Anyone used Foliatec wheel film on their wheels?

As some of you might know I picked up a set of 4 Team Dynamic Imola wheels for £80. The wheels are heavily curbed but fine to use and are quite light so I'll be using them as track wheels. As the wheels only cost £80 I don't want to spend a fortune on refurbing them, especially if they will only be used on track.

My research for a cheap refurb had led me to this:

I can sand down the wheels, fill the curb marks with liquid metal, re sand and get the face of the wheels as flat and smooth as possible, then cover in Foliatec.

For £50 you get 2 cans which is meant to be enough for all 4 wheels so I'm thinking of giving it a go.

Anyone ever used this product or similar?

That stuff is for 'tarts' that wanna change the wheel colour every 5 mins without damaging the original finish isn't it? seems a bit pointless on yours as you may as well just paint them the colour you want...

Its like 'make up' for wheels...

Granted not the funkiest colour but cheap enough... its the same stuff I used to paint my cam cover etc...

Where's your spirit for embracing new things? This stuff requires a lot less preparation then normal wheel paint and I cant be bothered to spend hours sanding and painting.

It's worth a go for £50 and if it's no good it's no big loss. Just wondered if anyone had used it before and whether it would be durable enough as a permanent solution.

For £42 you can get 933ml of Plasti-dip spray tins.
Chuck some plasti-dip primer on it and its 100% fixed.
Add some glossifyer and its glossy.

Done!!

Only issue I have Scott is I want to do this all with spray cans and not a proper spray gun. Plastidip requires a gun if I want fancy colours.

Does the primer from plastidip come in spray form? Might be worth using that with the green foliatec and then some plastidip glossyfier to do a half decent job.

Just get the brushes and rollers out, then bosh some nicely colour gloss paint on them. Piece of cake

You tip the paint, primer or what ever, in to the glass container, attach it to the spray head and away you go.

And the cost will be going up past the £50 for the 2 tins.

This stuff looks interesting I have a spare set of wheels that am planing on using for the track so might just give this stuff ago.

If they`re track wheels just give them a quick sanding, to hell with going OTT on the curbing, just smooth them out a touch then just bang some primer on and paint them. Doesnt matter if the finish if perfect if you`re just smashing it round a track for the day then taking them off again. Primer and laquer is cheap as on ebay and then just get someone with a Halfords trade card and buy the paint. Cost less than £50 and extra ontop for buying chemical metal. If the graffiti paint that i used to spray my wheels with was any good i`d suggest that but it was pretty poor and chips away so easily.

Do you know someone with a Halfords trade card?

I will pop to Halfords soon to see what they have in their paint range and price it up. If its cheapish I might go for that option. There are some places that will do a refurb and powder coat for £50 a wheel, so if the price of a DIY refurb comes to over £100 I might as well fork out the extra £100 to get them done properly.

Sadly not lol. I need to redo my wheels to be fair so could do with finding one myself lol.

Rimtec in MK do 50 a wheel and they`re pretty good. Know a few people that have been there. Refurbed a mates Corsa Nurburg wheels and they looked as good as they did from the factory.

Well maybe we could send both sets of wheels and ask for a cash discount

I want to get the tyres off the rims of mine next week and have a real good look at them. Also will do a trial fit this weekend to see if they clear my Brembos without a spacer.

Lol would have to be a big discount, got a tab at work that needs paying off haha. Plus it means my car would be off the road as i dont have any other wheels that clear the brakes lol.

lol Pristine are more but they do an exchange so you`re car is never off the road. They`ll just refurb the same wheels that they have in stock and just swap when its done. Genuine wheels anyway.
