Hi people

I am currently running A3 2004 3 doors sport and I want to do sline single grill conversion. I really like the look of the rs3 grill and I have been searching on eBay for a similar one and I found this one.

RS HONEY-COM FRONT GRILLE FOR AUDI A3 8P 05-08 GRILL | eBay

It looks quite decent with black surrounding which is what I want as well. The question is will this definitely work with my conversion? Are they good quality? I have read seller descriptions and it says for Audi A3 8P 05-08. It sounds like it is going to fit and I wonder if anyone up here bough it before so you can tell me about your experience about it. Item is from Australia so postage is roughly about £100 and £104.57 for the grill.

Before I click buy it now,I would like to you guys and girls opinions please.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers

I came across this when i was going through my conversion, i was slightly tempted but didn't want to spend nearly £200 on something that is potentially scrap. I've heard a few stories about non OEM parts not fitting up etc. Fair play if you go for it, would look very nice.

If your willing to do a bit of digging there's a thread on here were somebody used an actual RS3 grill, it took some amount of work from what i remember but the result was very pleasing.

Hi

Thanks for your quick reply,I known that non OEM may not be the best for modding and quality but I cant really afford the actual rs3 grill as they are way too expensive. I have seen someone on this forum selling it for £500 and it was on an S3.

Hi H88, i have the rs3 grill on my s3 ( was selling but kept it) and its a straight swap mate. I know Audi sell them for around £700. The only hard part is getting the bumper of the car. So much torque screws and bolts :)

Lee, the RS3 grill wont fit your car mate as you are doing a 8P2 conversion not an 8P3 conversion.

there are a couple of ways of doing hte honeycombe grill though...

there is an fk grill available with the honeycombe design although it doesnt quite look that good.
or you can do what some have done and get the rs6 grill fitted into the surround of an A3 grill (they have done the S3 grill but you can be different) and run it like that.

Amar, Ash B are just a couple who have done it

if you want to do the RS6 grill way then i do have a grill available for sale right now!
hae a look on this thread: Classifieds: RS6 Grill

this is Amar's car with the RS6 grill fitted:

@ilim I saw your rs3 grill a week ago for sale on ebay, since then I have falled in love with it and this is why I want it on my A3. However but I cant afford at price the price your were selling mate, even though it was OEM product :))

@Ash thanks for all the informatios you have given me on the phone,I think I will just go for a normal A3 grill with black surrounding.

Like I said the FK grills will work but since you don't like it your only option is the rs6 grill like the Guys above but that's out of your budget. Il keep my eyes open for a honeycomb grill for you

So let me get this right, you can get a rs6 grill and fit it to the existing A3 grill? Mines a 56 plate sport and this is tempting. Is there much work to get the rs6 grill to fit? Does it mean cutting up the rs6 grill?

Yes rs6 grill is adapted to work on the a3/s3
It will work on your 56plate
amar06 can do the fitting for you if you send him the grill
and I have a rs6 grill for sale

Tempting but I don't think it would look right on the sport bumper. Looks good on the s line bumper

Hi, this is what I fitted to mine and is exactly the same as the Aussie one but a lot cheaper!
I paid £54.99 plus postage when he had about 12 in stock he seems to put the price up about £10 when down to a few.

AUDI A3 8P 2005-2008 BLACK HONEYCOMB DEBADGED SPORTS GRILL & BADGE HOLDER | eBay

The first time I saw them I hesitated about buying it and he sold out, but a month or so later they were back up.
might be worth contacting to see when next lot due in.
the quality is good, a nice matt black (you can paint gloss black or plasti-dip if you want) which matches the window trim etc here's a couple of links.

oh and ignore where he says it won't fit S-line bumpers it does!

you got a pic of it on yours?

i see the pic on the link you gave and i just dont like the plastic bit that can be seen at the top of the grill... ruins it.
I saw one of these in person and the honeycomb is too small and just didnt work for me.

do you mean where the top rows of honeycomb are filled in? If so it doesn't notice so much when its not painted.
I think if you fitted it without the Audi rings it would look too bare and then it would notice.
I will try to get some pics up later when its stopped raining!

I agree in the FK ones with the line going through the Audi rings the honeycomb looks too small but I thought this looks OK

I just check his ebay seller other items but I couldn't find it,he may be out of stock. The price you paid seem to be quite cheap compare to the Australian seller.

I thoiught at that price not such a grat loss if I didn't like it, also found a American ebayer selling it for £150 so yes for a change we get something cheaper!
my first time posting pics a couple of posts back did they appear ok as all I see is a blank post?

I just sent an email to the seller but still waiting for the reply too see if he can get anything in stock, otherwise I may go ahead and 150 lol. Yah I can see you got a blank post but that maybe was an error with the link to the pictures, just edit it and repost :))

I'm trying to upload with google drive I've edited the post above with the links but still can't see them!

strange when I'm logged in I just see a blank post where my pics should be and the same where you (Ash) have replied with quote, but if I view not logged on I can see my pics in your post Ash but on mine they are just white squares with a red X

used photobucket much easier

That is nice mate,I really like it.the seller just got back to me,he won't get anything until 8-10 weeks. I can't really wait, just want to get it done during summer.i may have to buy from America lol.

have you tried amazon? I just bought one off there on friday, havent been home yet to see it/to fit it yet though :(

Thanks, that's a shame it's going to be so long. I looked at the box it came in and there was no clue as to where it originally comes from.
I couldn't really justify spending nearly £200 on a OEM optics grill which you might as well get for that money, with the money saved I got some MY09 rear lights!

what I was going to do was spray my original grill with plasti-dip, really easy to do no primer and if you don't like it just peel it off.
Do that until he gets some more in?

i would like this done for my a3,they all look good, but want it like that matt andrews car :)

If you want his look then take my rs6 grill, it's new and unused
link has been posted earlier or look in the link in my sig for items for sale

Guys, for the RS3 grill into an 8P1 (I think?), is it just a simple swap? No cutting etc involved?

I have tried searching for an install guide but unable to find one!

Thanks.

Yes I thought so - just deleted my last post as that was a stupid stupid question to ask....my bad!

Any ideas where to buy apart from direct to Audi? What sort of money are we talking for one of these?

Just been quoted £599.16 inc vat from Harrogate.

With the A6 mod you need to marry an A3 8P frame to the mesh of an cheep Ebay A6 all mesh grill using an epoxy and then either plastidip or paint it when finished. Here's a couple picts of my Left hand drive.

then and now
