Whenever I go over a manhole cover the rear end of my car always seems to aggressively twitch/skit (don't really know the word for it haha)

Ive always thought this was because it was 4WD but a passenger today reckons it was because my tyres are worn. My tyres are only a couple of months old so can't be this.

Just wondered if this is normal to everyone else? I will be honest and I am running budget tyres atm. Could that be it?

Cheers

Check the inner part of the tread

When I read the thread title I thought the worst for a second dude lol. When I had 19s on my old car I had budget tyres real sticky in the dry but in the wet lethal, I could be driving round an island and the front would feel like it was slipping then the back would just go, and that would only be at about 20mph. Soon got rid of them and went for some 18s and better tyres. On my S3 I have Continental Conti sport 3s on 17s and there amazing wet or dry, the one thing I wont skimp on now is tyres as there the most important part of the car between you and the tarmac.

Most if not all budget tyres are s**** in the wet or damp road i remeber my 80 i had 17s on with fedral 199 tyres and it was baaaaad clios were going round corners in the wet faster tan me lol i need 2 new front tyres now got snow tyres on which also useless in the wet went my local tyre yard and all he got with good tred and all snows or winter so still on the hunt i go with michelin hp all the way or uniroyal rainsports :icon_thumright:

Ah thanks very much for the replies!!

Definitely going to go for better tyres when these ones are worn out.

The above info has made me glad I'm having the following work done soon:

Having coilovers fitted next week, maybe week after. With that I'm having adjustable rear tie arms fitted and any bushes that need replacing I'm going to have power flex bushes fitted.

Fingers crossed that will stop/reduce the crazy skidding sensation when going over a manhole cover.

Thanks very much for your replies!
