judging from the product information here;
Audi iPod Interface for Audi RNS-E Navigation System :: AUDI :: XCarLink
am i correct in saying this unit will not be compatable with the MK2 RNS-e headunit with the media button? (2009 onwards)

The reply
We have not had any previous issues with the MK2 RNS-e head unit with the media button. The pinout for the CD changer port is still the same and the option for CD changer should appear in the media menu.

Just fitted my new head unit. Over the moon with it. Coded perfectly already so all i had to do is plug it in :) Phone, Ipod and Sat Nav all work perfectly :) Just need to but Xcarlink now to bring up the track names :)

Is it just me that prefers the non-glossy surround?? =/

How did you get it coded before install?

Just one thing - pretty sure you won't get track names with that interface - not like the AMI - it just emulates a 6-cd changer instead :-(

I didnt. Thats just how it came. Im going to get it hooked upto Vagcom though and customise it a little. One thing i hate is my trip computer has stopped working and the DIS just shows the speed im doing when i have a perfectly good speedo 10cm to the right of it..... really hoping i can turn that off and get my MPG readings back
here is where i brought from - Audi A3 S3 RS3 RNS-E LED B vers sat nav 2012 navigation DVD! RNSE-PU MEDIA GPS | eBay

Hi, would someone please tell me what is needed to pick up phone calls through the Audi navigation, does it have to be a RNS-e model with SDS? Do I need a multifunction steering wheel to do it?
I know I have to install a Bluetooth module, and also a microphone? Or is there a built in mic in the RNS-e??

BT unit would come with the all the kit needed, the rns has to be coded to use phones features, if you want sds on top of this then it has to be wired with the rns & coded accordingly in 3 modules & you need a specific mk2 sds unit of which I have available aswell as BT kits.

Thx Nigel, there you are;)
Well, I would prefer not to have the SDS unit, as it doesn't support my language, Danish :/
But would be nice with a ....193G model with the "best" display.

You could pm me a price for the RNS-e, Bluetooth kit, and perhaps a AMI if you have it.....?

Ye sorry man, net issues where I am atm have delayed allot of things, hopefully should be getting throygh the 80 pm's by end of day, poxy networks promise the earth & deliver sweet fa arrgghhhh

Will an AMI fit into this glovebox? My guessing is no. Can somebody post a pic of the glovebox I do need?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349900115872738

Nope.

I have a complete ami/glovebox bought for client available.

A3kent - do track names come up on your dash or dis? I've herd yes and no's with the ami (when an iPod is plugged in)

Playing music from my iPod I have track names displayed on the RNS-E and on the DIS.

Hi, im new to this Audi forum and have an S3, 58 plate with Bose, ipod dock and bluetooth in the car.
Im currently on the standard head unit, Audi concert.

How easy is it fit to remove this head unit and fit the Navigation system, just change plugs over? will my ipod dock, Bose and bluetooth have any issues with the navigation head unit?

Actually my ipod dock does not seem to work, i had the car in at Audi and they got an iphone 4s to work so not sure what im missing?
My newer ipod nano does not work either (Small square nano)

Cheers

It's a bit more involved than just fitting it but have a look at this... http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-sportback-8p-chassis/154975-retrofit-rnse-8p2-s3.html

There are loads of threads regarding the RNS-e retrofit.
