I've just fitted some new Alloygators rim protectors to the nearside wheels of my S3 - i.e. the ones that can get kerbed by my wife when parking! I've been using them for about a year, during which time they've saved me several wheel refurbs.

I fitted silver ones this time, which look slightly less obvious to my eye than the black ones fitted previously. Good fitting is key, as I found out when fitting my first set - one of them worked its way off the rim after a few weeks.

These are really good so long as you know they're in right! Had a friend that had them installed by a garage and when he went on a dyno one came off at speed! Meant a new wing mirror, front quarter panel and repairs to the door...

That said, I've never heard of that happening to anyone else so I'm assuming it was incorrect fitting!

Where did you have them fitted ? Are there any guarantees that it won't come off from the people that fitted them ?

Also do they have a max speed for ...like a Upto speed where you can only travel at a certain speed ?

I'm seriously considering these but I don't won't anything happening like it coming off at top speed and it flying off and damaging paint work like if has happened to a couple of people on here on ASN.

I really could do with these thou ......as I have curbs on my drive and I have to reverse every time when I'm coming into my drive to get a straight line.

I would like to know how you get on with these ........."with it not coming off"

I've always fitted them myself and changed them for new ones when I have new tyres.

As I say, I have had one come off when I hadn't bashed the Alloygator in sufficiently; it happened at about 30mph and thankfully was just one of the ends working loose and flapping against the wheel arch guard. There are no guarantees that they won't come off or damage your car, but it's basically your own fault for not fitting them correctly if so!

You have to weigh that up against the cost and hassle of refubing wheels every so often.

You need a trolley jack, mallet and something (like garden secteurs) to cut the Alloygator down to the correct size.

Glad to hear it didn't damage anything when it came off then! I've been thinking about putting these on my A4 when it arrives but I'm just worried that I won't do it quite right and it'll end up causing damage and be more trouble than it's worth...

Maybe just have to be extra careful around the curbs...

If it were just me driving it, I wouldn't fit them. Because I share my S3 with my wife and two little kids, I have a choice to either:

a) get a car I don't care about
b) get I car I like a lot and just keep on top of the inevitable minor wear associated with family use

There's no point in us having more than one car at the moment as we only do 8-10k miles a year (including business miles!). In that context, it's worth fitting some Alloygators.

Not really as these are a really hard plastic rather than the rubber of a tyre...

There is something about Brilliant Red 8P S3s that really tickle my toggle! Great idea too, last saw these a few years ago under a different name and they were a bit more clumsy-looking back then! Definitely prefer the new ones mate, almost invisible!
