Should I forward park on my drive? Headlights and front bumper nearly touching the living room wall...

OR

Do I reverse park in? With exhaust and back bumper to my living room?

I've been burgled over night.. I am guessing they were looking for keys, cash, ID documents etc. thank fully its all kept in a safe location... and no one was hurt... the forensics were around this morning and there are no signs of forced entry so these people must be experts... some fingerprints found... that's about it and the rest we shall see.

They only managed to clear the storm porch because the door behind it has an ASSA lock and is pretty secure..

I'm guessing it was a letter box, mirror and tool job.

I've got a horrible feeling the S3 is next and that was probably why they did try to break in... only brought this new s3 a few days ago but I'm thinking of parking it in my friends garage at night now.

Sorry to hear about the burglary, I would just install a security post on the drive, that would put them off

thanks man feel so violated and like i could rip someones head off if i see them wearing my coat(s)... the drive is too short for a security post... we gave up 50cm of the drive last year to the council (they paid for it) because long story short the neighbour next door needs extra space to get in and out of a wheel chair ramp etc.

Or get a wheel clamp, less hassle than installing a security post but just as visible. I've actually got a disklock for my S4 as another visible deterent.

Another great deterent is a fake (or if you can afford it) real CCTV camera overlooking your drive. If you don't have a burgler alarm, get one if you can afford it, but if not, get a fake bell box for the outside of the house, nobody would know the difference.

After visible deterents, get a Revo remap and make a habit of leaving it in anti theft mode so even if they get the keys they can't get it away, just learn to hide the box away from your keys. There are also those blackjack devices but i don't know much about them.

I had my S3 stolen from drive, they seem to be quite popular target, very annoying but i'm sure you can protect yourself, make it seem like its too hard a job with too much risk and you should be safe.

APR valet mode here... with the boost set to 0 the car hardly makes it past 40mph... turn it off and on via the cruise control... did think about the revo at the time but thought... do I really want thieves in my house for longer if the car won't start? Did have a BMW 330ci with blackjaxx some years ago... worked a treat.. the theives made off with it... about 3 miles later it starts horning, flashing the lights and pulsing down the ignition... and they were caught.

Have been meaning to look into the camera... will do now... have a DVD RW recorder knocking about anyway could just reset each night... wouldnt made skipping through it in the eve to check it either... going to look into this and fit one on the weekend no doubt!

If you want you can still get the blackjaxx systems from cliffords but its not so common as it used to annoy so many people. I used to have it on my Focus and to be honest i loved it just as it gave me peace of mind

get yourself one of these!
Digzz on the forum here has one on his house and after seeing how it works i am getting 2 for my house!

park it in forwards with full lock on the steering and in gear, this is the hardest it can be to spec or flat lift, you say you can't fit a drive way post, well if 2 one at either side so you can't open the doors!

How does he get out Ste?

Get insurance and forget about it.

If someone is willing to break into your house, while your in, to get your keys, then your better off handing them over

Install a secret 'kill switch' inside the car. Worked a treat in my 205 GTi....That should fool these toe rags.

i was burgled a few years back lost alot, got a pay out from insurance but still doesn't change the feeling of knowing somones been walking around your house uninvited while your in... i now keep a 'defensive' tool close had because if i ever heard anyone in my house uninvited i would go ape S***.

as for your car.... take a trip to halfrods/argos, you can buy wheel clamps steering wheel locks and gearstick locks...yes it might take you five minuets every journey and no it might not stop them stealing your car but it will put people off at first glance and it will slow anyone down trying to steal the car and it might just be that few minuets that makes you keep your car.

hope you and your family get things sorted and feel safe again.

If someone is willing to break in while your in the house, to get your keys, I doubt they'll be too worried about having bollards in front of it.

maybe... but you need multiple layers of security, these peeps with night time breakins get an alarm ***, take the keys upstairs and get a decient door between the bedrooms and downstairs

Returning to the original question - Reverse in or nose-in:

Reversing up to a wall will build up a soot-mark. -If that's going to be a problem, maybe nose-in.

Nose-in leaves the tail vulnerable to being opened. -If that's a problem reverse-in, and maybe erect some sort of 'shield' to take the brunt of any soot-mark?

No, leave the keys at the door. That way your not on tomorrow's news because they killed you to take your car.
I love my car but strangely enough I love my family a lot more. The kinda person who breaks in while ur in isn't just an amateur opportunist who's going to be put off

If you have that attitude you may as well leave the keys in the car!

agreed. every break in car thief would love it if everyone was like vroomtish.

put the car in 6th gear and disconnect the gear cable under the bonnet??

fit a line lock under the bonnet in the clutch hydraulic line??

Locking the front door is the first port of call! 80-90% of all the cars stolen with keys from burglaries are because the front door wasn't double locked. This allows entry in seconds using a Z bar through the letterbox. Most crims will actively avoid confrontation and are looking for a quick theft

fishing wire attached to a wheel or axle, or a pulley going across the front gate at shin height, trail it through the letter box, up the stairs and wrap it around your bed side lamp, or the wife's toe? ;)

You'll soon know if someones about...first the trip wire will cause the lamp to fall or when the car starts to move the lamp will wander off down the stairs....

oh and keep the AK 47 handy, so you can escort them to the basement...

magic.

in all seriousness though.

the trip wire idea might be pretty good...most criminals won't think of it i doubt and not see it at night.

Just gives the heads up to the victim that something's going down!

Just keep a slugger bat under the bed leave the door open and wait up all night I'm sure theyl be back. I wouldn't think twice about attacking a stranger in my own home. Not a violent person but of people take liberties and are willing to Hurt you...

i prefer a set of infrared break beams, which when broken send me a txt so i can monitor the cctv, i can then take the required action

gun laws are too tight in this country...

the C U Next Tuesday's made off with a toyota rav4 last night.. they came back and they made it look so easy. One guy was under the rear wheel arch for a few minutes and the next thing you know, hazzard lights flashing and alarm silenced they were gone.. it took all of 3 minutes. The police gave chase.. they pulled their finger out this time.. they were here in minutes. Gave them the details and I hope they catch the scum.

These crims just have no idea or dont give a toss whos life they fk up. the rav4 belongs to a disabled neighbour and her mum passed last week to cancer.. she had it adapted with special controls and it cost her a fortune.. its just a kick in the teeth. Cant have good sh1t these days cos people are always trying to take your sh1t.

cheeky buggers!

well yeah proper infrared laser etc beams would suffice...but pretty sure the fish wire attatched to a bell or something would be ideal and affordable.

Worth a try I think

if you can afford £10k+ of audi you can afford £200 on a basic house alarm

round here house alarms go off sometimes and no one gives a toss.. i suppose the only one worth having is the one connected to the police and may be the zone could be set at night to monitor certain parts of the house..

as for affording cars... hey it could be finance.. it may have been a present.. or it may be someone elses car..

as precaution ive been theif proofing the yard... i installed a rock door with assa maxi cliq locks.. and a second rock door..
a vulnerability i also found after speaking with the police is that if you have a patio door and it can be lifted off the track by more than 1/4" then install a plate or piece of wood at the top track to stop the lift!

these upvc doors are a load of bull.. get yourself a rock door or high security door.
anyhow.. threads gone off tangent..

i found out who these buggers are!! i know where on of them lives...

ps installed the post on driver side.. good idea! so done that.
