I am thinking of taking my A6 from 140 to 170 bhp. What kind of 0-62 times should I expect? I think it currently stands at around 10.3 secs? Can anyone give me a rough estimate how much it would cost to get it done. I am based in Berkshire/Buckinghamshire.

Thanks

D

Hi, not too sure about times, I'm guessing you have a 2.0 TDI, How do you intend to tune it? Remap?
Don't be conned by those ebay £40 boxes, all it will do is smoke more. PM me, I can remap most cars with waranty.

Thanks Wes.

I am just sounding people out, to be honest. I just got the car, and would like to hear from people who have actually had the process done; to see whether it is a worthwhie process or not...

I have a 2.5 tdi 155 bhp, remapped to about 200, very responsive and smooth. Mapped by Viezu.com
Cheers

Thanks Wes.

I have sent them an enquiry form today.

Will let u how I get on.

Thanks for your help

If you's is a 140 Bhp i would leave it alone, the turbo is too small and the turbine shatters with even the smallest boost spikes. If you want to do it properly then get yourself a BV43 turbocharger and keep the torque low to minimise strain on the clutch an flywheel. The bv43 is good for 200 bhp but your nozzles might not flow enough diesel for that unless the tuner uses stupidly advanced duration in the tune which will result in smoke ! Also some 140 and all 170Bhp had a particulate filter, that will need removing in order to gain much... On the stock turbo a mild increase of 15-20 Bhp is ok as ling as the tune does not spike. Don't go chasing numbers, go for drive-ability and reliability.
Drove wesmaster's car and it's a smooth tune however the b6 163Bhp i have with a steinbauer tuning box is very raw and torquey, just the way i like it !

Hi guys,

After reading your contrasting articles, I have decided to shelf the tuning/mapping! It seems the returns are negligible + there are inherent dangers. What really swayed the decision, was webmaster's observation that his 2.5 170 bhp needed to be tuned to 200, for his satisfaction; so going from 140 to 170 seems to be a job half done; leaving to dissatisfaction later on.

Thanks for your inputs on this thread. Now all I need is to get my MMI 2g software upgraded to 2012, and possibly buy some brembo disc callipers....LOL

I am a total newbie...sorry

Hi,

I recently did my 2.0 TDI BRE Engine to 183 BHP and its been good for a few thousand miles. I note the turbo comments and agree it is tiny, adamms you mention bv43, is there a specific one I should look at?

Hi

Can you please tell me what kind of performance benefits you got achieved with your tuning? I need to speak to someone who has actually had this done, to see if it is worth it or not.....If you can send me a private message, I will be happy to call you back or email you.

Thanks

Hi,

Sure, I saw a significant increase in torque and more responsiveness from the car. It has more pull, keeps on pulling on the motorway and is generally smoother. I had an erratic idle before and this has gone and it's generally more fun to drive. The downsides are that it is more sooty (still passed an MOT), if I boot it everywhere then the consumption suffers more than before but on a normal drive it's very similar to before if not slightly better.

I personally am very happy with it.

Thanks for that.

Final question, would you do it again, weighing up all the pros and cons, now?

Cheers

Yes definitely. As I mentioned the car is more fun to drive now and has the power the size of the car deserves. I am going through front tyres a little quicker but I am sure if I was more conservative with my driving I wouldn't notice any difference!

The trouble is I now want a bigger turbo for more power!!

Boss,

What would be a ballpark figure to go from 140 to 170, without too much 'soot'..LOL?

It cost me £250 at Avon Tuning and took about three hours as he had to do a BDM (Back Door Module) overwrite of my ECU as the OBD port had protection built in and wouldn't allow it the conventional way. He had new shear-bolts when rebuilding so if I took it to Audi they would be none the wiser that the ECU has a different map based on visual inspection.
