The light doesn't work in my 05 sportback glovebox. Can anyone tell me how to get the cover off so I can change the bulb and also is there a white led version of this bulb I can pick up somewhere? Thanks

If the light's out then there's a chance the plastic arm with piston that dampens the opening of the glove compartment broke. you can see whether it's the case when you pop the plastic side cover off. It's a common fault.

To replace the bulb you may have to remove the glovebox - a few screws 1 on the side, 3 on top edge, 1 inside 2 or 3 underneath.

And yes, there is a LED bulb you can get from tr8ups on this forum.

push a small flathead screwdriver into the left side of the light housing from inside the glovebox and prise out the light. then just change over the bulbs... again contact trups for any LED bulbs

Lamp just prises out with a small screwdriver - and see T8ups for LED....

My lamp was stuck, could not prise it out for nothing!

i can supply you a glove box LED for your lamp, its £3.50 and £1.60 posted 2nd class recorded.

a boot bulb which uses the same holder will be £7.

if bought combined the kit is £8.50 which makes you save £2.

check the bulb 1st, i had a car come in last week and the bulb was gone. brightened it up with a LED.

Trups

I have the same problem no light up in the glove box, and I was told by ash that the arm was broken.

yh Lee you will need that arm a few posts up as yours is snapped. or you could just try and glue it back together which is what some on here have done in the past.
you will probably also need a new bulb as yours would have burnt out from being on for so long, just get the LED bulb off trups there.

Ok I've checked the side of the glovebox and that arm thing is snapped as someone suggested. Is it really £19 to replace it? And does anyone have a part number and I will check?

Part number

Edit - part number will also be shown on the broken arm as a check !

It's a very easy repair. All you need is some super glue to stick the two broken parts together, epoxy resin around the glued place to reinforce it and a bit of lubricant to ease the movement of the piston.
You have to remove the glovebox, but it's a 5min job.

You cant replace the arm as such as its part of the lid & audi have stopped supplying the lid seperately, so its £200 for new GB or repair it as mentioned already, as I've done numerous times with superglue 2 parts together to gain position & use a resin or epoxy to stead fast, also stick some grease inside the brake element so it doesnt happen again.

I have a few glovebox's for sale if anyone wants one.

i have seen a new lid for sale, so would this mean that the piston would be attached to that?

Audi dont sell new ones, so assume its on ebay & no, the brake element is not part of lid, you can buy the brake element still if thats whats broken, but its usually the arm that goes, just repair it.

yes sorry the brake uint is fine on the car, its jus the arm part has broken on the lid, but the problem is a part of the arm is missing so if i do glue it then its too short and the glove box will not open fully.

will the arm part be attached to a new lid?

Yes the arm is part of the lid, but tbh you will have the same issue with new lid if you dont lube the brake element, how much is the lid?

Just put this on your thread, but I see it has migrated over here.....

I have a full glovebox with broken hinges, what bits do you need?
I have the shock absorbor thing too, but it has snapped at the point it connects to the lid.
Any use to you?

Are you sure the arm on yours hasn't just retreated back into the housing, can you pull it out?

its £35 with postage, do you know what the part number is for a lid for right hand drive in light grey colour?

yes i have pulled it all the way and it too short, and the crack on the lid side and the remainder of the arm does not look light it lines up so I'm guessing its missing a bit in-between

This is what ive got, if you need any bits let me know.

thanks mate, i will order the lid in a few days time but i think i will need the little pin that goes through the arms and the brake thing

I got a new lid from Lincoln Audi and it didn't come with the brake assembly that you need, that only comes if you order the full glovebox.

My glovebox lid part number
8P2 857 124 A EC3
Light platinum/grey.

I have to say ETKA has changed recently then as I went in recently & lid could not be bought seperately anymore although I knew before it could, now I checked again & it must have been edited on latest updates as shows the lid available again seperately, poxy system!!!!

I wouldn't need the brake assembly, i just need the arm that connects to the brake assembly, it should be part of the lid.
Did you get this on your new lid?

didn't mean that part, i have that already, i need the arm that is part of the lid which connects to the damper, this is the part that usually breaks.

did u get this as part of your lid and how much did this cost you?

I haven't replaced my lid - I just looked this up for you.

It sounds like you will need to buy the whole lid or do the repair that is described.

thanks looking it up mate, yes i will be needing a new lid but the one on ebay was slightly a different shade of grey, so ill keep a look out on ebay or if it takes too long ill be buying it from the dealer directly :/

can anyone suggest what to use to lubricate for the brake assembly?
