Hi,

i`ve just picked up a set of genuine Audi roof bars for a 1998 A4 Avant - has anyone got instructions on how to fit them or can anyone point me in the right direction please?

thanks!

When you say roof bars, you mean this sort of roof bars?
Not the rails, the black bars that the ally bars are bolted on to.

Hi, yep -but the origional Audi ones, i`ve got the roof bars and the strange tool that comes with them but no fitting instructions . . .

not yet, i`ll stick some pics up when i fit them, i think i saw a picture of them on here somewhere though

i can`t see the pictures but that certainly sounds like them yes

Going by the pictures, It looks like you pull the end out and tighten them up.
This will pull in the back foot and clamp them together.
Bit like mine.

Unless the ends come off to expose a slot where you put that strange tool and do the same thing.

i must admit i thought it would be something like that but that strange tool has thrown me a bit . . .

hopefully someone will have instructions, really don`t want to find out i put them on wrong while half way to Devon in a couple of weeks

I can't post any pics as I'm on holiday and the instructions are at home....
Suffice to say the cross-bars are meant to be installed on the car at the points located by the 2 impressed dots on the roof rails bolted to the car roof and the funny tool-thing is just an allen-key with a built-in pointer that enables you to tighten up the cross bars to the correct degree of torque , no more and no less.........
The end caps of the cross-bars need to be off to torque them up correctly, so hopefully you'll have the set of keys that come with each set of bars?.........

Is it a long Allen key with a T-handle and some little plastic thing in the end that moved when you reached the 4nm torque or what ever it is?

Ditto, cheers nessy. Thought the saloon fixes using a TX40 on each end to clamp :) Sussed it in the end.
