When turning right from a stand still I get a sort of a clunking/clicking sound from the front that disappears soon as I straighten up.

As I right in thinking its a CV joint?

were they stripped and cleaned thoroughly, or bodged back together with a new boot and a squirt of grease?

I think i have a pair of standard FWD driveshafts in the garage, i could bring them to GTI if you want?

No idea mate. I/we said they was broken, I gave them new and they replaced.
I trust the garage that did the job but I doubt they did what you did.

If you could mate.

I need to look in to how to replace theses and order some more CV boots.
Any recommendations on CV boots?

aye they are, though i dont know if the inners will fit your autobox, need to check on etka.

At least you should be able to swap over the outer CV's

ok cool.
let me know.

If they do fit, I'm thinking of cleaning the ones from your, replacing the boots so they are ready to just bolt straight on with no messing around.
I hope, thats the idea.

yeh just looked, the outers are common, but the inners are specific to diesel automatics.

So you'll need to whip the driveshaft off the CV (i can do that if you want?) and then clean out the CV, reassemble with new grease, and install onto your shaft with a fresh boot.

ahh right.
Ok, strip the CV off, shove it in some paper and bag and more paper and more bags (fkn hate the grease) and I'll do it one weekend.

Thanks mate.

We'll sort payment out at Inters? :)

aye, you can buy me a burger or something :p

As you may have noticed i've STILL not sorted out that stuff, so i'll bring it with me to GTI as well!

if the CV was run with no grease for a while before the boot was changed no amount of stripping cleaning regreasing etc will stop it knocking. its fecked!

I know as I have a knicky knocky one that I left too long before sorting
