Good evening guys.
Im new to the site and only had my a3 1.8t agu for 2 months love the car massive improvement to my rover 200 1.1 :)).
Ive got a problem tho with my coolant as keep having to top it up as it gets to minimal and it flashes on the dash.
I cant see any coolant leaks on the ground so im abit confused about it. All im doing is putting water in it at the moment as it would cost me a fortune in coolant every 2 weeks.
Can any one shed any light on this please.
Thank you in advance.
Grant

i would stop putting water in it as it will cost you more in the long run? are you sure you cant see any coolant in the engine bay at all maybe near the gearbox ... undertray or near the bumper they are good spots to look for.

G12 coolant is easy to spot when it leaks as stuff turns pink... if all you are doing is refilling with water then its not gonna be as easy and you will end up damaging the engine as G12 prevents corrosion..

Basically... if you aren't losing it from a hose or something then its either the headgasket or a cracked head...

A leak like that should be obvious tbh if its external especially when hot... a decent garage should be able to do a hydro carbon test and pressure test for you... I would get that done sooner rather than later...

Thanks for the response.
Where can i get this g12 coolant from and would it be ok to put it straight into the bottle.
Im hoping its a split hose as hgf or cracked head sounds very expensive to fix but i dont think
I can see a leak.
Will have to try and properly see
Thank you again

G12 can be bought from places like GSF, TPS and dealerships generally... I guess halfrauds would have similar but never tried to buy any from there...

Head gasket repair is £650 on a3 1.8 t ! S3 would be more so pray it isn't! lol

Cheers for the heads up man. Im hoping it isnt too got no mayo on the oil cap but so etimes that doesn't matter.
Wierd thing is i had a full service just over a month ago and all was fine apart from slight oil leak from rocker cover gasket.
Having said that he did say my sparks were slightly white on the tips but he said that could be not enough fuel going through
Which i need a power run to find out my fueling.
Thanks grant

I think block test is about £30 at most Indy garages. Would tell you if bread basket has gone. Yeh mine has a minor leak from rocker gasket it adds character lol!
