Saw a thread about flyeye or what ever its called for lights and was thinking about it.
Chatting to a mate, he offered to attempt to make me some. couple of days later some samples turned up.

Here's some pics the samples fitted.

I did try doing the rear but its to hard to wrap it around the curves.
Don't look to bad though. Looks awful when you get up close though.

IMO the headlamps are bad enough without blocking half the light from reaching the road.

If you want that look, take the lamps apart and paint all the excess chrome inside black.

Put them in the oven, melt the glue and pull apart?

It was just a random thought and something I wanted to try.
We'll see what happens at night.

they are a complete **** to take apart, but it is doable, i did it on my old FWD A4, pics are around somewhere. Also did the PFL lights on the Shed, though the lenses on those are ruined which makes them look pretty ****.

sod that.
I'll stick with sticking stuff on the lenses. lol

I painted the inners on my PFL lights. Easy as you only have to remove the metal clips and the light just pulls apart. Dunno about FL lights though?

yeh the glue on PFL's is sort of sticky/squidgey, the FL stuff is like concrete. Lots of prizing and bending required.

Theres a guide on B6 headlamps, thats pretty similar to the FL b5's, :: a4mods.com :: - The Premiere Audi A4 Modification Guide and Pictures Library

Erm....sod that.
Thanks for the link though :)

As a lighting engineer I would have to agree with aragorn. Looks ok but I can promise it will be detrimental to the light output

I wonder by how much.

looking at it, by about 50% :p

AFAIK flyeyes have much more hole and much less plastic.

The idea of sticking anything onto the headlight thats going to reduce the light output seems fairly horrible to me, plus i'm pretty sure they included something in the new MOT rules about it as well. This is why i painted mine, because i like the look and dislike the chrome, but wanted minimal impact on the light.

i think these are the best option for people looking for dark headlights.

they are Depo units, so for the best light output you will need to swap your projector units over from the standard lights to these, but they do look the part.

99-01 AUDI A4/S4 B5 1-PIECE BLACK ECODE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS | eBay

Talking to a lamp manufacturer I deal with where they add the anti vandal clear toughened glass cover, that drops the lightoutput by abbout 5%

I got half way home last night, it got dark and I had to turn round and head back to my dads cause the lights was crap.
Yellow and no light out put really.

O well, it was a fun little play while it lasted.

On to other ideas. :)
